or just very rare and very expensive, highly-coveted, sought-after Transformers products, items, that very few people own and are very reluctant to sell. Because for another franchise, Super Sentai(better known as Power Rangers in the Western World) i'm sure a lot of you geeks and nerds like me, know that the Dragon Buckler is the crown jewel, holy-grail of all Super Sentai/Power Ranger items, or just the most coveted, products, or just most sought-after, because I know there are other Super Sentai items more rare than the Dragon Buckler, but nowhere near as expensive as the Dragon Buckler since they are not as coveted as much, it was only released in Japan, never saw the Western Markets: here is what it looks like:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie3f0mhnPeQ
Anyway, back to the subject, I was just using the Dragon Buckler as an example, metaphor, like what do you think is the Transformers equivalent to the Dragon Buckler in terms being very expensive, rarity and sought after?

imo its the original unicron which was never mass produced or released anywhere hasbro has that one stashed somewhere safe.i believe there are images here somwhere in the galleries.

The obvious one would be G1 Fortress Maximus, which has never been released after the original characters for the mold. Prices tend to run in the hundreds of dollars and nearly $1000 for complete and/or unopened.

also isn't the Pepsi Edition Optimus Prime very rare and expensive too?

TFC Hercules will be the most expensive and most coveted. I have a feeling these will have one run each and will seem like a deal in comparison 10 years from now.

Depends on your taste. Some mass produced but limited to Japan releases have become quite rare. The dino cassettes, Artfire, Stepper(sort off), Raiden. Roadranger aka Slapdash, Overlord,Black Zarak, Grand Maximus, Great Shot, Super Godginrai (until the re-issue), Double Clouder, Hydra and Buster. And the Pretender Metalhawk (like nearly all the Headmasters, Masterforce,Zone,Victory 'bots).

Return of Convoy, Zone and Operation Combination figures are also HTF.

All were mass releases in Japan.

I agree, it all depends on taste and the boundaries of your collection. Id say the most coveted would be lucky draw figures that fall in the boundaries of said collection, though. Mine was Henkei Black Convoy, which never made it to release, but my collection is a Classics/Henkei throwdown.

Fortress Maximus, hands down.

The Unicron was never released. Just a prototype that unless you pull off some kind of oceans 11 scenario, will never make it into your hands. That sucker is under lock and key. Cant remember how many were made. Less that three for sure.

so no collector owns that prototype Unicron? not even a very rich collector?

Not certain who exactly owns it, other than its been displayed at Botcon. Have you seen the pictures of it yet?

I notice everyone is missing on a main one. G1 Jetfire. Find him mint in a sealed mint box for less than $800 - $1000. Good luck with that.

Jetfire is a good, rare piece, but the OP seems to be looking for the most rare and expensive piece out there in existance.


On deeper thought, I would imagine it to be the original hardcopy of Optimus Prime which goes way before Transformers. I wonder if it still exists...

Oh, I see. I misunderstood I suppose. When he said rare or coveted, I'd consider G1 Jetfire to be coveted so I guess I just misunderstood.

I did too at first. Thinking it was a matter of preference, which in a sense, it is. I still think its Hardcopy Optimus.

what about shining unicron? weren't there like only 13 or so made?

Since when is G1 Jetfire worth $800 boxed? I usually see them for about $250, but it has been a while since I went hunting for him.

I have a complete one with gun clip that I got for $60 a few months ago. That was an amazing deal for the figure.

Not sure what the most expensive TF product is. Grand Max might be up there since his value tends to weigh in at $3500.

G1 Prototype Unicron is a definite rarity. I have the strangest feeling though that Hasbro is planning something for a release of him though. My thoughts go to Botcon 2009. The ones on display looked pretty fresh didn't have a hint of age. Even MISB Transformers show their age, but those 2 in the case didn't. That leads me to believe that they are just waiting for the right time to give him a run so he can be available to collectors.

I actually own some of those. Makes me feel a bit proud, really.

Don't forget Masterforce pretender Lander. A mailaway in Japan, no mass release. The only difference between the takara and the hasbro version is the box, but still. I very much wanted that and the prices usually go around those of Metalhawk, so I take it it's somewhat rare.

In terms of grails, Minelba deserves her own special place.

My immediate thought is the Lucky Draw Primus (the gold chrome repaint of G1 Hot Rod). There were only 100 of them made and they were only available as prizes in Transformers Generations Deluxe collector's book.

Also on the super rare list are Operation Combination's Guard City and Battle Gaia - I saw GC on ebay boxed for $2000 and I've never seen Battle Gaia anywhere. Although I don't really know how coveted they are...

IMHO,It's Brave 199O Dino-geist. this toy was suspose to be released under the transformers toy line. since transformers in japan wasn't selling it got put into the brave toy line.
