How weird is this???

So Im hunting for figures yesterday evening on the way home. Im looking for wreck-gar so Im only stoping by rite aid, walgreens, t.j.max etc. I walk into my fourth drug store with deminished hopes since I havent found a figure I need retail in a long while.
I walk over to the toy section and no transformers. What a shock. Wait tho!....I see a single transformer under barbie on the bottom shelf. I remove barbie and staring me in the face is a universe sun streaker!
To make things infinitly cooler, He was only nine dollars as rite aid was having a sale.
Is this as rare a find as I think it is? I have only been collecting for about four months now, so I dont know how long gone the universe line is. I do know It is now the generations line. Also, the two bots being showcased on back of the card as " Also look for theese guys! each sold seperately." were prowl and tankor. I know I havnt seen either of those or sun streaker on pegs since Ive been collecting.
I looked him up on ebay and he goes for between 30 and 80 dollars so he cant be readily available in stores.
Anyhow I was wondering just how lucky I was to find this figure laying in a bin at rite aid?
Thanks,
Scott :CON:

Cool, nice find! That figure hasn't been available for years (I bought Prowl when he was out, and that was a long time ago!) Now that I've got the Generations Red Alert (same mold as Streaker) I have a newfound respect for that toy and would have bought it on sight. Especially for that price!

Yeah I know LOL!. I cant decide wether or not making red and streakers torso reversable was clever or cheap. At any rate It was awesome to find that figure for that price. Im wondering why it was there though? Id guess it was found hidden, or lost in the back for some time and I was fortunate enough to walk into the store at the perfect moment to grab him. Seeing as how that is a collector heavy area (as are all areas in lou) I was very lucky to happen upon him.
About time to! I never have any luck! LOL.
Listen. Do you know how many other figures, if any use that mold? Im wondering because sun streaker was made before red Alert(right?) but you can clearly see where they were sure to leave a spot on streakers back to bear the autobots insignia. (Which ofcourse they used when they made red alert)
Piont being that if there are no other bots that use that mold then hasbro must have known they were going to use that mold for red and so thats why they left the spot for the autobot symbol on streakers back.
Nothing important I guess. Just wondering If hasbro was thinking that far ahead or not.
Thanx.

That's a pretty nice find! I have most of the figures I want from Unvierse, but I still need Ratchet, Sideswipe, and Galvatron (I know, most people say he sucks, but I really want the character).

They built the mold as reversible to accomodate both Sideswipe (red lamborgini) and Sunstreaker, who in the original G1 toys were both lamborginis but had different molds and transformations. This way they could get both from one toy.

Since G1 Red Alert was just a repaint of the Sunstreaker mold, Generations Red Alert follows suit.

So this mold has the three main figures that were available at retail: Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, and Red Alert, plus two exclusives that I am aware of, the most interesting being Punch/Counterpunch, the Autobot spy who could disguise himself as a Decepticon - hence the two robot modes; one for Punch, one for Counterpunch. So for that toy, the versitility of this mold is truly used to the fullest extent!

That's a lucky find. It's hard to grab one on eBay under $40 anymore.

I really do like that mold. I have fond memories of transforming him for the first time and turning the roof sectiion for the rising head reveal. I was very impressed and found it quite fitting for a figure named Sunstreaker. To me it was a rising sun sort of concept that first popped into my mind when i saw it.

That's a good score.

It's been about 5 years since the classics line, and, I beleive, 3 years since the Universe Line? I didn't collect much from that line. Anyway, yes, that's a lucky find. Even I'm impressed, I wasn't lucky enough to find Sunstreaker or Sideswipe at all when those lines were out :APPLAUSE:

Not really surprised, the Rite Aid around here still has Universe Tankor priced at $18.99.

They were not rare figures during their retail release.

Now, of course, finding one is quite a good find!

Yeah Classics sunstreaker is very rare.

My guess is Some TF fan or customer returned Classics Sunstreaker. due to cash problems or spring cleaning. he most likely got store credit & no cash.

Perfectly aware, as I admire them quite often. But I wanted a complete group shot of that mold, and the galleries here do not yet feature G2 Sideswipe. ;)

Oh man. I just saw what I suppose was the henkei verson of red alert and he not only has the more accurate paint job, but sports the shoulder mounted cannon as well!
I can live with the paint change. That isnt serious at all. Its the lack of the annon that really smarts. Its reds trade mark look ya know?
Why do the easterners get all the good paint apps and propper weapons.
Im still smarting over the white astrotrain. Japan has the accurate and cooler looking grey and purple and were stuck with white. If it aint grey it just aint astrotrain.
Matter of fact I think Im gonna go bid on a henkei astrotrain. Maybe my wife can win me one for 40 dollars or so. :)

The shoulder cannon is merely his gun plugged into the hole in one of the shoulder hinges. All versions have it, including sunstreaker.

Yep, and renderform.com recently released an even more accurate shoulder cannon and a red head to please us here in the West.
