Help for a relatively new Transfan.

Okay, so I've been a Transfan since I was about four. (I still have fond memories of Energon and Cybertron) However, I never really collected the toys.
But then I saw some of the DotM stuff, and it really got me interested in TF again.
I don't want heaps and heaps of characters, mainly just the memorable ones. (Optimus, Megatron, Bumblebee, Ironhide etc.) I thought it'd be best to start with Prime himself - but there are so many lines and scales, it's making my brain hurt trying to pick the best one!
I'm pretty set on the Voyager DotM Prime - but does anyone know any better alternatives to this? Hopefully within a similar price range?
Thanks,

The Prime Guy

Well, the two best Movie-verse Optimus Prime figures out to date were last film's Battle Blades voyager Optimus Prime (FAR more screen accurate), and ROTF Buster Prime (Leader Class).

As for other lines, my PERSONAL reccomendations are (for Prime at least):

Leader Class:
Cybertron (aka Galaxy Force in Japan) Optimus Prime, in any paint scheme. Nods to Powermaster Prime, Star Convoy, and G1 Prime, with the best combining trailer for a Prime since G1, and excellent articulation for such a stocky figure. It's a lot simpler to transform than most modern figures, so it's got a lot more durability. Overall, it's probably the best "reinvention" of OP we've gotten. Without his trailer he's about Ultra sized (the now-lost size class that used to be between Voyager and Leader), and with he stands up with the best Leader classes of any line.

Voyager Class:
Classics Optimus Prime might be a bit expensive on the after-market, but he's still an excellent figure. Some people have problems with his "arm shields", but there's plenty of after-market third party things that can be done with him. For one, Fans Project has a "powermaster Prime" colored version of their City Commander (aka Not-Ultra Magnus) armor that matches his colors exactly, and for another there's going to be a Power Master / God Bomber set of armor trailers coming out soon.

Deluxe Class:
Generations War For Cybertron Optimus Prime edges out Titanium War Within Optimus Prime for the best "Cybertronian mode" OP, mostly because of durability, articulation, and his vehicle mode doesn't have his hands sticking blatantly out there like Ti WWI OP does.

Those three, combined with the two I mentioned above, are MY favorite Primes. Any other character you wanna ask about?

Not wanting heaps of toys, you could do what some of these members do and perhaps just have the characters that are actually in the film. That way you have what is represented and a nice little collection in itself.

Cheers guys. So Battle Blades or Leader for the movies, and War for Cybertron/Cybertron/Classics Prime for other lines? Awesome.
So, I guess I better ask... Megatron?

Get prime 1st and wait for a leader one. If there aint a leader one, buy the DOTM voayager one. For a classics megs, you could try henkei or WFC one. although both are relatively hard to find now...

Okay - I've found a very cheap Battle Blades Prime on yahobby.com, and one at the original price on Tesco Direct. Does anyone know if I should trust yahobby? Some reviews I'm still pretty new to this online buying thing.

I never dealt with Yahobby. Hasbro Toy Shop has him for 10 bucks though. http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/transforme ... ST=SO&PG=7
I've ordered from them loads of times.
