Is BANDAI's Super Valkyrie VF-1S, a good fit for G1 Jetfire?
Obviously I'm aware both versions derived from an original Takatoku Toys design by Shōji Kawamori, and therefore are the same toy. However in terms of colour scheme, paint apps (not a huge fan of the skull and cross bones) and armor colouring, would the BAN DAI version be considered a suitable G1 Jetfire replacement?
I'm not convinced it would be.
However, considering that Has/Tak no longer hold the licence, and therefore a reissue is extremely unlikely and considering a decent original Jetfire is worth in excess of £200 MIB, the BAN DAI version certainly does appear to be a cheaper option.
However what do you guys think?

I suppose if you wanted to do some paint work it could look just like Jetfire. I don't own the Valkyrie versions, so I can't speak to the small details, but from pictures it would work for me.

i own a re-issue Robotech skull leader & 2 mp robotech toys & iconsider these my jetfire toys. i don't care the decals colors are different. i don't care their is no TF faction symbols on the toys. nor do i care the box art is not tf. i'm just happy & content with owning these toys.

That had actually crossed my mind, however in terms of time, talent and money I'm pretty limited. I'm just to scared in case I cocked it up, and then I couldn't really afford to get a replacement.

I think its as close as you are going to get.
However you'll need to make sure you get the Super parts with it. Otherwise you'll get a naked Jetfire. (No thruster pack, or leg and arm panels.)
Another discrepancy is going to be those same Super Parts which are usually gun metal gray/blue. Where as Jetfire had red parts.
Also there's many many versions out there, you'll want to stay away from the Transformable Revoltech, and aim for the 1:48 versions.

I don't paint any of my figures either. I tend to rush things to get them done. And then they look like crap.

He IS a suitable Jetfire replacement. You can use reprolabels set. Though you might have to repaint the chest color emblem and score yourself his original red booster attachments.

They are nearly identical. Jetfire has a slightly more rounded nose cone at the tip. I have one I us to fool around with instead of touching my original. I live in fear of yellowing so he stays boxed away from sunlight only to come out for rare appearances.
I was going to paint it but I am not so great at it either. The repo labels like the above poster mentioned would go a long way toward giving the Jetfir appearance, and the paint apps needed should not be to hard to pull off He is mostly white with black strips. paint the black strips red and a little red on the chest and his eyes should be plenty.
A quick check of eBay showed all the parts of his red armor probably 50 bucks total.

I'm not a big fan of the chunky monkey.
As another poster mentioned the 1/48 scale version is an option, which is made by Yamato. These are super poseable and awesome. The Hikaru VF-1S version is white, red and black, and have bundled sets with super parts. If you go Yamato, just be careful with the 1/60 scale version 2. Better scale with other figures, but many had broken shoulder issues. Mine was fine though.
