Bad Paint Apps= Good

So we all know that bad paint applications can completely or severely ruin a toy. However, has anyone had a toy were a misapplied paint app made the toy better, worth getting again, or just cooler?

For example, the RTS Lugnut I recently got had some misapplied paint on his eye, which made his head look like it had been shot up, so he had carbon-scoring. Really cool mistake in my opinion.

That's not what we're talking about: we're talking paint, not plastic colors ;)

I remain fairly neutral about messed up paint, but I'd rather have an excess of paint anywhere than lack of. In my own little way, I see mistakes as a personal identifier.

That does add a nice little bit of flash to it like he just smashed through a tanker and it exploded on him. Nice.

Another one I like is the G1 override's gun tip and barrel having red showing through the silver. I remember getting mine this way because it looked like his gun was charging up.

I'm on the opposite end of things when it comes to messed up paint. I am especially anal about paint flaws, especially on a figure's face. I have returned and exchanged figures on this issue alone. I know maybe I'm expecting too much but I consider the face a focal point to which the eye is immediately drawn, and since I only display them in robot mode it would drive me crazy every time I looked at them if at least the faces weren't right.

You know how Sidearm Sideswipe's transformation causes his forehead paint to partially scrape off? Well, I didn't know that and thought the shiny/dull pattern on his forehead was meant to evoke the cyberglyphic tattoo over his face, like the HA figure.

Do mold defects or damage count too? My RotF Scout Insecticon has a incomplete spike on one of his arms. It's as if the protusion had broken off, but no stress marks are visible and the spike is too short and thick to just snap. It's no big deal since he's got three intact ones. I might paint it to appear damaged.

And my Movie Landmine is missing one of his eyes, there's a milky smaller eye behind it. Looks pretty creepy together with his three healthy eyes and the hockey mask.

I did not know that about Sidearm Sideswipe. That's cool. The Landmine defect sounds awesome! Yes, mold defects count too.

I am right there with you my friend! A figure's face, especially with my galleries, is a very important aspect of the toy to me. I'm on the hunt for a new Encore Optimus Prime right now because there's a flaw on his face shield.

Ruins the whole darn figure, doesn't it? :-(

When I buy a figure and find that the paint is scratched (which happened recently with TFP Starscream), rather than let it bother me, I just tell myself it's "battle damage".
