Who likes the Bigger sized TF toys more? Who likes the tiny sized TF toys more? Please state why.
What do I Consider tiny transformers toys? Minicons,Legends,Scouts,Basics,Deluxes.
What Do I consider bigger sized Transformers toys? Voyagers,$27 USA Ultra's,Leader sized TF toys. Supreme sized & ultimate TF toys. Combiners when in gestalt form.
SPECIAL NOTE: THIS IN MY OPINION,I STATE NOTHING AS FACT IN THIS THREAD.
My Two cents: Personally I love the bigger sized Transformers toys more. I've always been this way, since 1988,When I first started buying Transformers toys.
WHY? here's my reasons below in Numberical order.
1- I'm old school,I need my transformers toys really big. I grew up in the days of the giagantic voltron robots. the Takara Brave robots, the power rangers Zords. somehow it just seems wrong to have my transformers toys super tiny. my favorite TF toys from the 1980's were the combiners, city formers & really large TF toys like Sixshot,deathsauras,victoryleo,overlord,starconvoy,diatulas,etc...
2-Buying & playing with polly pocket sized Transformers was never my thing. I don't cram a few tiny TF toys with me on road trips,in my school book bag, while driving to work.
3- Transformers toys,I buy them because I view them as pure works of art. The Bigger sized TF toys like Voyagers,Ultra's & Leader sizes Hasbro/Takara caters them more towards older teenagers & adult fans. because their are more parts, their more complex in transformation, design, sculpt & have superior engineering.
4- The smaller a TF toy has less parts,is more simplier in design+engineering+transformation. for the most part Hasbro/Takara cater the smaller sized TF toys to the toddlers under the age of 4.
5- Some of the movie verse leaders sized toys were made so complicated, highly sculpted & superior engineered that Takara called them movie masterpiece TF toys.
6- I noticed the bigger sized TF toys are generally better porportioned compared to the tiny Transformers toys.
7- I like to Display my transformers toys on display shelves. needless to say the minicons, legends, basics, deluxes DON'T display well on display shelves. their either fall backward or forward. they need to have the hips adjusted, their knees bent a certain way just to hold their weight properly & display on a shelf without falling forward or backward. Most of the time the bigger sized TF toys have MORE stability on display shelves. the voyagers, ultras & leaders sized TF toys don't fall forward nor backward on display shelves.
8- Hasbro/Takara most of the time make the Sculpts/designs more adult, more scarry, less toddler looking for the bigger sized TF toys like voyagers,$27 usa ultra's & leader sized TF toys.
9- Masterpiece Transformers toys & alternators/Binaltech Hasbro/Takara catered towards adults fans & older teenage kids. that's the reason the Masterpieces & Alterntors were designed so complex in transformation, superior engineering. Serious adult themed design sculpts. bigger size aimed at older teenagers & adults. non-toddler themed color schemes.
10- Last but not least. The Bigger sized Transformers toys like voyagers, ultra's,leaders & Supremes,Represent Transformers media characters that are higher in rank & some of the have command type positions. those bigger TF toys with lower rank are usually really powerful & could take on a whole army, examples: Tidalwave,Trypticon.
I honestly don't like buying the tiny TF toys because their lower ranking,Less experienced persona's,or weaker media persona/strenght TF toys characters. I'm a big guy I'm 6 feet tall & I lift weights 5 days per week,I also have 4 years college & a high ranking type job position,I need my TF toys to match my persona.

Interesting you should post this now. Recently (last month) I just had a major shift in view/opinion of sizes. I used to love the honkin' huge TFs, had Leader Class sized figures all over. But for some reason, all of a sudden they became sort of repulsive to me. I hate to say it like that, but its the truth. I found myself walking into a room, and didn't even look at my big TFs, instead I went to all my Animated and Generations toys. Maybe because of lack of space they caused? No idea. The just seemed to be crowding me all of a sudden. Thus, in the last 4-5 weeks, I have sold off most of my big TFs. The only ones I have left are MP Rodimus, MP Grimlock, G1 Jetfire, Leader Ironhide, Brave Max, Armada Unicron, Overlord, and my kitbashed Omega Prime. Everything else I have is deluxe sized, except for a couple of Voyager Primes and Megatrons. The biggest Prime and Megatron toy I have now is the 10th anniversary Beast Wars 2-pack of Primal and Megatron. I also have Ultimate Prime and HftD Prime, but they're going on the auction block in the near future. The only Leader Class I'm still interested in getting is DotM Megatron, if he ever gets released. And this is not some "phase," I am 100% certain this is the way I want it to be. As far as I'm concerned, Deluxes rule. Few Voyagers are exception.

I prefer my TFs big and bad@ss!
I want my Tfs the size of G1 like old Optimus and Mega( the bad@ss leaders)
Deluxe(?) for other bad@ss guys like Jazz
The Seekers, surprisingly when in robot mode are the same size as the henkei Seekers.
This doesn't mean I dislike the current crop but there were henkei that deserved to be Ultra while others Scout (Skyfire and Powerglide) but with Takara/Hasbro sticking to a specific size class seems............wrong.

