Skyrocketing Prices

Hey all. Was looking up the going prices for G1 Jetfire and came across some listings for ROTF Jetfire. I was a little shocked to see the price for that figure so high, so I checked completed listings ( http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?rt=nc&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=transformers%20jetfire%20rotf%20leader&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283 ) .
When did all of this happen. It's been a while since I've bought on ebay or even really seriously looked at the TF prices there. Really around $100 bucks for a sealed Jetfire, give or take $40. I really regret only getting the one when I found them on clearance.

Any other prices that have popped up lately that have been a surprise to anyone?

Don't look into it too much. Those "high prices" are like a bubble, prone to bursting in your face. In fact, that's the reason i've been avoiding EBay like the plague.

I realize the trend, and figure it's due to people wanting to make the combination with Prime. But when did this start? Are people here actually paying these crazy prices? Although the crazy prices are justified as Transformers are as much a hobby as a line of toys and if you pass up things at retail thinking you'll catch them on clearance you might not find it at that point and will be forced to pay the going rate.

Guess there are too many leader Primes (thanks to Takara) and too less Jetfire.

Even though the RotF Power Up Optimus Prime combo is lacking at best, it's still more affordable and more readily available compared to Jetwing Optimus Prime. Especially the latter is a deciding factor for some, which I find fine, unless you're thinking "I'll never get Jetwing Prime, why bother?"

I think it started when the 07 movie came out and general people started to realize there was a market for these toys aside from just children.
I wish they'd turn their attention to buying up the DOTM crap that keeps shelfwarming everywhere.

I don't recall seeing that many Jetfires when it was at mass retail, mostly OPs and Megs, so maybe the supply wasn't that great.

The combo is nice, although I'd prefer Jetwing Prime, but that's $200. Jetfire therefore is a much less expensive alternative, creating demand.

All speculation, no data to back-up my hypothesis. :D

I have no desire for Jetwing Prime, $100 + for Leader Prime and some wings/BFGs, I like the Striker Prime better(for an import) personally.
As DOTM Cyberverse Prime gets 2, count 'em, 2 jet packs for double the jet power :D

I had no problems finding Jetfire all the way up until DOTM released. I had seen about 5 of them on clearance

I found a JF locally for 40$, missing the front, will probably cost me that to get the gear.

I had that guy in my hands a bunch of times ans put it back every time. I am surprised that he is selling for that much money. I thought his bot mode looked like crap and I didn't like he way he just kind of hung off the back of Prime.
