Non-Combining Classics Combiner Teams - What's Your Opinion?

I'm not sure if it was figures getting released (and combiners NOT getting released) or just an idea that sparked in my head, but at some point I decided to try and make Classics-verse, non-combining versions of all the combiner teams. It was an interesting exercise, and while I'm perfectly happy with my choices I'm curious as to what you guys think. Would you choose different? If so, who?

Pictures are included, and as a result this post is a little picture heavy. If you're curious to see these guys grouped together, check the link in my sig - they're in the later sections.

Also unfortunately they just haven't made decent versions of every character, or in some cases any character (I'm looking at you, Terrorcons  ) so not every team is listed. For anything that doesn't appear, it means I don't have any suitable ideas; for incomplete teams though, I'll list what I have.

**edit** Since TFU.info has an issue with hotlinking and unfortunately there are a couple of figures here not in the galleries, the images for those may not appear. For those, links are provided to the site at TFU.info**

Now without further rambling...

:BOT: **Autobot** :BOT:

-Aerialbots-

Silverbolt: Universe 2.0 Silverbolt

-Protectobots-

Hot Spot: Titanium Hot Zone

Streetwise: Classics 2.0 Prowl (to distinguish him from Prowl (who I use Henkei for) I keep both the doors and the missile launchers folded down)

Image

Image

Blades: Universe 2.0 Blades

Image

Image

**Note** The following two were added after the pictures in my collection thread were taken, so unfortunately you won't find them there.

First Aid: Cybertron Red Alert (Deluxe)

Image

Image

Groove: Animated Samurai Prowl (This was the hardest of the group; unfortunately there are really only a few good motorcycle figures, none of which look anything remotely like Groove. I kind of see this incarnation as Groove, given his pacifist ways, taking an interest in the calm, honor and strict moral code of ancient samurai, modeling himself after it. Better than having no Groove, right?)

Image

Image

-Technobots-

Scattorshot: Energon Jetfire

Image

Image

Lightspeed: Universe Swerve

Image

Image

Strafe: Henkei Strafe

Image

Image

Nosecone: Armada Hoist (Since there's no modern-era drill tanks, I figured this "update" made sense. The colors work, too.)

Image

Image

Afterburner: Cybertron Ransack (Even though he's a Decepticon, it fits too well)

Image

:CON: **Decepticons** :CON:

-Constructicons-

**Unfortunately, I've yet to really find any decent versions of these guys. Since I use the G2 combiners on my Shattered Glass shelf, given their colors I count these two among them.**

SG Mixmaster: Universe 2.0 Heavy Load

Image

Image

SG Hook: 2007 Movie Mudflap

Image

Image

-Combaticons-

Onslaught: Universe 2.0 Onslaught

Image

Image

Blast-Off: Machine Wars Soundwave (Inspired by his recent, multiple tank incarnations)

Image

Image

Brawl: Cybertron Demolisher

http://tfu.info/2006/Decepticon/Demolis ... lishor.htm

Image

Image

Swindle: Animated Swindle

Image

Image

Vortex: Energon Cyclonus (Specifically for his alt mode when combined with the minicon)

Image

Image

-Stunticons-

Motormaster: Robots in Disguise Scourge

Image

Image

Breakdown: BotCon 2010 G2 Breakdown

Image

Image

Wildrider: Henkei Wildrider

Image

Image

Drag Strip: HTS Exclusive Drag Strip

Image

Image

Dead End: RotF Dead End

Image

Image

-Predacons-

Razorclaw: BotCon 2009 Razorclaw

Image

Image

-Breastforce-

Leozack: BotCon 2009 Leozack

Image

Image

Gaihawk: Toy Dreams Project Powerlinx Thrust

Image

Image

Hellbat: 2007 Movie Overcast

Image

Image

Killbison: RotF Blast Off

Image

Image

Jaruga: HftD Crankstart

Image

Image

Drillhorn: 2007 Movie Unreleased Gunbarrel (Another drill tank. For this, and to distinguish him from Killbison up there, I usually mount his weapon on the front in a claw-like position. That way, he can still function (maybe?) as a drill tank-like thing.)

So that's it. Any ideas, on anything I've shown or not shown?

FYI, TFU.info does not like direct linking to their images (so-called hotlinking); the images will not appear unless they're already saved in your Temporary Internet Files.

Some imaginative repurposing going on there, nice work.

Although Fansproject have got you covered as far as a Classics Bruticus goes and Reprolabels do a good Dead End out of a ROTF-Swerve.

True, but... he's so tiny. If only they'd release the leader class version of that figure, in those colors - then it'd be perfect.

Oof, thanks for that. Had no idea, fixing now @_@

I agree with you, but I'm trying to limit the amount of movie toys in my collection; I'm just not a fan of the aesthetic. The only reason I submitted with RotF Dead End is that his head and visor are so boxy that it doesn't look too off, as long as you're only looking from the waist up. While I can't argue with Reprolabels' fantastic job, unless I found an alternate head it just doesn't work for me.

Funnily enough that's the same thing that stopped me from buying one too!

to me its a waste of space period. it does me little good to have homages of combiner charachters that dont combine.one of the main reasons i decided against the botcon set this year.
hasbro has got an ass load of pcc ports in a warehouse somewhere out there.im pretty sure they could make some decent combiners if they would take that step.

the reason legos and many building figures do wel is because kids like to "COMBINE THINGS" a tf combiner would make sense to me at least. >:oP

I agree. The only problem is that the engineers end up sacrificing things like size, posabiity or general appearance to get that combining feature in. If I had to choose I'd definitely go for combining over not, but my teams end up spending all their time in gestalt mode. This way I can keep both the gestalt AND the individual figures on display, looking better than they did originally and not have to start buying two of every team just for the same effect.

But, that's just what works for me. It is a bit of a space hog, but definitely worth it if you can make it work ;)

I'd like to throw in a couple suggestions and differing oppinions from my collection:

Stunticon Dead-End - I didn't like the movie version of Dead End - far too movieverse for my liking, so instead I went with ROTF Swerve with the Reprolabels update. I like the end result much better for my Classics, and he's in G1 colours.
Image

Breast Force Gaihawk - I turfed most of my Armada collection, so instead to match GaiHawk's flashy colours, I went with the KOToys Pink Starscream. He's the only version of that seeker mold I don't keep under Starscream's command.
Image

Breast Force Hellbat - Again, not liking the movie motif, I used PCC Darkstream which doesn't match the colours too well, but still has a nice stealthy-looking scheme.
Image

Breast Force Deathcobra - I noticed a lack of this character in your post; perhaps you don't view him as part of the combiner teams motif, but I think that the Unreleased Movie 2007 Reverb does a pretty darn decent job.

Most of my combiner teams are displayed in their team format rather than combined. Save for two or three.

I like your idea but i'm not itching for a gestalt team badly enough to get them with a sacrificing of the combination feature altogether.

It would torture me if they made the Terrorcons that couldn't form Abominus.

I also dis-like this.

I need more G-1 updated homage combiners new molds in 2012 thru 2013 for TF prime toys & generations.
