Experienced Choices

Hello
I was just wondering if you (the collector) would at first be excited and filled with joy to obtain any single toy...Only to realize later on that it wasn't as good as you thought. At first when I started collecting (about 2 years ago) anything with a faction symbol got me excited and I would buy immediately, but now its changed. I only buy what is truly to my liking and my willpower grew.. I like hearing stories of the collector so do share :)
idk if I made sense...lol

That is the same reason I'm riding of my Transformers Animated Collection. While some of the figures are good, I admit, Animated wasn't my fave. Both as a toy line and a show, I now realize that I never really liked it. I just bought the toys to have them, but never enjoyed them.

As far as terrible figures go, there are quite a few ROTF and Movie 1 Figures I now realize suck. It's not uncommon, and you're not alone :)

Oh, and welcome to the Seibertron Forum Board! :D

I realize that I came to this...realization a little late.
I had several animated and movie toys that i bought at full price and about last month sold them (around 70 figures) for 100 bucks just to have the shelf space..
I feel like it was a lot of money down the drain and well, I am sure it was.
Also at the beginning of my collection I came across a good set of classics figures for a dollar each and traded them all for lame figures that I also realized weren't to my liking. I am sure that I could of bought all the ones i got in the trade for the price of selling just one of those classics...seriously.

I'm in the same boat with the animated stuff. I just got them to have them. I let them all go super cheap and I haven't batted an eyelash about it.

I started to feel the same way about the PRID stuff too. Just looked at them one day and decided I wasn't as into them as I thought.

The Prime line as a whole is pretty much like this for me. There are some figures I like, but overall, having them isn't nearly as cool as all my Beast Wars or Classics figures.

I want to get rid of my PCCs and Human Alliance basics. I was quite excited about getting them but after a few minutes I lost interest. I tried playing with them for a while to see if I grew to like them but it didn't happen. Mostly I've made good choices in my collection but there are a couple of other figures I want to offload.

I stick to G1 with an occasional figure that catches my fancy.

Pretty much this. I live the ones I have, but I have very little interest in hat I haven't already picked up. I finally found Legion CJ yesterday, and he's great. :) I have no interest in the PRiD one. I'd love the FE, but I can't get him at a reasonable price.

I was the same, until I got hooked on Prime. :-(

This is very much my thinking as well. Looking at how TF Prime line is developing, I'm very glad I decided not to jump into it. My Beast Wars figures will stay on their shelves for as long as I own a home and my Classics will continue to expand until I have no more space.

While my collection is primarily Classics focussed, I'll pick up bits and pieces from other lines. I've a couple of Prime figures, and planning to get more, but not bothered about completing the line or even the on-screen cast. I've passed on Classics iterations of characters more than a few times, sometimes regretted it, and picked up some quite poor toys, in retrospect, just because they were cheap or I was buying a lot of other stuff at the time.

Mostly passed on the movieverse stuff, but do have a few pieces. I liked the PCCs and Human Alliance basics, because after trying out a couple, they were very fun toys, with a lot of play value. I have a couple BW guys, and that's one line I would like to complete the on-screen cast, at least as far as those in the final few episodes of the series are concerned, but some of the toys are just not that appealing to me for whatever reason. Bring on the BW revamp!

Not TF, but the one line I went stupidly crazy on was the ROTS Star Wars line. I picked up almost every one of those guys I could find, and army built a bunch of clones. Unpacked them all at the weekend and was amazed at how many quite terrible toys there are, from really bad likenesses, or just dull characters, to a few that are near statues. That's without mentioning the small squadron of spaceships I have! Gonna have to get rid sometime.

I'm actually the complete opposite, I'm always grateful for impulse buyers then selling their toys cheap

Sort of jaded with the Movietoys right now. But other than that I really just buy a figure to fiddle around and see how it works. Buying toys to purely fill out a character cast for me is just soul wrenching and boring.

I had money when DOTM came around (finally had a full time job) and went crazy buying figures. I didn't buy everything, mind you, but I bought virtually every deluxe and Voyager figure there was <.< The only ones I really didn't touch were the same-character repaints (a la the billion Bee repaints and the G1 re-deco's like red Ironhide). I even bought the Ark and several cyberverse figures to go with it. Learned my lesson good and hard there. I completely burnt myself out with the movie designs. I take things more slowly now and actually pay more attention to what I'm buying - less impulse grabbing.

Looking through this thread though I guess I'm one of the few people who actually likes Animated xP I caught the end of the toy line (as I wasn't collecting in college), so I missed a bunch of figures. I'm slowly catching up. Purchased Starscream and Bulkhead a few weeks ago. I'm eyeing Blurr and Shockwave. Dunno when I'll pick them up though. Sometime this year if I can manage. There are a few non-Transformer purchases I want to make.

I sort of want everything. But I just realised that I don't really like everything.

First, unless it's a very iconic character that I love very much, I don't like G1. I traded lately a complete Doubledealer plus a MIB Seacon reissue box set for around 300$ worth of Bayformers from 2007. No regrets at all because all of these figures are awesome.

One regret is the Power Core Combiners. I bought a couples because they were on clearance but I found out at least ¾ of them SUCK. As scouts, they are not really good, mainly because of the default tiny derpy head and the sacrifices made to make a torso mode. Also, their blue bits are pretty ugly. Most drones are garbage looking.

