The one you saw was probably the 2010 Edition by TakaraTomy:

Or the 25th Anniversary Universe re-release of Armada Unicron, he was a Toys 'R Us exclusive:

The upcoming Masterpiece Unicron is an amazon.com exclusive and will be released in November. It feature a more accurate lighter orange, bordering yellow.

Here ya, go; from a post on TFW. This guy has Amazon Unicron in hand, and boy, is he ever disappointing. Weird and ugly paint job, and to add insult to injury, his eyes are green transparent plastic but... the LED's are still RED! So you can imagine what those will look like when lit. And it ain't green!
If I was you, I'd find a 2010 Takara Unicron for sure, instead of waiting 'til November for the inferior Amazon Unicron!

I don't know what gave you that idea, but Amazon Unicron is a pretty long way from being anything like a Masterpiece

He's called Masterpiece Unicron by Hasbro:

And it seems I was a month off. Which begs the question on where the seller got his stash... And the LEDs will be replaced with green ones, lemme look for the thread.

MASTERPIECE UNICRON! Will be an Amazon Exclusive, will have a brand new head Movie accurate 86. Will be in the case Available on Amazon in October. I talked to Hasbro reps at the booth who told me the toy on display was not final and that the final version would have clear/green light up eyes.

Hmm. I like the G1 colors, but prefer the Armada head. It seems to fit the body better.

Now, if the Armada head stayed and the body was colored G1, I'd be interested in buying.

Gundam is that the final look for this upcoming Unicron? Aww **** that is horrible. And I had already picked up Takomy's Unicron and I had plans to keep him boxed and buy this Hasbro version. 8-| Well time will tell once we get something more to make a final vote... :BOOM: :VEHI:

Is it just me, or is metallic paint overkill for flash photography? Here's another gallery for comparisons:

I'm definitely getting this one. It looks more movie accurate than any of the other ones to me.

I actually like the Hasbro one. Anyone seen any pre-orders my side of the pond?

I don't know why people are complaining so much, it looks fine, actually, no, more like awesome to me. Go forward a couple pages in that thread and you'll find much better pics from the same person. The first batch just wasn't very good and it looks weird next to the other Unicrons. I'm still 100% stoked for this release.

OK, yup, that did say Masterpiece Unicron… But now check this: Amazon Unicron in package on eBay. In contrast to Hasbro Masterpiece Starsream, MP Skywarp, MP Grimlock and MP Hot Rod, which all had text on the front of the box proclaiming them to be ‘Masterpiece *insert name*’, Unicron’s box actually doesn’t say Masterpiece anywhere!
And regarding the quote that the Hasbro rep seems to have made... I’m guessing he either didn’t know what he was talking about, or a change was made in production which once again gave Unicron red LED’s instead of green ones. I have no idea what the practical reasons are to choose red LED’s over green ones (cost cutting? Are green LED’s more expensive than red ones? ), but I’m guessing if green LED’s were a viable option, Takara would have already given their 2010 Unicron green eyes. BTW, it’s real easy to switch the red LED’s for green ones: makes Unicron look a lot more perfect.
Anyhow, the owner of the Amazon Unicron I mentioned above also posted these pictures of the eyes glowing red. I’m practically certain that Unicron’s eyes will once again light up red instead of green. But my advice is this: believe what you want to believe!
