To open the box, or leave it sealed.....

What do you guys prefer? Do you open up your bots and cons or leave them in their boxes? I prefer opening them up and transforming them for display. I keep my boxes though.

I think this one has been covered many a times before.

It's your call there. I say if you "know" the figure is going to be worth the cash later...then do it. EXP: Toys R us exclusive Masterpiece Rodimus Prime I'd probably say will go up.

Others.....like one of the many movie Bumblebees....probably a safe bet to open.

I open most of mine. I have a very few left in boxes. There my Hobby/toys. I do take care of them though and mostly for display only.

I'm trying to work out a trade for a Walmart Masterpiece Starscream. Keep it in the box huh?

I don't know much about the Masterpiece line other then they are expensive to start with and pretty accurate. Once again...thats going to have to be your call. I'd assume he will be worth more later. But at the end of the day.....your decision. I've heard of people trying to get 2 of each. One to keep in the box, one to open and display or kitbash. That can get out of control cash wise real fast. Even if you don't have any money worries....it can consume you fast.

The biggest problem with keeping them in the boxes is that they take up space much faster.

I agree with others that it is up to the individual to open theirs or keep them in the box.
I open all of mine, because I have to enjoy mine out of the box, and on display. I am not concerned with their value, because I do not plan on selling mine. Even the Masterpiece, or import Takara ones. I care for mine though so they all stay in mint condition. I keep the boxes for the Masterpiece and Large ones though, so in case I move they have a safe place to be packed for the move.
Do you...that's what's important.

It's a Transformer. I can't transform it if it's still in the box!

For me, that was part of the draw of the cartoons and the toys as a kid - that it isn't one thing, it's two, and I can go from A to B and back again. I love seeing my collection on a shelf, but I get a lot more joy out of converting the figures.

Agreed. I personally like to transform them once or twice and then display them in the mode I see fit. Sadly though the Starscream probably won't be mine....the guy wants an Ultimate Optimus, which I have in Mint condition, but he is not happy it is out of the box. His Scream is MIB though. Oh well.

When I mentioned in my last reply that I like mine out of the box and to display, I certainly meant that I transform them too. I actually change my displays often, by transforming different characters , and reposing them, and alternating different characters each time.

Keeps the display evolving and interactive.

This is the thing I like the most about Transformers. No matter what value it is, I want to feel the thing. I want to touch it, I want to fiddle with it, I want to TRANSFORM it, I want to display it in numerous ways.I bought many sealed-in-box TF off Ebay that were barely more expensive than their loose counterparts. Reissue 2009 G1 Optimus Prime, Energon Optimus Prime (with trailer and drones), 2010 Creator Primus, Encore G1 Starscream, Alternity Starscream and Optimus Prime, Alternator Optimus Prime and Prowl, Henkei Universe Prowl-with-Ravage, Masterpiece-01 Optimus Prime (last-shot), G1 color MP Starscream, MP Ghost Starscream, Reissue of G1 Shockwave, DotM Ultimate Optimus Prime, and every other recent brand new TF I bought from the store.

They were all sealed.

I OPENNED THEM ALL WITHOUT REGRETS.

I did keep a couple deluxes MOC. Because they might grow in value, but mainly because the packaging is awesome.... AND I ALREADY HAVE THEM A SECOND TIME, unsealed, proudly fiddled with and displayed. I also have TWO DotM Leader Ironhide. He seem rarer, and it was the buy one, get the second 50% off. So, I keep one sealed, and the other one, I played with.

If you keep all of your TF sealed, it mean YOU DONT LIKE TRANSFORMERS. Just invest your money in a bank instead. This way, you won't clutter your space with junk and you will make money faster, and with more certainty. You only have one expensive collection edition? OPEN IT UP! Play with it, enjoy it! Enjoy life.

There is only ONE TF that I have kept sealed without having a spare:
Beast War 2 Japanese exclusive Randy. This is why.

Dude, open it. If you like the packaging, sure, keep that too, but you can't enjoy something if you never get to even touch it.

I respect those MISB collectors, and in the end it's always your choice... but I've always taken a special joy in getting something particularly rare or desirable still in the package, and ripping that sucker open first chance I get :KREMZEEK:

I can't leave these beauties trapped in their prisons. Oh nay nay. They must be freed! Freedom is the right of all kickass TransFormers.

I only keep boxes and cards for really special figures. Such as Masterpiece Rodimus Convoy. (Gorgeous packaging.) And FP's products. The Masterpiece packages and a few CHUGs. Beyond that? All free. FREE, I TELL YOU!

*shakes fist angrily*

its 50/50 for me

Some i buy because of there Altmodes, some i buy because of there robot modes.

Depending on which way they are packaged, some stay as they are, some get taken out and transformed.

Its each individuals choice, and yes i'm still guilty of buying doubles if i like both modes.

And every MP figure i've bought has been taken out of its packaging to be played with! (though rodimus when striaght back into his box as he's not great...

The answer that I've given in the previous 52 threads on this:

Watch Toy Story 2 and then open them.

Sure, I have two large boxes full of sealed TFs at the moment but they'll get opened eventually. I'm saving them for a rainy day, but I WILL open them.

I keep some Legends carded, they make a great wallpaper in my TF/study-room. The only ones I'll probably never touch are G1 carded figures. I keep some Firecones (love them) sealed, Masterforce bracelets and some micromasters on the wall.

I do collect boxed G1 stuff, mostly masterforce (ouch in the wallet), but their tape gets cut and the toys get transformed. Then they go back in the box. I just love that 80's toystore feel, to me, that's a huge element of collecting.

I definitely open mine. If its something special I try to pick up a second one to keep sealed for trading/selling down the road.

I guess I just dont see the point of buying all of these figures to leave them in box.

I open everything except doubles, accidents, or all of the above... which is usually the case. I try to at least keep cardbacks and Japanese figure packaging, but pretty much anything that comes in a box must go.

I always open 'em up. My Beast Wars 2 Longrack is still in his box, but I haven't had a chance to crack him open since buying him on Sunday. I do really like his box, though.

OPEN is the answer and always will be

I just moved and could not imagine how it would have been packing 1,000+ boxes into boxes - @#$% that!!

How else are you going to get all modes?
OPEN!

And that is a perfectly practical reason, too.

So do many of you that keep the packaging have them piled up empty some where or do you plan to put that TF back and display? I think if it's rare or import maybe keep the package but if you have 2 toss it.

There seems to be few like me that can keep certain TFs unopened especially if rare and appreciate them as such. Like for example my E-hobby G1 Astrotrain or recent SDCC Starscream with Cobra Commander. They are for display only, they are mine and I think that is just awesome...'nuff said! ;)^ :VEHI:
