I do on a fairly regular basis. I sell the unwanted on ebay.

I wouldn't replace deluxes with HA because of scale. My collection is separated into different scales. Although concept camero Bee has been replaced with a better version I don't want to get rid of it because he's still a great figure. Actually, he's the only one with the accurate chest!

I only really replace them if a superior version comes out in "roughly" the right scale size for me. I've replaced
07 voyager movie prime w/ HFTD voyager BB Prime
07 deluxe movie Arcee w/ ROTF deluxe Arcee
ROTF backfire w/ DOTM HA backfire.
I have the 07 movie payload and the HFTD payload. I kind of prefer the 07 payload as he is kind of unique for the movieverse. I know, I know... HFTD payload is way better, but just the uniqueness of the 07 mold makes me just leave him there.
I don't know what to do yet w/ the ones that do get replaced. Leave them for custom kitbashes or sell them off.

Even when Universe Hot Shot came out I never replaced the Armada Deluxe for him. Replacing just doesn't happen.. it's more of 'addition'.

This. I have multiple iterations of Optimus Prime and Megatron (much to my wife's chagrin or amusement, I can't tell which), at least one for each line, plus a Deluxe or Legends one for my Office Shelf.

All the time. When Animated came out, I actually bought some figures as I got rid of others. It was cool to get them in one (superior, in my opinion) style.
Couple examples:
Energon Shockblast- Animated Shockwave
Energon Grimlock and Swoop- Animated Grimlock and Swoop

Not for me.. I can't just remove them. Like everyone else I 'add' onto, cause each mold will have a very different transformation and look/feel to it.
Even though I got 2 Fallens (the normal and burning), I never only keep the one I prefer.

I kinda intended to replace my 2007 Legends Optimus Prime with my recently bought HFTD Battle Blades Prime, but it kinda felt too harsh to throw the tiny bugger after 4 years of owning him.
Instead I decided to keep him in vehicle mode ever since the new Prime entered my room (due to Legend Prime's scrawny and largely inaccurate and scrawny robot mode.

)
