Hasbro Renews Trademarks for Buzzsaw and Tankor

Hasbro has just recently renewed their Trademarks for the name Buzzsaw and Tankor according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It was speculated a while back that the DOTM Laserbeak repaint/remold revealed in Laserbeak's instructions would indeed be Buzzsaw. This filing could give credence to that story.

The question now remains what Hasbro might be planning to do with Tankor? Is Hasbro just keeping the name available? Perhaps a new toy? What are some of your ideas?

Seeing as how Tankor has been used to mean Octane lately, I'm gonna' go out on a limb and guess he's a repaint of some mold of DOTM Megs.

Three guesses for Tankor.
  • Another G1 Octane homage (a la Universe 2008 Tankor)
  • Another Beast Machines Tankor homage (a la ROTF Legends Tankor)
  • An original use of the Tankor name (a la Universe 2003 Micromaster Railbot Tankor and Cybertron Mini-Con Tankor)

This is completely random, but I feel like it's a RTS Optimus repaint.
It's probably a DOTM megs repaint though, that makes sense.

I wouldn't mind a classics version of Tankor from Beast Machines! Hasbro has given us most of the original Transformers in updated forms and it's probably time to spread to other series!

We already got Hotshot, Cheetor, & Dinobot and maybe a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

DOTM Megatron makes the most sense unless it is the name of a ship. But boat transformers have never been too popular. I never understood how they lost the copyright to Octane or any character they owned in the 80's for that matter. This is why I dont respect copyrights. They got sold to people who are probally dead by now and the paperwork is sitting in a box in someone's garage. In the DOTM line explain why Skids offical name is "Autobot Skids" but Mudflap does not have the word "Autobot" on the packaging ??? I think that is retarded.

Certain words are deemed to be "too common" to Trademark, hence why Jazz, Skids, Tracks et al. have to have "Autobot..." in front of their name on the toys.

Marvel also has a character named Skids. Hasbro might have trademarked Autobot Skids to prevent any legal wrangling.

A repaint of DOTM Megatron into Octane/Tankor with a new headmold would be nice. :D

Skids is still a word, like Jazz or sideswipe. You can't claim use to something like that. Believe it or not, goerge lucas owns the rights to the name droid. The droid phone has to pay to george lucas to use that name. It's deemed unique enough for him to trademark it. I think DC or lucas or anyone could name someone skids if they wanted to. Maybe hasbro could try to make the claim if their character was popular enough.

If it was to be a megatron repaint
1. a new head is guaranteed how many tf have half a face.

2.what line is this coming from? with all this crap about dotm ending in the next couple of months, it seem a bit late on to bring out some new repaints,by the time we get soundwave wheeljack buzzsaw the line should be done with rite??

Since we got Darksteel, I´ve been thinking about other cool Beast Era homages using movie-verse molds. The first one is a Deluxe Tankor, using the Brawl mold (an update to the Legends Class). So yeah, I hope that´s the case. And for Buzzsaw... what ever, I guess I would prefer it to be the name of the Laserbeak remold.

Just thinking although Megs would be an obvious choice for a Tankor it was mentioned in a thread the other day along with Buzzsaw there is to be a Decepticon version of Mirage ...could it be Tankor?

Two Mirage/Dino figures
Mirage/Dino Human Alliance figure
Decepticon Remold of Mirage [Just like DarkSteel from Sideswipe] Purplish Laserbeak repaint with a different head [Buzzsaw]

Do you even read replies? I mean, we've been through this trademark (not copyright :HEADHURTS: ) already months ago! Just saying... Just for the record, it's not the character Hasbro lost, it's the name, which follow a different set of laws.

Anyway, I don't think a Megatron repaint is likely, since it'll end as the same character. Has any repaint of Optimus Prime and Megatron been cast as a new movie character? Short answer: no. Long answer: no, kids wouldn't buy them. The likeliest scenario is a repaint of Cyberverse Guzzle, since he's a tank, and smaller figures are usually repainted just for the sake of claiming names. Look at the Cybertron Sky Attack Team for instance.

Maybe he's that giant-ass 4-legged green Decepticon we saw a few times from a distance in DOTM?

Ah, who cares? I want pics of Leader Megatron and Shockwave!
