It's been two years since the first reissue, demand for him seems to be high and he's fetching a pretty penny on the aftermarket now. Since HasTak is keeping going with Classics/Henkei style product, it would seem like it would make sense for Takara to put out the big boss again, especially if they're going to keep going with United for non-movie, non-Prime figure releases.

(Admittedly I have ulterior motives; I already have a couple, but I'll want to pick up at least two more if Xovergen's Powermaster-ish trailer does not totally suck.)

A great modernized version of Optimus (especially like the head sculpt).

But according to JZGR, the mold has shown signs or deteriorated already.

So far, the Classics Voyager Optimus Prime mold has been used for:

- Classics
- Classics Ultra Magnus
- Henkei
- Henkei Clear
- Henkei reissue
- Universe 2008 Nemesis Prime
- BotCon 2008 Shattered Glass Optimus Prime

...within a time span of 2 years. I've seen reports on panels and other parts not aligning properly on the last two releases, so I think that's the reason why the mold has been retired, and Takara uses the Deluxe mold for United instead,

I was lucky enough to snatch an authentic Henkei version (possibly the reissue, can't tell), loose but complete for €50 or around $65 a week or two ago. So they are still out there, you just need to be patient and know where to look,

That mold does not fit Prime very well, sure, it looks badass in Shattered Glass and Nemesis colors... but prime colors just don't work for me.

Maybe its because of the angled shoulder pads, and the door sticking off him arm...

I much prefer the deluxe mold...

True, but bot mode is what he always stays in, and still scales nicely with all the Generations/ RTS deluxes.

Absolutely! Any excuse to buy that mold again, I love it that much! In fact I'm willing to state that it's my all-time favorite version of Optimus Prime, kibble and all!

classics prime and starscream are what me buying transformers again.....had not bpught one since season 1 beast wars....

I like classics megs to despite the colors wings and unibrow.

That being said, while I will agree that the alt mode is a bit crap, I don't share the hate that a lot of people have for the Deluxe one and will admit to owning one myself.

Yeah, I don't like some of the angular stuff and arm kibble on Classics Voyager, but the other one is too small and altmode is garbage. But if you just care about robot mode, he's pretty nifty.

Then there's RTS G2 OP, also cool, but also not without issues.

First, Deluxe Classic OP is total garbarge. Well, not totally because the robot mode is nice, but the alt-mode is very important for me. That truck mode make MP-01 look like... a masterpiece!

Second, I bought a Classic Henkei voyager Prime MIB for around 80$ shipped. He's good, but not 80$ good. Especially after seeing this:



Anyway, what we need is a TOTALY DIFFERENT MOLD. A mold that would look like a G1 Optimus Prime of voyager size, with a flat-nosed truck mode. Both modes should look great, and please, please, no silly panels hanging off his arms this time.

I love the Voyager mold, heck I love the arm panels too. Kinda like dual shields. The Deluxe? The robot mode is... rather underrated, but the alt mode is still awful.

By comparison I do agree... still doesn't mean MP-01 will ever look good AS a masterpiece, at least in my opinion.

Owning one of these molds in the long term will mean melting paint on those panels anyway... believe me, I got henkei Convoy solely because Classics Optimus' was having paint issues, and after awhile I had to go over them with some clear coat out of paranoia. The only one that doesn't have trouble is Ultra Magnus.

Just a bit of shameless self promotion here, but gavinfuzzy's love of the Deluxe Class mold inspired me to give it another look myself for my website's latest review. (And, of course, my very first review was for the Voyager Class one.)
