I had to choose my favorite transformer when joining and put Scorponok because I'm trying to complete my G1 but was just thinking how Magnaboss is probably my favorite toy (not my favorite character since I've never seen it on tv). Many thousands of hours and decades of transforming and that one is the only one I know of that takes 45 minutes AND directions!! Most of them take about three seconds.

He's a nice combiner, but I wouldn't call him the greatest personally.
And you can do Alternator Grimlock/Wheeljack in under 45 mins without referencing instructions?

There's no way alternators are easy, heck even 2010 Voyager Class Battle Blades Optimus Prime takes me at least 30 minutes with instructions.
But it's true that combiners can be tough. Beast Wars was the first series notorius for difficult transformations.

I'd hardly call Magnaboss good, great or anywhere close to the greatest Transformer ever. He's barely a step above Tripredacus and he's crap. The Beast Wars combiners are undeniably fiddly and require excessive amounts of force to lock certain connections because of it. If I remember correctly, Skywarp/Silverbolt is made primarily of GPS too, scary.
If I absolutely had to state what I think the greatest TF ever is, I'd be forced to say G1 Optimus Prime. He embodies everything a great TF should and he's likely the most iconic as well.

Some people can transform their figures easier than others, I guess. I got alternators wheeljack, and it took me 15 minutes to transform the first time. I transform him at roughly 7-8 minutes now, depending on how many times the doors pop off. I bought him loose, 100% complete, no instructions.

Well you're not really transforming him if the doors are popping off now are you?

Magnaboss? Not... really. Certainly not even the best combiner.

Okay guys, you had me curious so I looked it up on Ebay. Turn out a Korean version of the dynamic trio is only 50$ shipped. Judging from the pictures, the thing look totally AWESOME.
But after seeng JTMitchell87's video review, it look like the eagle 'bot, silverbolt, kinda suffer from the infamous GPS. That is really unfortunate because this look like a very cool and interesting TF. I wonder if the Korean version have the GPS fixed on Silverbolt?
I may have to pass on this very cool, very tribal looking thing....

This^. I love my Tripredicus, though I used Telemocha Gimlet and Telemocha Motorarm for mine along with Cicadacon. It made for a really nifty looking combo .

Agreed. Magnaboss is by far my favorite Beast Wars combiner, and one of my favorite combiners of all time, right up there with big Herc.

Tripredacus is a neat one but much simpler and you don't really need the instructions.

Just looked at Magnatron review. I'm gonna pass on this one because each beast componets don't become robot modes on their own. Also, the huge "sheild" kibble.
Edit:
Just saw the Tripredacus review. Man that... thing is HORRIBLE looking in ALL it's modes.
Magnaboss is the clear winner. He have great looking beast and robot modes. The combiner mode is awesome looking just because he look so much like a tribal cavemen.
I'm defenitely going to buy him.

I'm not familiar with the letters GPS but I've never had problems with the toy except it is spectacularly complicated. I bought two of them when they came out and gave one to my kids but of course that one ended up being given away at some point. Aren't most of the rip offs pretty junky? With how complicated it is I imagine a crap version would fall to pieces on the first transformation. I'll have to look it up but I thought most of the beast wars original merchandise doesn't cost much.

Why does that matter?
I don't need the instructions for any of the transformers I have. Once I do it, I know it.
Still I think tripredacus is one of the best combiners ever. Each one has a very solid beast mode, their robot modes may be lacking a bit, but they're still decent. Then his combined form is really nice and monstrous and well put together.
Magnaboss is...eh. Only prowl is decent from that bunch, and even he isn't that great. Silverbolt is like, all wings, ironhide is goofy looking, except in elephant mode.

GOLD PLASTIC SYNDROME
Older transformers suffer from that the gold or bronze plastic tend to SHATTER LIKE GLASS just by looking at it over time. Just imagine a joint made out of the thing.
And a video showing it in action. (I have Randy and he WILL stay in it's box. 10$ MIB shipped. Now I know why.)
When buying a very expensive and old TF like Blackzarrak, be very aware of that fact.

It matters only because the main reason Magnaboss is such a neat toy is the transformation complexity. I also think it's a much nicer looking toy though my personal preference is crayfish and rhinoceros beetles (see image). I highly doubt you'd have much success without instructions if you haven't changed your Magnaboss recently. It's not about pulling pieces off and reconstructing like legos for some transformers.

I don't think I would have any trouble at all, and you're awfully presumptuous to assume I would. It's complexity does nothing to make it a better toy. It's really not that complicated. You give it too much credit.

I had Tripredacus combined for a while and when I wanted to put them back into beast mode Ramhorn was a real bizatch. I literally just put him down and walked a way for a few days. But his combined mode is so solid and I love the face. It's such a unique figure
I never really wanted a Magnaboss, there is kibble everywhere. But the tusks that wrap around the head look nice and the sword is killer.
Ok, Tripredacus has loads of kibble, but he seems more streamlined.

Even knowing what was going to happen(but only from reading about GPS, I've never actually seen it until now), my heart still palpated a little when he gave Randy a squeeze and it just fell apart.
I can only imagine the shock someone who has no idea about GPS would go through the first times something like that happened to them.

Especially after buying a 3700$ Black Zarak and trying to transform him.

But you don't KNOW so it's you who is awfully presumptuous. This is the point where you should feel pretty foolish but I imagine you won't.

His shield is not a kibble, it can be taken down from his arm. Also, he is supposed to be an individual robot who has three bodies, not an old-style "real" combiner, more like Omega Supreme.
