Roadbuster help

So I'm currently looking into filling my collection's Roadbuster spot, and I need a bit of help.

Now, my collection is Classics focused so I don't need a 100% G1 accurate fig or the vintage one for that matter.
I also don't want the Cybertron Hot Shot repaint (due to lack of a proper head, weapons and size), nor will I settle for the Animated Ultra Magnus repaint, I don't like mixing aesthetics that don't go well together.

Now this only leaves the figures/ kits from the lines and show Roadbuster originated from Special Armoured Battalion Dorvack or something. I think the bot is called Mugen Calibur? I don't really know, every kit I come across seems to call it differently or look different for that matter.

Now I need help in finding the best kit/ figure for my collection and I hope someone can help me since I have no idea and am pretty helpless with that franchise.

This is what I'm looking for:

  • Articulation, it should have a nice range of articulation including elbows and knees
  • Detail, it should look nice and techy and should mesh well with Classics, but be honest, nothing like Animated Arcee fits in a G1 collection BS please
  • Size, it should be at least Deluxe sized or Voyager, as long as it's taller than the average Deluxe I would be happy
  • Proportions, as buff as possible, not anorexic
  • Weapons, he should have enough to look intimidating
  • Pricing, should be available for a good price, nothing insane
  • It should transform

Thanks.

I was going to suggest the Brave Gokin one, but he's big and costs at least $200. OUCH!

Yea, there seem to be 4 different versions of that one though.

A question this one here:

It's non-transforming isn't it? I've been checking but I could never get any information other than size, and weight and well a few pics.

I bought the CMS Brave Gokin figure when it came out. I paid somewhere around $180.00 for it on ebay, and I wasn't really very pleased with it. He is about the same height as a voyager, and has some diecast, but he has funny hips that don't stay locked together. He feels very fragile, and every time you touch him something falls off. It's not a bad looking figure though, and the price has come down quite a bit since I got mine.

Thanks so far, can anybody tell me or even better show me, how large the SD version is compared to a Deluxe TF?

I dont know if this would sit right, but what about Mega Beast Machines Tankor? The black and reddish one, or the Universe version that comes with Obsidian?
The head looks good, and he's VERY imposing. Only thing is, he turns into a tank. That's all I got.

I think I found my Roadbuster:

Either the first one and painted or a combination of the two with minimal extra paint.
I mean I figured that I would have to build a kit and since the official ones either look stupid or cost too much and are fragile as all hell (I've been researching all day). Why not make my own with better kits?

I just found these, they are part of a line called Frame Arms which are all based around an inner frame and can be combined and interchanged to your hearts contempt they also work with MGS weapon packs!
Best of all, those two together will run me less than an OK Roadbuster kit! :D

I'll check some other things first before I decide though.

It's a shame those NATO-bot kits are so scarce now. He turns Universe Roadbuster into something far cooler.

I have the top one. These things have very little in terms of transformability unless you like parts-forming. Also the frames themselves are prone to falling apart when posing, so you may want to glue most of the frame together, though that's probably a given. Also, unless you fold the treads down as heel spurs, he barely stands up.

Dunno about the bottom one though. I stopped bothering with this line fairly quickly, and that one looks kinda ugly anyway, outside of his Roadbuster-y colors.

I actually converted a TF Crossovers Captain America into my collection's "Classics Roadbuster". Mostly it was just a repaint, but I had to resculpt the head, then I drilled 5mm holes into the fists. Leaving the shield off, and giving him a couple guns, he makes an outstanding "Earth mode Roadbuster"

About what I was saying earlier, Beast Machines ground drones like Tankor, Scavenger, and Blastcharge all work. If you could kitbash those together, you'd have a pretty badass lokking figure.

Sorry, but I really don't want to kitbash and I don't like Beast Machines figures, especially not the drones.

I'm either going to try those kits or wait for Hasbro or a 3rd Party to make a proper one.

The pics of those Frame Arms figures just reminded me about those awesome mecha figures that were shown here as early prototypes a few months back. The series was called "Lost Squadron" or some such thing and there was a web comic shown.

What ever happened to that line? Anyone know it's status? :???:

You can get the Natobot kits from Shapeways now. If you're still looking, it's an option.