Another mistake is DotM HA Leadfoot. You see, I always wanted him, but I did not want to pay 60$ for him with shipping. He is a USA Target Exclusive after all. Then, one day, finally see him in Québec in some obscure Toy Clearance Shop on the side of a highway.

I was overexited to see so many so cheap so...... I bought 7 of them... You know, for trade and selling.

Image

DotM HA Leadfoot is an EXCELLENT TRANSFORMERS. Still, 7 of them is way too much. Especially when he is sold for cheap even on Ebay. I should have only bought 2. One to open and one to keep sealed. Anyone wanna buy the other five?
Jeez, I think I'll be stuck with them for a loooooooong time.

honestly, after the first two movie lines, I looked at the third and didn't buy much. The only ones that interested me were the Commander class Legends. I had to buy one version of the voyager prime because the store I got it from was doing an offer to get PCC two packs free if you buy a voyager. They wouldn't do it separately so I ended up with a Prime I didn't want. I tried to repaint it to a nicer color scheme but I just didn't like it. FYI i needed the PCC for another custom.

I would rather stick to filling up my Classics or G1 shelf now. I'm buying PRID toys but there size is off putting. I may not keep up with that collection. Thank god for Takara and their upcoming Masterpieces. I'm actually really pumped for a future release. The current stuff is pretty meh.

I decided about a year ago to limit my collection to the subgroup I love best, Combiners. And the Masterpeice line. Been slowly offloading the little other stuff I have.

I'd be happy to take one of them off your hands. But it might take a while. I have to sell some TFAs so I have some damn money.

The only TF that I was real excited, then dissapointed was Universe Heavy Load. Yeah, he's a Cybertron Quickmix repaint, but something about the botcon pics from '08 got me interested. Seibertron reported these were released in Singapore 1st, and I hurried down that day to pick it up. Was rather dissapointed in the end... Oh well. I still like him, but just not as much.

I kinda like him a lil more after seeing him being used to fill out Decepticon ranks from AHM and Autocracy comics.

I was the same, buying a toy not because I liked it, but because it was there. Lets face it, the majority of people on these forums would have done so at one point. Who hasn't bought a TF they didn't 100% want, but did so by justifying as a "part of x collection" or whatever the reason may be.

I've since shifted my attitude to buying what i really want to. For me, it was easier said than done. I don't limit myself to only buying certain ranges anymore either, as i had done so in the past.

Now for me, it's a case of:
Why has this toy got my attention?
Price? Design? Character it represents?
If it appeals to me because of the price only, then I walk away. No point spending money on something just because it has a TF box and is cheap, only to be disappointed with purchasing it 5 minutes later.

I have a problem with ebay espeacialy when it come to randomly catching an auction in the last 2 minutes and it's next to dirt cheap my recent purchase was PRIME CJ passed on him loads of times don't realy want him but won him misb for £5 then regreted it straight after.

DOTM Basic HA i could have done with out apart from sandstorm he looks great the others all look great in alt mode but some robots wernt thought out properly.

Random G1 figures i don't realy collect them as a whole just a few favortie characters but again ebay and now i have a small box full of randoms again with g1 paying something stupid for a weapon.

I buy only 'classics' figures which represent characters that existed pre-actionmasters (which ruined Transformers FOREVUR!!11). I also refrain from any japan-only figures such as Black Shadow or Soundblaster, even though they look pretty cool. TFs would completely take over my life otherwise.

I tend to buy at least a few pieces from each new line, and then end up getting rid of most of them later. I've long since realized that I only really care for G1 and Classics, and to some extent the Botcon/TFCC stuff. A lot of the enjoyment of newer lines gets ruined ofr me by the elements of the fandom that decry you for not loving X as greatest thing ever. "What??? You don't love Animated? The Movieverse isn't your absolute favorite???" I know it happens the other way around as well, but given my options I'd rather people dislike the present than totally discount the past, so, you know, sue me. Out of the newer stuff I only have kept a select amount of stuff, like, I like the Movie 07 Leader Brawls and I love HFTD Leader Starcream, and I have movieverse Seekers because they are my favorite group. Otherwise I can probably count on both hands the number of movieverse figures I've kept. PRID and Animated make/made it easy for me, as I hardly have/ did purchased anything. IT's even easier nowadays, as the only toys I see are BBs. Makes the toy isle an easy pass.

I now create my own universe (started and based of Classics) and bought the figures only I think can fit in there well. That means I don't buy duplicate characters and there are many cross lines in my universe. So Prime line is pretty much just like a fill-in-the-empty-role line for me. What if a toy is so awesome that should not be passed if I see one? Yes, Prime FE Starscream is awesome, so he became my universe Slipstream, etc, etc. I do occasionally get impulse buy because I thought they can fit in there well. So I regularly go through them and get rid of the guys I think "well, now I don't think they fit there well".

I have another shelf that is keeping the exceptions, which has only 9 figures. 8 of them are movie figures and 1 Alternator.

Feel free to browse My Ebay to buy any Leadfoots.

Hmmm.... you have to sell some Transformers Animated? I LOVE Animated and I'm looking for a few figures myself. I really want Animated Blackout.

Wanna trade instead of feeding Paypal's wallet?
