Enhancing PRID Knock Out

I was thinking about how I could enhance Knock Out for when I get him (god knows when that'll be >.>) but I've been trying to look at different images and seen as many reviews I could find to make him look just right. I found some pictures of his character model and the toy to make some comparisons.

Robot mode - I'm sure small details such as the yellow highlights on the elbow, knee, and wrist joints could help here as well as the white bit on the bottom part of the hood. Painting the window could be nice too, as well as making the lowest shoulder spikes red and white. Maybe a more silvery-color on the upper arms as opposed to the same gray as the legs.

I used misterfanwank's picture because I think he did the best job of positioning the head/torso to be the most screen accurate. I tried to do the best I could of not getting his hands in with him :/

Car Mode -Rims. Desperately rims. I feel like the car isn't KO without the gold rims. Minor details such as the yellow vent bits on the doors and the middle of the grill would help also.

On the backside... everything besides the molding is desired. There's the white bits above the exhausts, the exhausts themselves, and the whole taillight bar thing.

I also think the figure could use some solid black paint/stickers over the windows. I just think it'd look nice.

Overall, I think a reprolabels set for this guy would be a GODSEND. Not sure if they do wheels, though, so they might need painting. I'm really looking forward to owning him, and I know he has potential to be great with the right amount of attention and affection (from repro haha)

As I said before, I'm sure that when Reprolabels first saw the final version of this figure, they started rubbing their hands together with Dollar signs in their eyes.

It's just so strange that Knock Out has the precise molding to match his Show counterpart, but none of the paint apps! The only gold that was even used was on his hood, for that weird ventilation detailing.

I'm holding out for a sticker set from Repro, since they did such a fantastic job with Optimus and Wheeljack.

I have full faith in repro for the majority because I think KO has potential to be a goldmine once people see him transformed properly. I just don't recall ever seeing reprolabels do rims :(

While true, you never know. Maybe they'll think up something sneaky. In the meantime, the best way to take care of the yellow bits is likely some good paint and a fine brush. :)

They've made rim decals for several figures! Classics Blurr got chrome rims, and so did PrimeRID Wheeljack.

I've never bought reprolabels but if they made kick butt ones for KO I'd get both them and the figure in a heart beat. Until then... I'm not sure I want to spend the money on the figure :/

Though if I was ever to break down and take a brush to one, it would be KO. Reposables sound like they'd be easier however (and probably a hell of a lot nicer given my lack of experience painting figurines).

I just went and looked and indeed the wheel stickers do look nice. However, I don't think either Blurr or Wheeljack's wheels have the molded detail KO does.

It would be tough, but they could do it. They could just use 5 strips for each of the lines on the rim, and a circle for the center. They had 4 pieces per wheel for Wheeljack, so it's not impossible.

there's those gold pens you get for writing gift tags and stuff (and some folks use them for autographs) might work well enough if it's just the rims you're after.

I definitely thought about it, but unless I see other people try it first I don't wanna try it on the one I get. After all, I'll probably only get one.

And I though the wheels might be the most important part, smaller details such as colored kneecap spikes and eblow stuff and the shoulders/underside of the bumper are important too

I've got the perfect color yellow paint for those rims. I'm going to have to get it in hand (on its way from BBTS already) to see what I can do about the rest. I need to make the red much darker and that purple really needs a touch up.

I'm not sure if I'll mess with the details on the bot mode or not as I plan on primarily displaying him in vehicle mode.

I'll have to get a new camera before I can. The cheapy one I bought crapped out on me and won't even turn on any more :(.

I got KO in hand today from BBTS. I haven't painted him yet, but I still feel he needs it (that red is far brighter than it is on the show and that purple needs some more 'purple' and less gray and needs to be metallic). He also needs some chrome/silver along the sides of the front fenders/bumper and his windows need to be blacked out.

Now, all that being said, I transformed him without referring to the instructions (which I've been told are wrong) and all I can say is WOW :D! It actually looks really really good and far closer to his show model than I thought it would.

I clipped the front fenders into place on his chest so that they're at a slightly downward angle and got them pushed in as close together as I could and I did up his arms as best I could to emulate the look on the show and he looks pretty darn show accurate (aside from the obvious issues with paint apps and the missing yellow fins inside the chest pieces).

OK, I got him painted up but I didn't do the bit of silver on the front fenders yet and didn't touch the tail lights, however I did deepen the red on him, metallized the purple a bit, painted the rims yellow and painted a clear red over some of the purple towards the back so that it fades from purple to maroon (I believe that's how it is on the show) and I blacked out the windshield and side windows. I'll likely do the same with the rear windshield (which Hasbro has painted in purple) but I haven't gotten to it just yet.

I painted his bot mode head a bit, but didn't take pictures of it yet as most of my work is focused on the car mode. All I had to take pics with was my cell phone so the pics aren't too great.
