Why can't Hasbro get Transformers eye color right?

So it seems with bigger Leader sized figures, Hasbro just can't get the eye color right. I like tinkering with them so changing out eye LEDs isn't a chore, but for the price you would think they would get it right.
Amazon Unicron: red
HFTD Leader Prime: green
DOTM Leader Sentinel: yellow/gold
DOTM Leader Ironhide: green
Do they just really not care or what?

I think a lot depends on whats the current 'flavour of the month' with Has/Tak's latest corporate think tanks. Either that or Hasbro just uses the cheapest LEDs they can buy at the time.
I agree its frustrating, I would have loved 25Th Anniversary Unicron to have had green LEDs, however that said, he's still a bloody awesome figure.

I think it also has something to do with color co-ordination. Red LED's are the cheapest to get, but Optimus Prime with red eyes? Same goes for any other Autobot, Hasbro could just look at what colors go best, and see what's the price. I have a feeling yellow is the 2nd cheapest.

I think they do it to piss off picky collectors.

Well, for unicron, red was cheaper. I forget the specifics of it, but green is a bit more expensive. It shouldn't be noticeable in bulk quantities. Though I know I've seen the same model LED in red and for green it was 9 cents more. Maybe it can add up, but, come on, 9 cents? That, coupled with the original being red, why change it?

IMHO,Hasbro is too cheap & doesn't care. as long as they can save money of cheaper colors, that's all they care about. Example: Hasbro's MP TRU Rodimus prime looks awful & like a KO compared to takara's superior color scheme on their Takara MP-09 Rodimus Prime toy.
Takara cares more about using exspensive colors & high lights on their TF toys they released in Japan.

I think that's true to a certain degree. However the Amazon.com Unicron for example, is just a straight repaint of Takara's 2010 Unicron, which also had the red LEDs. So maybe Hasbro shouldn't really take all the flack for that fail.

Hasbro may be cheap, but that has nothing to do with the deco on the TRU Rodimus. He comes with a targetmaster for a reason, the same reason he has the colors/stickers that he does: he's modeled after Targetmaster Hot Rod, which had more of a red/maroon tone than a pink tone.

USA Amazon-Unicron is "NOT" a Straight repaint of takara 2010 unicron.
all the colors & shades are radically different on both toys.
My guess is most Hasbro workers are clueless about 1986 unicron's eye colors, those who have a clue don't care. my SOLID GUESS is amazon-unicron got red eyes due to the live action movie CGI characters/toy decepticons all having red eyes.

That makes a lot of sense. The workers comment.
The packaged instructions have him listed as a decepticon. This isn't the case though. Unicron is a one bot faction.

And Superpants Micron Legend Convoy, red optics too. Fire Convoy's chromed optics were kind of orange red too.

jelze, they don't get red leds eyes from a vendor. the takara/hasbro factories make the leds eyes & add in the desired colors.

Wait, you're complaining about Ironhide's EYE COLOUR? Does it matter what colour his eyes are when they've made a black character 50% blue?!

It's an annoyance yes. Gives me an excuse to bust out the soldering iron though.

Exactly....
I'm more concerned amazon-unicron's torso being all grey & not orange-yellow. and parts of the toy being colored ocean blue. who cares about the 2 inch eyes being the wrong color, when 40% of the toy is the wrong color.

You sure about that? The different materials of a toy have their own price tag and manufacturer, and LED's are no exception. Maybe I should have said cheapest
to produce thanks to the gas inside.
And forgive me for forgetting all about the PM Prime toy, I have God Ginrai you know?

I still think Has/Tak really did miss a golden opportunity not making their respective Unicron's flashing eye LEDs green.
By the same token I can't complain, especially considering that even the original G1 toys eyes aren't even G1 cartoon accurate either.

aren't the eyes always correct on whatever Hasbro or Takara product you buy, by definition of being an official product?
Optimus Prime, I've Optimus Primes with red eyes, yellow eyes and blue eyes. One has a black eye, but that's just because he wasn't bringing in enough money for big daddy Hasbro.

Personally I don't especially care for any figure with light up gimmicks to begin with, let alone that I give a damn if it's the right color. It's just another form of over-gimmick-ifying a toy that would have more engineering room without it.
