did I do the right thing?

Like many of you in the community, I grew up playing with transformers, I only had a couple, two or three the most; sadly, I still remember how I lost them. My interest in transformers started again with the movies and now I’m a big sucker for the movieverse figures. I really like the classics but at this point in my life would be bit too late and too expensive trying to acquire any of those 80’s classics figures so I have to settle down for those figures that do homage to the classics like the Generations and some Reveal The Shields series or repaints from the movie series that do homage to the classics as well.
Yesterday, on my way to the mall to pick something for my wife for mother’s day and our 11th year anniversary, I stopped by Toys R’ Us in the area just for the heck of it and saw something I thought I would never see: Toys R’s Exclusive Hasbro Masterpiece Rodimus Prime with Limited Edition offshoot. I never owned a Masterpiece figure and never thought I would get one, their price (at least what I seen online) somehow discourages me but as soon as saw it, I did not let go, something about the figure that takes me back to the 80’s. It looks like a lot of people had handled the box/toy because it had a few scratches and some parts of the box had some minor scratches but the box is in good condition to be displayed in the box if that is what I end up doing at the end which I doubt.
As the box had a few scratches, I inquired with customer service and they told me that the figure had been discontinued and they did not have any more. I paid $ 69.99 for it but now I ask myself, did I do the right thing? I did a bit of research from the Transformer aisle at the store and decided to buy it but I’m not sure how good of a figure it is?
Here are some pics (by the way, this is my first time posting images):

Is it worth it to you? Does it make you happier than having the $70 in hand? If yes then you made the right decision. I for one never saw one at either of my Toys R Us's around here. I paid $100 for mine and I was happy.

Well, it is a good figure. A bit delicate for a Masterpiece. You paid original retail for it which isn't too bad and nobody had opened it to take his Targetmaster out and returned it (which was ridiculously common) and everything looks good to go. I say open him up and display away! Just know this: is opening it, you more than likely destroy the package so it's an all or nothing situation. I say if you like it, you did the right thing. Nice find.

I just got mine last night. It's marked down to $79 USD here, and i used some vouchers and paid around $30 for mine. Quite happy with it, but it's insanely fidgety, and somehow, it does not look like a masterpiece to me. Perhaps it's the lack of boxy parts in both modes, that makes it look more like an oversized revoltech or something... Still a decent figure, though I would not recomend transforming it too often... Or at all! It took me an hour on my 1st try to put it into car mode.

I'd say that's a good price if you want to play with him. He has very limited shoulder articulation which is quite easy to fix but he's still a good figure.

Sweaty hands? Not wanting to let go? Got the money to spare? I say go for it and enjoy. Remember, though... MP's aren't for playing, they're for display.

Nice pickup there! I never saw these guys at retail. I bought mine from Hasbro Toy Shop. What a pain that was.
As a display, that figure looks great. Open him up and enjoy.

If you don't regret the decision to buy him the answer is yes you did do the right thing.

If you're regretting it at all, you didn't do the right thing.
I just bought leader class sentinel prime the other day for 40 bucks, he's great, I love him. Then I just saw him somewhere else for 30 bucks. I though, whatever though, I'm glad I got him, and what if I didn't see him? So, no regrets. I'm happy with him. If you're not happy with a purchase, take him back. Toys are for fun, not stress.

So long as you have the money to spare and don't have to miss the bills, go without eating for a few days, or something like that, there is no right or wrong here.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, MAN?!
Be glad you did not post this on 4chan's /toy/ because an angry mob with torches and pitchforks will be hot on your blood!
Why the hell do you care this much about a stupid box? If you want a beautiful box, there's lots of things that cost way less money and come with more beautiful box than that, you know.
You are not a Transformers lover, you are a box lover.
Jesus, after all these years, one would assume you would have open him out of that pointless box and tried your hand at transforming him... Leaving that figure in it's box is like just starring at 80$ you left in a glass without touching it. It's pointless.
Even more so after all these years without anf Transformers.
Okay, I'll end my rant here.
Now for the real advices.
MP Rodimus is a very dificult toy to transform. You were 100% right to pick him right up. But before transforming this beast, try your hands on cheaper deluxes and voyager figures. Be sure to follow the instructions. If you are stumped, look at some video reviews on youtube.
THEN open MP Roddy and enjoy him as it is meant to be.
By the way, what are your childhood's Transformers? Maybe yours are not too popular, which make them not too expensive, or maybe they got reeissues.
Just look them up, you may be surprised.

Do you think that the figure was overpriced, and you feel guilty for spending so much?
It's a great toy, worth the pennies. I play with mine all the time. He's a little delicate, but the best things in life are.
He poses well, looks GREAT in both modes, and is a masterpiece of engineering and design.
I get a tingly nostalgic feeling when I look at him, and it makes me happy.
If you appreciate these things (or others) and owning/playing with the toy makes you happy, you did the right thing.
