Awesome, took em long enough to bring that sexy black beauty out on the market. =P~
Oh and it's a Decepticon, so it's not exactly the same as the original intent but still awesome!

Oh and the Clear FE Prime's nice too. >:oP

So, everybody complained that FE Optimus was substituted by RID Optimus, one of the reasons being the use of translucent plastic in RID's arms. As a result, HasTak has decided to bring back FE Optimus... with its whole freaking body made of translucent plastic?!?!

Man... two possibilities: either they are illogical or deaf  8)

So the Classics Optimus mold is not as unusable as previously thought and blows the SDCC one out of the water.

I'd still take a Universe 2008 Nemesis Prime, as he's a proper clone. The fad in Japan now seems to be making black Primes "Darksides", or the dark side of Optimus' character.

Both look nice, but I'm not sure if I want that United Black Prime... It just seems kind of pointless since there's already the KO version (which is way cheaper and seems just as nice) and the SDCC version which has been out for years. I guess I'm just disappointed because I really expected to see a black repaint of the FE Prime mold. The Translucent one is nice, but black is always better.

A fully translucent First Edition Prime and a Nemesis Prime release of a mold that is supposed to be lost forever...

I believe we've just been trolled by Has/Tak.

Well yeah, the idea is that it's supposed to be a BAD GUY clone. I don't see what you're getting at here calling this a FAD either, since it's been the idea since Scourge/Black Convoy. While I realize the black repaint of G1 prime exists, I hardly find it iconic. But to each their own I guess.

Didn't bite on this black prime before, probably won't now.
Wish they had still made the Blue Henkei Bumblebee :BANG_HEAD:

Whoever said anything about the molds being lost forever? You'll get the First Edition toys ... they just won't be in First Edition packaging when those molds come out at retail, kind of like how the First Edition Cliffjumper mold is being used for both Zombie versions, and the FE version of Megatron and the Starscream mold (as Skywarp) was used in the Arms Micron line. I'm sure they'll show up in some form or another in the Transformers Prime toy line at some point.

No, he means the Classics Voyager Prime mold, which was supposed to be lost forever due to mold degradation.

Read that again. I was referring to the Classics Optimus Prime mold not FE. I'm pretty certain Hasbro said the molds were broken.

That said, this looks exactly like the canceled Black Convoy from a while back, they may have just been sitting in storage as opposed to being fresh from the factory.

Edit: Didn't see your post there Dead Metal.

I misread that.

Comment still remains though ... whoever said anything about the Classics Prime mold having mold degradation? Wasn't it only used 6 times? (Classics, Ultra Magnus, SDCC, BotCon, Henkei, and transparent).

It was quite a while back. I'll never be able to find the news post where it was mentioned. But I remember this to be the case. That's why we ended up with this.

Same goes for this just being an old cancelled Scourge/Black Convoy repaint, there's no record of it on TFwiki but it definitely happened. I believe it was Wonderfest Black Convoy.

The mold started showing its age around SDCC Nemesis Prime and BotCon 2008, I read about alignment problems here and there with those two toys.

Sounds like theories, not facts. I had assumed that the "deluxe" version of Optimus Prime was used because it hadn't come out in Japan so Takara Tomy decided to use it in the "Sons of Cybertron" set and in the United line. They later released the deluxe Megatron in the United line as well so it seems only natural that the deluxe Optimus Prime was released for the same reasons that they decided to use the deluxe Megatron mold.

Don't have any problems with either of mine. This all sounds like fan assumptions that fans have said so many times that they consider it to be fact. Happens a lot in this fandom.

Perhaps this is the source of this rumor/assumption:

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Mold

TFwiki.net wrote:Molds that seem to be on their way out include:
The Alternators Subaru Impreza mold in its various incarnations started to show major signs of deterioration with Binaltech Asterisk Alert.
The Generation 1 Combaticons.
The Generation 1 Seacons are considered by many to have been beyond this point already when the Transformers Collectors' Club released the Timelines versions.
The Generation 2 Cyberjets.
Legends of Cybertron Optimus Prime.
Classics Voyager Optimus Prime.
Classics Starscream.
Movie Deluxe Class Concept Camaro Bumblebee.

"Molds that seem to be on their way out include"

This appears to be the author's opinion, not a statement of fact. Molds could always be repaired, modified, fixed, etc. Wouldn't be the first time that this has happened, or that a toy seems loose, but then later something is adjustment with the mold and future uses seem better or "fixed".

Not just theory in my mind. As I said, whether or not that was the reason the deluxe mold was released I could SWEAR a Hasbro rep stated the mold had suffered too much degradation to be used again, though I could easily be wrong, my memory fools me some times.

But, yes the mold was showing a good amount of age, whether officially stated or not it's not hard to come to this conclusion. Heck my Ultra Magnus is close to having his windows fall off and I had it for a shorter time than my Classics Prime, I imagine it could only get worse from there.

I cannot find any pictures of the original Wonderfest Convoy anywhere, only the KO of it. But if the KO is meant to be a close duplicate then it should actually have Autobot symbols and slightly different paint all around. Still, the plastic colors are no different. Or maybe they just fixed it... :???:

Thing is, we won't know how good this thing is till we have it in hand, it could end up like Henkei Thundercracker which was the last toy made from the 2.nd (the improved) Classics Starscream mold, the one that was first used for Hasbro's Classics Skywarp.

So it could very well be completely f**ked, wasn't that also the reason Takara gave why the figure was originally cancelled, due to the mold being too far deteriorated?

There also was a Henkei Convoy re-release, and a Hasbro re-release in the form of the Classics Optimus Prime/ Magnus two-pack.
Oh and Lucky Draw Convoy, but nobody knows how many of those actually exist or what the quality on them is like, due to the two different KOs that came out of it at the exact same time.

Oh and the author of the tfwiki article who put that there was me, after hearing all the complaints of SDCC and BotCon SG Prime, and well my own personal experience with SDCC Prime, which I had to take apart to cut off all the deformed plastic in the joints, well except for a few misalignments that are beyond my abilities. I put it under "seem to be on their way out" due to it being unconfirmed. That was one of the last edits I did on there before stopping with wiki work, I completely forgot about it to be honest.

Happy to accept any of this as fact if anyone can find via Google searches people talking about Hasbro or Takara Tomy employees stating something to this effect at some point. This isn't the first time that I've heard this, it's just no one can seem to point me in the direction of where it originally came from. I can back track via Google to find where people were complaining about minor issues with some of their toys from this mold, and people making statements that they think the mold is degrading, but from what I've been able to find no one seems to make a statement that anyone from those companies made a statement at some point. Just lots of fans turning assumptions into fan-facts.

Vicalliose wrote:But, yes the mold was showing a good amount of age, whether officially stated or not it's not hard to come to this conclusion. Heck my Ultra Magnus is close to having his windows fall off.

Sounds like a problem with your particular Ultra Magnus, as that was the first reuse of the mold and came out shortly after the release of Optimus, that there wouldn't have been mold degradation at that point. There are no issues with any of my versions of this toy. They all transform fine, they all line up fine, all four wheels touch the ground in vehicle mold. None of them are loose.
