Why are these Giant robots so small?

I remember, back in Beast wars, Beast machines, RiD, And Armada. Transformers were larger than life. Even the deluxes seemed big, but the (what we now call) Voyagers, were massive! And Ultra Class Figures made constant apearences. Optimal Optimus, Tigerhawk, Transmetal II Megatron, Nightscream, Cheetor, Jetstorm, and Optimus Primal all came in "Ultra Classes", even though BM Ultimate Air attack Primal (Ultra) didn't come out until RID. Armada and Energon and Cybertron all had Great sized figures of exelent quality as well, the first Unicron is like 20 years, energon Omega, Starscream and PRIMUS! Also, like back then, WAY Back then, we had stuff coming out like metroplex, trypticon, skylinx, overlord, scorpinok, I mean, what happened to all that? Last time I checked, Transformers were supposed to be GIANT Robots. sure, those were all ultras, but I mean, we had decent sized deluxes too! DOTM VOYAGER Megatron is the size of what alot of DELUXE Figures used too be!
lets skip forward shall we?
Right now, the biggest bot' out is...Ultimate optimus prime? Lame.... A giant innacurate brick of plastic not worth it's weight in pennys. Sure, a few years ago we got Ultimate Bumblebee, yeah, he was great huh? What about Devastator? Wasn't he just loads of fun? Let us not forget Roll out cammand Optimus Prime and Battle Ops Bumblebee! Both of those were wastes of what could have gone towards awesome figues that we now will never get. we COULD Have gotten Animated Omega Supreme and Maybe an ultr class fallen? You never know what COULD HAVE BEEN. Lets just hope that hasbro shapes up. what's that? A new Unicron on the way? but it's the same old mold. Armada Unicron was cool for Armada. Now we need New stuff. Transformers Prime, your the ticket to Hasbro's resurection. I hope they don't let us down with this one, like giving us a leader ARECEE or something... oh dear lord.

Personally I really hope Hasbro will re-make Omega Supreme with the right size into classics/universe/generations/RTS/whatever. I just guess moms nowadays will not spend that much money to buy that much big plastic robots for their children, nor will they allow their husband to buy. Hey, I mean it. My wife does not allow me to buy any robots that are bigger than Unicron as she pretty much freaked out when she saw Unicron. So, I don't think Hasbro will make those big fella if they don't sell well.

Yep. That's the effects of inflation, oil prices and all that goes with it. Need oil to make plastic so oil prices directly effect the amount of plastic that can be used for the same price point to allow for proper profits. On the other hand, look at how technology an new innovations has given us so many great new molds like classics, some of the movie stuff and stuff like Alternity etc. So it's not entirely all bad.

yes, but imagine, all these deluxes that should have been voyagers, Like WFC Megatron and Optimus, for exaple, Actually COULD have been. That's how it used to be. now it's just slap together a deluxe and call it a day....

Times has changed... Sure i was not born till the end of the 20th century and only collected TFs 5 years ago, i know that what 1 buck can buy you is much more than it is today. Everything in the past used to cost alot less than their counterparts today. Not just TFs, but its the same for food, clothes, ECT. The price of everything has gone up. In order not to make us pay ridiculous prices for TFs, hasbro has to sacrifice the size of these figures to save costs. Even so I believe the prices of Tfs went up around 5 bucks since i started collecting in 2007. Also, the target audience of TFs are kids. Young kids. You see commercials for cool transforming robots and ask your parent to buy em for you. Parent would defiantly not want to loads of money just because their child wanted a popular character like prime ... who say ... is only in leader class. That's why hasbro has made most characters into voyagers and deluxes. From what i see, they used the "emotional" factor as a selling point of leader class TFs to non-collectors. You see a show, ironhide dies, i dont know who he is, but i still buy a toy with lights and sounds of him. Thats probably how it works... so hasbro cant afford to put collector favs. In leader sizes. I know people have been wanting a leader blackout, but ask any adult browsing the TF section to name 3 robots. If he/she names blackout, ask if he is buying for his children or for himself.

This stays true to movie and cartoon-verse Classics is a whole different story, obviously targeted at collectors, which is why it dose not appeal as much to kids and stores stopped importing RTS/gens. (I want my perceptor and warparth! )

Whoops, too much rambling

I got unicron last year, on the contrary, instead of screaming at me, my parents got me 2 new shelves! :D And i went ahead and got the 2010 primus while i was at it too  (had to save up for both though). But again, a month later i went to japan and got myself a reissue predaking (which i still have no place to put) ;) I dont think parents in asia mind huge ass robots round the house

dont know about previous lines but when your mechtech weapon comprises a full 15-20% of the bulk of a deluxe and voyager figures youve got a problem. also when you include a gun that is the size of an ultra class prime youve got big problems.

people like to dispute whether the weapons affected their size and to me at least its an obvious yes.

Stop being so negative. The sizes haven't changed that much. The MechTech thing is an aberration; the figures are smaller because they have big weapons. There are so many great figures coming out all the time. Quit living in the past.

I read somewhere on the forum some people said they were big suckers on the oversized weapons (Energon Starscream, yes, you). Think we complained too much about Classics Prowl's pathetic pistol. Guess Hasbro read those too so gave us these. Oversized weapons do work well on certain characters on certain spots, but putting a HUGE gun on top of the roof or even too big and heavy for the arms to handle isn't a good thing.

sheesh! lighten up and have some coffee >:oP

no ones being negative the op asked about the decreases in size and since im not into the a/c/e/ lines i couldnt refer to them. the only reference i have is the dotm and previous movie lines.

sizes havent changed that much but the figures ARE smaller? so which is it?

im not living in the past  yes there are great figures coming out and i have bought quite a few of the movie figures to be sure but all i was doing was replying to the op's question.

Overall the basic Size Classes haven't seen much change between Beast Wars and now. When I compare BW Neo Drancron, a repaint of BW Deluxe Fuzor Sky Shadow with Crankcase, they're roughly the same size. But over the years, more Classes have been added and/or others have been retired. Here are the sizes we currently recognise, plus their archaic names:

Legend - Cyberverse Legion
Cyberverse Commander

Basic - Scout
Deluxe
Mega (retired)
Ultra (BW to RiD, Universe 1.0) - Voyager
Ultra (Armada and later, retired)
Leader
Supreme
Ultimate

The voyager size of today doesn't really compare to the ultra size of the past. The BW ultras are much bigger than voyagers. Voyagers seem to compare better to mega size, but just cost more. I guess it's all part of inflation.

Aw, shoot I forgot something:

Super - Leader

and FYI, BW Ultra Optimus Prime is the same size as Vector Prime and was even released as a Voyager ($19.99 price point) in Universe along with Depthcharge. It's more like that Supers like Optimal Optimus are closer to today's Ultras.
