To give or not to give...

I'm not much of an army builder; I never collect multiples of a mold unless they have some significant remold, like the Coneheads and their wings. My fav G1 Decepticons are the trio of Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge (with Cy being my top pick) - so starting with Universe Cyclonus I picked them us as they were released, and was perfectly happy with them until RTS Cyclonus came into town.

So my when my wife picked me up the Battle in Space pack for my birthday, I got a properly G1-coloured version of Cyclonus - making the old Uni version a bit redundant in my collection. I thought about keeping him as "the Armada of one", but like I said before, I'm not much of an army builder. Also, if I was planning on having "an Armada", it wouldn't feel right without some Sweeps for Scourge, and that again would push me to buy figures that I don't really want/need.

Thus, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should do with the old Cyclonus. I kinda want to keep him, because it was picking him up that prompted me to get Galvy, and eventually Scourge. While he filled the place of Cyclonus in my collection, I thoroughly enjoyed the figure - but RTS Cy is just so much better because of the paint scheme. Because RTS Cy is so much more cartoon-accurate, Uni Cy is probably just going to collect dust. A good friend of mine is also a big TF fan, but he's got very few figs, and the only recent one was the RTS Jazz that I bought him for Christmas, that he really likes. I know Cyclonus was a character he recognizes having when he was younger, so I was considering gifting him my Uni Cy for his birthday, it would probably blow him away.

So should I keep the figure for nostalgic reasons, or gift it to my friend so that a sure to be neglected figure will find a good home?

Thanks for the opinions!

I'm a bit of a TF hoarder and I tend to keep figs even after I tire of them.

From your situation I think giving him to your firend would be the nicest thing, though. Sometimes the hoarding way is not the best way.

I'm going to say the girl thing, Do what your heart tells you. If giving the figure to your friend who is also a Transfan and new to collecting, and knowing this will make you happy also, then let your friend have it. At least giving it to a friend you'll know it'll be taken care of.

I've thought the same thing with mine and the universe Cyclonus. The battle in space one is more G1 homage, but the Universe has more paint apps to it overall. If someone honestly wanted it, I think I wouldn't have a huge problem parting with it. It would allow someone to have one that may have missed out a while back and can't afford the BiS pack?

I don't have an answer for ya, cause I've thought the same thing.

Keep it. You'll miss it if you give it away.

It sounds to me like he should go to a new home where he will be loved. I did that with an extra figure that came in a lot and it was worth it for the expression on the recipient's face.

Plus, if you're giving it to a friend that you see often you can always go and visit Cyclonus.

If he takes care of his Tfs, i say give it to him. We'll after all he's your friend and Uni cyclonus would find a new home in his collection rather than being a white elephant on your shelf. ;)

Send him to a new home, where he will be loved and cared for.

See, this was kinda my fear, too... It's not like I could ask for it back! However, I've decided to go with the greater consensus, and give the gift of Cyclonus. Convieniently, my friend's b-day is fast approaching... :KREMZEEK:

Thanks to all for the encouragement, and advice. Now to go and transform him a few final times! ;)

Actually, speaking of the Battle in Space 2-pack....I just gave Rodimus away. A dude a work came up to my desk and said (under his breath) damn, that is cool. Since I only cared about the Cyclonus figure, I thought maybe Mike would like that thing. He is a fan of the original movie. I gave him the figure the next day, and he was freaking happy. He said it meant a lot because he knew how much I care about my TFs. I felt pretty good about that.

I like the vehicle mode of the Uni version a bit more than the BIS version, so I keep that one to transform back and forth while my BIS and Henkei stay in bot mode on the shelf, and to use when my kids and I play TFs.

Giving it may be the "right" thing to do, but if you decide to keep it, don't feel bad.

I reckon giving it away is the best thing to do. Obviously it's your figure and there's no obligation to get rid of him just because you've got another one, but it's nice to be nice. Plus as a collector on a budget who can hardly ever afford to buy figures, I'd be really chuffed if a friend gave me one of theirs.

And like they say - what goes around comes around...