I like TFs having different sizes.
That's something to me, that's neat about TF's. Other toys everyone is about the same size. With transformers, what makes the big guys cool, is interacting with the little guys. Like having Masterpiece Grimlock next to a legends class guy is neat to me.
I like to have a diverse amount. I like smaller, but I can be picky about smaller. I don't care about minicons, picky with legends, but a good scout class figure I like.

Size really doesn't matter to me, as long as I can play with it and looks good when I display it.
Yes I realise how bad all that sounds, but someone was going to throw innuendo out there eventually.

I'll just copy and paste from your thread the parts that I agree with:
Tidalwavex wrote:3- Transformers toys,I buy them because I view them as pure works of art. Same here but I like to display them in scale-accurate sets so there's still a place for the smaller figures. I don't find they have stability issues, in fact, due to having a lower centre of gravity (and in the case of legends, almost no poseability) the smaller figures are more stable.

I'll also add that large figures look more impressive, although it seems that often deluxes have better articulation.

You call Deluxe figures "tiny"? I'm not sure you even know what that word means.

What if you bought an Ultra class figure, but it didn't cost $27? What if you bought the Takara version? ...although Takara did put out a couple "USA edition" ultras, but they weren't $27. What if you paid $27 for an Ultra, but it wasn't in the USA? Can we clear all this up so I can properly address the topic question? Thanks!

If I got an Ultra on clearance for $10, does it still count as "Bigger" or does it fall into the "tiny" category?

Personally, I like the deluxe and Voyager sized figures most. They take up less space on my shelves, are usually much less blocky, and most of the figures would be in scale with eachother. There are of course exceptions, such as Omega Supreme or Trypticon who need to be in larger form. And on the other scale would be Scout-class figs when they're awesome enough such as windcharger and rumble/frenzy.
I think I'm going to get rid of many of my legends figures. They just don't display well compared to others on my shelves.

I think of Deluxe as the standard and everything else scales around that. Take the Movie cast: Hot Rod is a Deluxe, Wheelie is a Legends, Magnus is a Voyager (with Fansprojects upgrade armors the scaling actually gets better) while Unicron is a Supreme. Since Hasbro only scales to themselves, Galvatron is as tall as Hot Rod with Cyclonus being a bit taller and Scourge a bit smaller but all still Deluxes. The combiners are all nice and big without being so big as to be the same size as E Omega Supreme or Unicron.
Now, when you talk about how tall you are, I am reminded of a friend of mine 10 or so years ago the very first time he saw MP-01 Optimus in my apartment. He was one of those with nostalgia goggles that convinced himself that he had that exact toy as a kid in 1984. One of his arguments was that it was the same size he remembered it and I had to point out that he had more than doubled in size since then. So your favorite scale at any given age may be relative to your given size at that age. G1 Optimus Prime is only bit bigger than a Deluxe now while the Ultra Magnus I got when I was 6 went from as long as my arm (elbow to fingertip) to a little bigger than my shoe. I remember Metroplex being about as big as Fortress Maximus is now. And no series was ever just Leader class and Supreme class toys. The closest thing to that is the Battle Stars series from 1991 which consisted of 3 large toys (Star Convoy, Grandus, and Sky Garry) and 1 Micromaster combiner totaling less than a dozen toys on the shelf, 75% of them being Micromasters.
They can put out one maybe two larger toys a year until they just lose the balance needed to have a strong presence in the increasingly cluttered toy aisle. The Classics lines aren't up to having Leader or Supreme. The new Unicron doesn't really count as a Classics/Generation toy in the aisle (even in Canada where it's actually in stores) but it's going strong enough to keep coming back after getting hamstrung by movie after movie. Eventually, I think we'll see an Omega Supreme, Metroplex or Trypticon. The Prime series being fit in with the Generations is a good sign that they're hoping to expand the line as a whole. As long as the price of oil and plastics don't get much worse, we will get bigger toys. But Deluxe with still be the base size.

