Dose anyone else do this???

Have you ever spent so much time hunting down a rare figure that after you finally find it you have a powerful compulsion to by that figure when you see it for a second time? I do and I dont know why.
I dont by multiples though but I will take that rare figure and hide it behiend a few other figures of the same brand. That way a child wont come by and mindlessly point and say "oh mom I want that one!!" simply because he likes the color or something. If someone is looking for a specific figure, they will look through the figures no doubt and find the gem I have hidden for them. Anyone else do that?

Nope, children deserve that figure as much as any collector.

I don't do it to figures in stores, but I have scoured eBay and online stores for certain figures even after already having bought 1. Just paranoia about losing the one I have and having to hunt again for months at a time...

I know. Why would you want to deprive a kid of that figure?
Heck, when I was a child (but old enough to surf the web) I kept up with waves, QC issues, and rarity. I went into the stores looking for specific figures, I didn't just think "Oh look, he's blue. I like blue. I want him." I wasn't stupid. I'd always find those pesky collector-hidden toys. You'd be surprised how much some kids know when they go into the Transformers section.
If I'm low on cash, yes sometimes I do put things in the back for next time. But I don't do it with the intention of keeping it from a child that doesn't know much about it but still wants it, as if they're undeserving.

I'll get kind of a nostalgia feeling. Seeing it again in package. I wont buy it, but I might stop to look at it again, in it's little plastic prison.

I do the opposite when I spot harder to find toys. I put them in the front. Lol. I find it annoying to filter through the shelves, especially when they're over stocked and just thinking of touching a rack makes the boxes fall off, so I try and make life easier for other people who might be looking for the same guys.

What I find annoying is when I see a toy multiple times at a story but don't pick it up (don't have the money to at the moment, I wanted another character more, etc) but when the time comes that I want it I can't find it anywhere >__< Like fate is laughing at you for passing it up several times xP

If you hid figures for yourself to comeback and get in a day or two it'd be fine, but just so that way a kid can't have it... That's not just lame, it's silly.

To answer your question: No, I do not typically do that. I'm almost the opposite of an impulse buyer and a lot of the time I will regret passing up something I wanted just because I'm tight with my money. With that said I think it's better than mindlessly buying whatever under the false belief it's rare.

Same here. Everyone deserves the chance to buy the toys they want, whether they be "hardcore collector" or "stupid snot-nosed brats." I just cannot agree with hiding product.

...Actually, one exception. Product missing parts or otherwise broken. That stuff I'll tuck in the back of the pegs/shelves. Hard-to-find stuff front and center for all to see (and buy if they want), crap that should not be out to begin with in the back.

Most of the time I buy more than one just so I can deprive children from having it.

I don't hide figs. But if I see a figure that I want and know it's a rare one on top of that, I will only buy one. Cause I only need one. But if I don't have the money, I will past it up and once I get the money, if I go back to the store and see the figure is still there, then I know it was meant to be. Like my Leader Ironhide. I found him a month before I got him and they only had one of him. Didn't have the money at the time and didn't know he would be a rare one within my city. After I saw the movie, July 1st, I went back to that store, wanting a leader Ironhide more then anything. And there he was, the same one I saw before, the only one. So I got him. It was meant to be.

I think people are misunderstanding his motive for hiding the rare ones. I think he does it so it's only found by people actively searching for it. That's not the same as when people hide that figure in a different department to come back for later.

I disagree. Most children would be just as happy with any figure off the rack. I would rather see a rare figure go to a collector who will appreciate it, rather than have it end up broken at the bottom of a box of toys. Anyone, child or adult, who appreciates the difference between different figures will take the time to look through the racks. I don't want rare figures to be bought by unknowledgable parents or kids who simply grab what's on the end of the rack. I'm not saying I would hide them in another section of the store where no one will find them, but I will sometimes hide them in the back of the shelf/rack so that only those who look for them will find them.

You had the internet when you were a kid?? I'm OLD. And I agree. When I was a kid waaaaaay back in the 80's, I still knew who the characters were and didn't just grab "the shiny blue one." Some kids aren't that stupid.:CON:

If they're smart enough to know what they want, they're smart enough to look through all the figures.

Once again I find myself having to defend my post because for whatever reasonI was misunderstood. Here goes.
I know. Why would you want to deprive a kid of that figure?

I would never depribe a child of a toy. Come on now.
Heck, when I was a child (but old enough to surf the web) I kept up with waves, QC issues, and rarity. I went into the stores looking for specific figures, I didn't just think "Oh look, he's blue. My point exactly. Youve just agreed with me and you dont even know it. I agree with what youve just said and that is precicely why I do what I do. If you are LOOKING for a certain figure, child, or not, you will scroll through the pegs to find it.

If I'm low on cash, yes sometimes I do put things in the back for next time. But I don't do it with the intention of keeping it from a child that doesn't know much about it but still wants it, as if they're undeserving.

I never said anyone deserved or didnt deserve anything. You and several others have missunderstood my intentions.
Im only trying to make sure a figure like generations cup, scourge, wheeljack, thundercracker, warpath, or any other hard to find figure gets into the hands of someone who wants that particular figure. Id rather see it go to someone who truley wants it (be they a child, or not) than see it go to some child who simply buys it because hes being rushed out of the toy isle by momma,(It happens ALL THE TIME. Trust me. I work at a walmart and see it often.) or have a parent whos clueless to what to buy grab it up for a kid who dosent even want it and will never touch it.
Hopefully that clears things up a bit.

I'm with you, decepta-scott. Hiding the good/rare figures in the back does not deprive anyone of anything. It just makes it more likely that good/rare figures go to those who are willing to look for them, rather than the parents who grab whatever is on the end of the rack.

And don't talk about what kids "deserve". You know what kids deserve? Food, clothing, shelter, a decent education, a good home and a loving family. The idea that they "deserve" all the best toys smacks of the sense of entitlement that has become like a cancer in this country, where everyone thinks they're "entitled" to this, that, or the other thing. That's the kind of thinking that leads to grown-ass adults throwing fits in McDonald's when they're out of McNuggets.

Yea, that totally makes sense actually.
When I was younger, like 13, I'd swear, someone was doing this for me. It's how I found most my more sought after toys, like TM2 dinobot or other show characters.

I allways love a little hide-and-seek. Although I don't hide any figures I allready have, or don't want (hell, if somebody wants to pay ridiculous amounts of money figures are going for here, they deserve them...) if I see something I want to buy later, it happened I put it behind a more expensive price tag - if somebody knows what to search for, they'll know it's not behind the correct tag. Also, it happened reverse, too - I tend to make some order when I'm in the stores

Also, when I see new/discounted figures on the shelves, I tend to look literally everywhere in the store.

I hate to say it but I picked up a second Warpath Yesterday to keep minty fresh  . I did however leave the Wheeljack behind for another collector.
