Hey gang,
I was looking to purchase a MP prime and was wondering what the collect opinion was here on which one is the best one to pick up? After listening to the podcast I will probably skip MP-10 and maybe pick up an older one? What do you guys suggest?

Do mean getting one to not having one?

If it's a matter of price, I'd say just go for the original.

I think you are looking at 3 thngs.

Electronics
Size
Fingers

If you want electronics, a huge size, and articulated fingers go for MP-01 or MP-04

If you want a smaller size, don't carer about electronics, and articulated fingers aren't really important go for MP-10.

Other than that, they are both Prime, and in general terms offer the same things.

If you go for the original release don't forget that th smokestacks have been shortened on the Hasbro version. It bothers some people more han others.

Looking at them side by side (I own MP-01, both the Hasbro and Takara versions as well as MP-10), I really like MP-10 a LOT more. He just looks far more accurate to me (i.e., he looks more like he did in the cartoon), but MP-01 is still a marvelous figure, and there is something to be said for the massive size. I don't care much about the trailer because I display him in bot mode, but Takara did a nice job with both trailers that they did for their MP Primes.

If price is a major factor for you, then definitely go with MP-01, MP-10 going for $250 is a major hit to the wallet for a single figure, especially when you're not as picky as I am about how your figures look.

I have both and personally I like the original masterpiece a bit more...while the mp-10 is more accurate to the cartoon in terms of looks, the mp-1 has kind of a presence when on display...plus its a hundred bucks cheaper so that doesn't hurt either

I'm of the mindset that MP-01 / 20th OP is far more impressive, and is the ultimate centerpiece for a collection.. but MP-10 fits better with the Classics than Classics Voyager Prime, especially with MP Grimlock and Classics UM with City Commander armor alongside him.

it depends on your personal taste & what you like or dis-like in a TF figure.

IMHO,MP-01 convoy is decent but it's so out of scale & can't really fit into any scale with other figures on dispay shelves.

At the very least MP-10 is 9 inches tall & can fit in scale with other leader sized TF toys from AEC,Animated & movie verse.

Personally I love i-gear's faith leader the best. which is a 3rd party smaller scale MP-01 Convoy that's around 8.3 inches tall. Personally this toy is awesome because it's got everything MP-01 has but at a smaller scale. optimus prime wasn't that big of a generation one toy in robot mode. nor was optimus prime that big of a character in the G-1 cartoons. so at the very least this i-gear faith leader is in perfect scale for the character. and it fits in perfect with other TF figures on display shelves.

Here is a thought....

Chances are very high that Takara will make an Ultra Magnus figure based on the MP-10 mold. Ultra Magnus based on MP-01 is really just white Optimus but the (possibly) upcoming Ultra Magnus based on the MP-10 should have the proper trailer/armor.

If you plan on getting a decent Ultra Magnus in the future then you may be better off getting MP-10 to go with it. Or, if Prime's trailer is of little concern to you, you might want to wait and see what Hasbro does with the MP-10 mold.

Personally, I have and like both figures. Each has positives and negatives. However, right now I prefer the MP-10 - especially in truck mode. Part of that might be because it is new but if I had to choose one it would be MP-10.

If you want the best pose-ability then MP-10 is the one for you. They have similar ranges of motions on the joints but the stop points in the ratchet joints are much closer together in the latest version. Also, his limbs wobble less and due to the lighter weight he's more stable.

:BOT: I just got MP-10 Convoy not long ago.

Here are some key points:
* Even more posable - improved
* Weight distribution - fixed
* Convoy's head even more accurate - improved
* Scale down size to fit in with the collection (voice by Japanese fans) - improved
* Gun can be store on figure (voice by Japanese fans)- fixed
* Alt-mode adjustment - improved
* Human figure fit in Convoy - improved
* Transformation - improved
* No electronics for a collector piece (a.k.a. No gimmic needed)

Negative side:
* Price point
* Less die-cast then MP-01 (for weight distribution reason)
* fingers less articulation

Totally loving this new mold. Great job Takara.
I can totally understand why Japanese fans voice their opinion about the size of the original Convoy. Fitting in with your other piece is a good idea however, more importantly... Space/storage~~~ In Japan or other Asian county where rooms are very limited. By scaling down, it helps Japanese collector with display space.

If you are a fan of large figures, get yourself a MP-01. You won't regret it.

I have the DVD edition they sold at Walmart. Some people complain about the red they used for this guy, but I love it.
