In honor of my FINALLY completing my G1 Overlord piece by piece after 8 months, I was curious as to how long did you search for a TF that you really wanted but it was hard to find or you just couldn't find a quite good enough piece? Whether it be an original from the 80s or something released recently and impossible to find at first?
Mine is the above mentioned Overlord. Bought the first part (the main robot, bare ass naked) in January, and kept adding the small parts over the months, and today Mega Child finally arrived. It was all I was missing, and now the biggest Decepticon leader is standing tall and proud on my shelf. I think in honor of this occasion I will go and buy Last Stand of the Wreckers, as he is the main bad guy in it, if I'm not mistaken.
HELLZ YEAH!!!

When Alternators Prime was released, distribution in my area was lacking and I couldn't find him. He was even being advertised in comic books! It was about six months of periodically checking my local stores before I found one in a crushed box with the front bumper fallen off and rattling around inside the plastic bubble. I bought him and eventually only saw one more in my area.
Prior to him, distribution of Alternators was pretty good with the exception of Camshaft, which I never found. Other than that experience, mass retail figures have been okay to find (knock on wood).

The original Starconvoy. I got one less than a year before the reissue was announced, completely bare except for the the rubber treads. Over the next 2.5-3 years I pieced it together, unable to justify the purchase of the reissue, despite it's availability. So I get only 2 parts from finishing it when the rubber tread on the left side broke while it was just standing there.
So I bought the reissue on clearance from BBTS, liked the colors better and it's the one I keep on display. Sold off all the parts I'd gotten for the original but I still haven't sold the body. If anyone wants it PM me and make an offer.

If memory serves, I had to wait over six months until I finally got my hands on 2007 movieverse deluxe Bumblebee. The original was sold out almost before the movie hit theaters, and I had to wait until they released the Screen Battles versions with the tiny human figures before I finally bought him.

I waited many months to get a Beast Wars Neo Killer Punch. I could only ever find 1 or 2 on ebay that were always way overpriced and only available from China or Singapore (I was scared of scams/KO's), but I finally pulled the trigger on one (the VS set with Survive) when it came down to the last one on ebay, available from a seller in Singapore for around $125 US. It turns out he didn't have the little character card or instructions for the figure (which he informed me of after I made the purchase and even offered me a full refund), but that didn't bother me because I collect to display the figs out of box anyway, so the paperwork wasn't a big deal (it did come with the paperwork for Survive).
So the figure came in recently, and Killer Punch looks mint to me and is now residing on my now finally complete Beast Wars Neo shelf (at least as far as I'm concerned as I've gotten all of the figures I wanted from that line, which is most of them)

.
So it turns out that I found an honest seller who came through with flying colors, I'm so glad that I pulled the trigger and got him

(now where is that Botcon '98 ANTAGONY!!!!

).

When I was a kid, back in 1985, I always wanted to get G1 Snarl.
It took me until 2009 to finally buy one MISB.
As for other toylines, for years I had an
almost complete MASK toy line, missing only Gloria Baker's Stiletto vehicle. Then, also in 2009 I finally happened upon two concurrent eBay auctions, both for MISB Stiletto's. Bid on both and... won them both

I only got G1 Kickback two weeks ago and I wanted him in the 80s. Every time I searched ebay I only found battered ones or MIB for too high a price.

i'll be honest, when looking for a fig i've had to wait a maximum of 2 maybe 3 weeks to find it. so i've been pretty good so far.
but what's been pissing me off so far is trying to find RTS G2 Laser Optimus Prime.
Where the **ck is this guy?!
Here in Ontario I've driven 100km north, 100km south, 100km east and west....but still can't find the sucka.
It's probably the scalpers but even then I've never had this much frustration in finding a figure.

21 years. Always wanted the micromaster combiner team back in 1991. Knowing they'd cost you an arm and a leg, settled for the re-issues.
Recently completed the entire set by chronology( just the default versions)
1.Six Train 2003
2.Six Turbo 2003
3.Six Builder 2003
4.Six Liner 2009 (6 year gap)
5.Hard as @ss to find complete and undamaged

, and at a decent price, sealed in box Six Wing 2011 (see the 8 year gap?)
