DOTM Voyager Ironhide-Good toy?

At the local Walmart-or one of them-I've seen him marked down to 15 bucks. And that's before my employee discount. So just wondering if he's good or not.

I waited till the G1 repaint to get him. I like him. Nice size. Wish he was bulkier though, but movie-(in)accuracy aside, he's an epic mold. I recommend him.

I got the red one at Wal Mart's discount, but I don't really like him. The entire upper body is pretty crappy, IMO. There's a place where it looks like the chest is supposed to peg into, but you can't get it there. It still manages to stay in place with friction, but I'm not sold on that. Also the arms are way too small and badly-positioned. It's hard to get the front wheels completely hidden, and the door kibble just kind of hangs there. However, it looks AWESOME in truck mode. So there's that.

DotM voyager IH is one of my absolute favorite movie figures. He is by far the most accurate movie IH mold, as well as the most stable and poseable. If he has any faults it's that, like all DotM toys, he's small for a voyager and his enormous mechtech weapon is not movie accurate (but I think it looks pretty awesome). I really don't understand the negative reaction towards him. He's far superior to the original to the original voyager mold (inaccurate, unstable, enormous detatchable truck backpack) and leader Ironhide (kibbly, inaccurate, and out of scale if that's something that matters to you). One tip - unlike his movie appearances, his legs look long and spindly out of the box, but you can make him look squat like he is in the movies if you collapse his double jointed knees.

Highly recommended.

I kept hearing that this mold had issues with the arms falling out at the shoulders due to a badly designed friction pin. Is this true? It was the principal reason I passed on buying him.

I have no issues with mine. One thing that I do is rotate his upper arms so that they bow out instead of in. Looks much better and helps with articulation.

Good to know.

I might pick up the red one then. The color will make it distinctly different from my other 'hides.

I suppose one important thing to note with my previous post is that this is my first and only Movie Ironhide figure, so I don't have a previous version to compare it to, it's standing on its own merits. If it makes some improvements on the old mold, then that's good, too.

I still wouldn't buy him for 5! I prefer the 07 mold.

I agree, the '07 mold could stop a nuke. This one couldn't fight itself out of a wet paper bag.

However, this one does have possibilities for the feet to be posed, which the old mold did not.
The old mold is definitely a sturdier, bulkier looking figure, but I'm quite partial to the sleeker, more flexible DOTM version.

Having said that, I own both Recon Ironhide and DOTM Ironhide.

I prefer the DOTM Voyager Ironhide because it looks better to me and it has better articulation for the legs. I don't mind the awkward design of the arms. I've never had problems with the toy's ability to stay together.

Here are some shots to show you what I mean about how you can make his legs more squat.

You can also see how accurate he is compared to the other molds. No other mold has legs that are as accurate or poseable. No other mold has a torso as accurate. The 07 voyager mold's head is too far back and has a weird bar in front of it that doesn't lock in place. My DotM figure's torso has no problem staying in place. Someone mentioned the window kibble, but even that's screen accurate. Both other molds have huge truck backpacks.

My 07 voyager figure is nowhere near as stable in the torso, his truck backpack wants to fall off, and his poses are limited by his crummy, unstable feet. One more thing I love about the DotM voyager is that his head is on a ball joint.

Thanks, everyone. I think I'll pick him up. It's the red version, too.

I have both the 07 and the DOTM variant.

I love DOTM's lower half, while the 07 movie Ironhide has a better upper torso (IMO) and the lack of cannons in DOTM are kind of a dissapointment to me.

My only two problems with DOTM voyager Ironhide are his smallish size and those ugly ports on his alt mode.

A larger size and ports like those on DOTM deluxe Bumblebee would make him a much better figure.

Not true - you can bend the toes up if you push the inner calf plates forward a little. Doesn't look too bad.

IMO, DotM Leader is the one to get. While simple in transformation, he's got awesome gimmicks and his posture is more accurate than any Voyager mold. He's like the HftD Deluxe, only much bigger and with better guns. You'll need to free his head from some glue and remove a spring so that his mouthplate is optional, which makes for a much better figure than people give him credit for.

OP, if you can, get the leader class Ironhide. He's a totally awesome figure in both modes and he's in scale with Leader Optimus and all the HA figures.

As for the voyagers, I prefer the 2007 version. He's bigger, look more menacing, and he have his huge canons on both arms.

Gotta disagree about the scale of leader IH v. leader OP. Though the TFs vary in size throughout the three movies, IH usually looks abou 2/3 the size of OP.

I've got the leader-class. He's good, but the head is bothersome and Murphy's Law practically decrees if I try anything with it I'll end up breaking him.
