San Fran residents: Any cool stores I should check out when I'm there?

I'll be in San Fran for a few days next week, and was thinking, since it's on the West Coast and has a large Asian population, there might be some cool import shops I should check out. Is there anything like that in San Fran?

I don't live there, but I've visited often(when I lived in Cali and now that my parents live there). It's hit or miss, but the toy/model store in Japantown sometimes has stuff.

I actually wouldn't recommend japantown. As a collector, you may just be insulted. Sometimes you can get lucky, but for the most part, they're very touristy, with high prices and a wide selection. It may be worth it to kill some time, and see some stuff, but don't expect too anything worth buying. I don't go there often because I know I can get things online for cheaper.

Thanks, guys. Where is "Japantown"? Is that a section of the city, like Chinatown? How would I find it?
I'll check it out, but I'll keep in mind that the stuff may be overpriced.

Uh.. Kind of hard to say how I'd find seeing as how I know exactly where it is.
It's pretty well marked, if you can get yourself to the area. It's a big plaza center. If you were somewhere in SF right now I could give you directions. It's not too far from 101, so it's not difficult to get to. Will you be on foot, have a car, or what?

Thanks!
I put three stores on my itinerary: Japantown Collectibles in the Kinokuniya Bldg and jpnTOYS and Moritaya in the Kintetsu Mall.

Good luck, GI. You should post your findings when you get back from your trip!

No problems. My wife will be at a congress in SF next year, and I will be accompanying her, so I'm very much interested in what your experiences are.

If I find anything cool, I'll take pictures, even if I don't buy. But I'm hoping to come home with at least one souvenir.
