MP MEGATRON

Just picked up MP Megatron at a local toy shop MIB. Does anyone have MP Megatron and does anyone have any major complaints i.e. does it break easily, loose joints, etc.?

Haven't opened it yet and not sure that I will. What do you all think?

He has some great things and some not so great thing about him.

Great- As an MP to display, he looks fantastic. Tall, mean-looking, cartoon-accurate. The gun mode is very detailed. His joints are very tight.

Not so great- He is a pain to transform. Tight joints combined with intricate movement of parts and how they all fit together makes for a long project. His metal feet also tend to discolor. Mine have turned the color of rust.

I opened mine, transformed him once, and put him on display in bot mode. He looks great next to the other MP's.

what SJ21 said. Menacing, but a pain to pose.

Apply clear lacquer to his feet and that should prevent them from rusting away. Do it now. Don't wait.

Why are you still reading my comment? Go and get the lacquer and do it now.

I have it and like it. Also picked up the accessories made by Justitoys (I believe) and am very happy with how it adds to the gun mode (and the cannon mode is great too).

But beware: be careful when you transform him. The shoulder and the tabs on the handle of the gun (that hook into the chest) have been known to break if you apply too much pressure. Also there are tabs on the legs that I worry will break if I'm not too careful.

But I've transformed him quite a few times and haven't broken mine. Also note: the feet don't really rust; they tarnish. By now yours might very well be tarnished in the box; it's a flaw with all the figures.

Yeah, MP prices for brittle plastic and rusting parts.

And.....the Sightscope/Arm Cannon is way to big even at this scale - It makes even standing him with the canon attached a lopsided pain and will overbalance his rusting little feet in time.

Keep him in MP mode. Use the G1 version as the "gun mode". Save you a whole bunch of trouble.

Yeah, this is what I did. He looks great... but he's got flaws. I hope they do a new version of him like they did with MP Prime.

I'd love to see a redesign of Megatron that's in scale with MP-10, has either a less over-sized fusion canon or at least an extra smaller canon for bot mode that doesn't weigh him down.

That said, the whole orange cap thing puts me off the idea of a gun alt mode for him.

The orange cap comes off very easily.

Good to hear, although I've read rumors of orange caps that were glued to the barrel in some cases. Scary.

My major complaint is the poor shoulder articulation and lack of bicep swivel. Legs aren't well articulated either. He's definitely worth opening though.

Well, the gun mode is super accurate in all but scale. Transformation took about a little less than an hour; he's got some rather soft plastic in his hips which I was afraid I'd snap if I forced it too much.

Transformed him just once, and left him in bot mode next to MP-1.

If it's soft it won't snap! Those hip panels pop off very easily, I don't think there's danger of that part breaking.

Go on - try it! You're missing out of several hours of fun and agro. They should use him for a mensa test.

One disadvantage I'd say is, well since an import and I can't judge how helpful the manuals are, if it were in English, maybe no danger of breaking him. The USA Hasbro versions of any modern TF btw are as useful as a sheet of cr@p paper.

MP-5 Megatron is my favorite figure in my small robot collection, which is a little over 220 at this point.

I don't transform him much though, as I've broken one of the tabs on his legs that connects to the chest in gun-mode. I'm scared the other one will break too. So, I am very careful with him.

Luckily, I was able to purchase mine un-modded, with no orange plug glued in the barrel.

And don't forget that MP Megatron comes with Kremzeek! :KREMZEEK:

They don't have that orange plug policy in Asia, and since it's a Japanese product, non-American/Australian[?] collectors can own the figure in its original state.

The manuals aren't too hard to understand. If all else fails I'm sure there's a video or something that'll help confused people out.

You just have to be real careful with getting the legs out of gun mode.

He's by far the worst of the MP line IMO. The tiny delicate plastic tabs that break waaaaaaaaaaay too easily. His cannon is too big and heavy. I used to have him posed with his cannon raised until one day the arm gave out and now it won't hold up the weight of the cannon. The feet on mine are a little tarnished, but it's overshadowed by all the other faults the figure has.

I like him, but welcome the new scaled version assuming the bot will be more accurate.
