New Opinion of Ultimate Optimus Prime

So I walked in Kmart this past week and lo and behold they have TWO Ultimate Optimus Primes. Now I did not like what I saw of this guy online in pictures and even some of the reviews. However when I saw it in the store I couldn't help but notice how much BETTER it looked in person. This is actually a really nice toy and a really cool version of Prime, with trailer no less. I am so stoked right now! Probably don't have to say I bought one.
What do you all think? Anyone not care for it until they saw it in person?

I had planned to skip Ultimate OP and just buy a Jetwing version from Takara. But having seen UOP for the first time in person at Target today, I figure that I may actually pick one up if it goes on clearance. Still getting Jetwing first, though.
I much prefer the wing positioning in the package though, as opposed to the butterfly look.

I already ordered one for a friend's birthday gift, and if it looks good in truck mode, I'll get one for myself. I think the robot mode looks like ****, combined or not.

I do think it looks a little better in person (in the package), but I still don't want it. I'm hoping that we'll get a release of Jetwing Prime here, preferably with the Buster Prime mold.

Agreed. I wasn't at all impressed by all the pics I had seen, but it looks impressive in person. I would make a great MISB display piece, but I'm not sure I want to pay the high price for that to sit unopened, although e-hobby Guardian sits there and I have no intentions to remove it from it's box and he cost quite a bit more.
Actually, after typing this and thinking about what I've bought and the prices I've paid for some of it the Ultimate Prime actually seems like a good deal. I might get one now, damn!

The first pic of this guy that I saw I thought it looked like a bad attempt at a movie armada prime. But as soon as I saw Emgo's review of it I saw why this guy is so good. The reason, it blows the dotm voyager optimus out of the water.
As soon as I finished watching Emgo's review I ordered ultimate op off of amazon.com. He is the best movie op IMO.

I actually am the oppossite.
I loved the DOTM Ultimate optimus prime toy when I first saw pics of it on the internet.
That is until I read a few on-line reviews & saw a u-tube toy review video. I was extremly dissapointed that the combined legs were just as bad & not that poseable like armada leader sized optimus prime.
I'm all about loving super poseable tranaformers toys.
Sadly before I read the reviews & saw the u-tube video. I had already ordered the DOTM Ultimate optimus prime toy from walmart.com for $64 with free shipping.
Since I had the toy. I decided to open it up & give it a full chance. the smaller ultra sized truck cab/bot is a awesome toy. everything is downhill from their. the trailer suit of robot armor is such a huge dissapointment. I did notice the irony of molded in back knee sculpt but nothing moves.
I think most of all I hated the mech tech weapon. it just seemed aimed at toddlers. the mech weapon is super annoying because it's too over sized & heavy for the combined robot to handle.
I wasn't a fan of the tiny robot head in combiner mode. I did un-screw the helmet that was attached to the mech tech weapon & put it on the toy.
All I gotta say thank goodness for the walmart on-line site giving customers the option of printing up the receipt & returning it to a local walmart store. thankfully I was able to return the awful toy & get my money back.

I opened mine last week and i realy like him , at first in photos the wings on him looked naff but when i got him out and posed him i changed my mind it just looks so good imo a real behemoth among the rest of my DOTM.
For me its all about the trailer mode i just love it, it displays great i was very suprised at how easy and fun it is to transform.
I noted these already in another thread but TWO things i would like fault on him though not too major first off i hope Reprolablels make some trailer sickers for down the sides he does look little plain.
Secondly his head is very small i dont know why they didnt make a giant helmet to go with his giant hands and feet i hope somebody comes up with one.
Over all im very happy with mine.

you can un-screw the blue outer helmet that'ts attached to the over sized mechtech weapoon & place it over the smaller head.

i didn't plan to get him...until i saw him at target. i love it. the wheels on prime's arms aren't that bad in person and his legs don't look like chicken legs. overall, I love him.

I was planning on getting him, but had some doubts. I love him in person though. As has been mentioned, for some reason the basic robot's arms and legs seem a lot better in person--I find myself really like the base Prime himself. The trailer looks like a trailer in vehicle mode, albeit a bit of a wide load, but I really like the Omega armor mode. The arms have a lot more articulation than I thought. I like how the gun pegs to his back like a jetpack. As a giant gun with targeting helmet, it looks like it would dispatch of 'Cons they way their guns dispathed of humans in DotM.
Honestly, I find it tough to stop messing with it.

Just to clarify...the OP in the fiery shiny package from SDCC is the same as this UOP?

Yes just displayed in truck and trailer mode with the cool SDCC box.
I have not been to excited about the figure since I first saw it. I do like it in truck and trailer mode anf if I were to buy one it would most likely stay that way. I just don't like the price tag on it and it's combined robot form. If it goes on clearance and I see it, I will probably break down and get it.

Thanks for the word Air Commander Starscream. Yeah the box from SDDC is pretty damn cool and worth keeping it in display as is. Especially the tail gate door...did anyone see it? Pretty damn cool!

I really do debate whether or not to open mine. He looks so cool in package with the flames and boxart- best packaging I've ever seen for a Transformer. I'm sure I will open it and keep the box to store during my pending move. I also plan to display him with his wings in the "down-mode", or some other variation that looks more movie-accurate. All in all quickly becoming my favorite Transformer toy period.

I noticed a few people saying how they can't stop messing with it......So freakin' true! I never imagined after getting him that he would taunt me on the shelf and have to fool around with him constantly haha! He's just so dang fun to transform and put together! I was gonna keep him in the box, but decided to open him after seeing a lot more surface in stores, and now its my favorite transformer toy of the movie line to transform! Ridiculous looking? Yes without a doubt. Incredibly cool to transform and play with? Heck yea it is!

I really didn't like the online pictures that I had seen of the toy. In power robot mode he looked too much like a butterfly. Let me say that viewing the toy in person totally changed my mind. Ultimate Optimus Prime looks spectacular in person. I just had to have it. The one thing I don't like is the size of its arms. I rotate them a bit to make them look thinner. Out of the three modes the truck mode is my favorite. That said I don't like the MechTech weapon. It looks childish to me.

Read what I think about
ultimate optimus prime here.

DO NOT buy it at Target. They want $80 when you can get it at Walmart for $65. Talk about price gouging!

I think the MSRP of Ultimate Optimus is $79.99 that's also the list price at TRU. The Walmart.com $65 price is a sale price, I think I saw the same price of $79.99 listed when I saw it at my local Walmart store. I'm glad I got it at the sale price of $65 though. btw it's sold out on Walmart.com.

I was originally gonna get this, then the plan was to skip this and get the takara jet wing & takara voyager (truck mode display) But now i kinda want this again...
Argh. I will stick to my choice and get the above mentioned 2 figs. *
think of the trailer that actually fits delux classes

I was going to buy a 2nd one from there when i saw this. So I had to go to Target and pay $80 for it.
But I don't regret buying another one, it will be displayed in truck mode.