I agree with you about Transformers being real work of art and engeneering. And yes, most leader class TF are geared toward a more mature audience, even if it say 5+ on the box. However, don't generalise because many bigger TF are more suited to toddles than the smaller ones. Cybertron Supreme Starscream (love him!) is huge but transform like a legend figure. Supreme Animated Optimus Prime IS a toddler toy. Ultimate Movie Bumblebee is too.
Tidalwavex wrote:4- The smaller a TF toy has less parts,is more simplier in design+engineering+transformation. for the most part Hasbro/Takara cater the smaller sized TF toys to the toddlers under the age of 4.
See above. Also, many deluxes are really complex in transformation like Cybertronian Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
Tidalwavex wrote:7- (...) Most of the time the bigger sized TF toys have MORE stability on display shelves. the voyagers, ultras & leaders sized TF toys don't fall forward nor backward on display shelves.
Ultra Beast Machine Blackarachnia cannot stand by herself. She's so back heavy that she must lean against the wall. Honestly, that's the only figure that have trouble standing. The rest, no matter the size stand and pose just fine.
Tidalwavex wrote:9- Masterpiece Transformers toys & alternators/Binaltech Hasbro/Takara catered towards adults fans & older teenage kids. that's the reason the Masterpieces & Alterntors were designed so complex in transformation, superior engineering. True, but give the Alternity line a shot. They are DELUXE size, have diecast everywhere, high quality paint and details, rubber tires, transform like leaders, and are oh so expensives. All in deluxe size! I have Optimus Prime and Starscream, Starscream being my favorite.
Tidalwavex wrote:10- "PAWAAAAAA"
I care more about the toy than the character and story. Except when Optimus Prime or Starscream are incolved. Anyway, I like great vehicle mode, great robot mode, and fun transformation. No matter what is the character's place in the TF universe. Maybe that's why I have not so much Megatrons.
Anyway, I personally prefer Voyager size TF and above myself. I do appreciate the Deluxes a lot too, because, well, they are the majority and I cannot ignore them. However, I mostly pass on Scouts and Legends. Exeption for Optimus Prime, Starscream, and the occasional tiny masterpiece like DotM Commander Decepticon Hatchet.
My favorite class is Leader class, where the bot are at their best. I really love the Supreme and ultimate too because they breathe power. Ultimate Optimus Prime is so cool holding Backfire in gun mode!
I wish they could bring back the Ultra class too. Universe Onslaught is pretty boss.

I added the $27 USA ultra. because their was this one austrailan Seibertron.com member a year ago saying he pays double or more for ultra's. then he got confused & was trying to call voyagers as beastwars ultras.
A $27 usa ultra size toy is as follows: classics 2.0 ultra sized silverbolt. classics 2.0 Onslaught, classics 2.0 powerglide.

If Hasbro/Takara ever returns them Ultra class toys, make sure the character h're representing is worth the price.
Remember henkei/classics?
Skyfire a Voyager while Powerglide was frickin' huge! Seems like a mixed sense of priorities.

I like the majority/base size to be Deluxe, with many characters being smaller (Scout size is ideal for the more rank and file types, Legends should be for Minibots and the sort, Minicons seem like pets or accessories) with a few of the more imposing characters as Voyagers or above. Unless we're talking about Omega Supreme, or a city-bot (or Unicron!) I don't need to be paying Leader/Supreme money. I find the smaller size (and price) makes it more affordable to get a bigger number of characters and they take up less space.

I tend to find TFs smaller than Deluxe-sized to be the most fun to fiddle with; they're quick to transform or pose. They're also cheaper, of course.
And since they aren't nearly as much of an investment on HasTak's part, things like 'true' gesalt teams and multiple, individualized Action Sets are possible.

Honestly, I agree with a lot that has been said. I really like the leader class figures, as long as they scale well (*ahem* Bumblebee *ahem*) and I am a very big fan of HA. Yet figures like ROTF Leader Megatron don't have much fun in them since they are too easy to transform and aren't very articulate in that sense, unlike the Prime and Starscream counterparts. That said, I like the voyager, HA, leader and Ultra for scaling.
On the other hand, I like some of the designs, simplicity, fun, and storage uses for my scout class, minicon, Deluxe, and PCC figures. So I like them all, but I'd prefer an HA Bumblebee verses deluxe or legends any day.

When I was a kid, bigger was always better, for the sheer awesomeness of size. I dreamed of getting a G1 Scorponok but knew it would never happen at a $100 price tag.
Then 20 years passed and...
When I started buying the movie and Universe toys in 2008, I liked Deluxes best because they seemed to give the best bang for your buck. The smaller toys (Legends and Scouts) are always overpriced for their size and complexity. The larger toys lack a lot of the articulation of Deluxes, or at least they used to--Movie 1 Optimus and Ultimate Bumblebee were very disappointing to me.
Over time my feelings changed as certain toys impressed me, and I started feeling more like I did as a kid. Now I have several large Transformers, including a used Cybertron Primus, Cybertron Supreme Starscream, ROTF Leader Starscream and Optimus, and all of the Human Alliance toys.
But I also like tiny transformers and am fascinated by things like Smallest Transformers and minicons, and I like the interaction between robots of different sizes and like some amount of scale going on in my collection. It's cool to have robots on the same scale to battle each other, but it's also cool when one robot can use another as its weapon, or one robot can tower over all the others 'cause he's frikkin' BIG.
In sum: I look for interesting, well-thought-out designs, lots of articulation, solid construction, and play value.

Generally I like bigger figures, but there are a few small ones that are among my favorites. I'd say I'm 60-40 in favor of the big ones.

Exactly. The whole Transformers world, in my opinion, would be boring without the smaller Transformers, I just don't like the small versions of larger ones. (Legends class Starscream or Optimus

Prefer Deluxe and Voyagers my self. As space is limited, I can display more Deluxes per shelf than I can the larger figures.
Also, the Deluxe price is preferable and lately Deluxes are more complex than the larger figures.
