When the new Deluxe wave of Transformers Generations featuring a trio of new Fall of Cybertron figures started turning up overseas earlier this week most of the attention went to Jazz and Shockwave. Site sponsor
Kapow Toys gives us a look at the other figure from this wave, Optimus Prime in his new FOC body. Check out the pictorial review below:
Kapow Toys wrote:
First off yes they have shrunk but I present this argument, the world economy is in the toilet, plastic prices have risen due to the high cost of oil and the cost of living has gone through the roof, something had to give and it appears to be about a quarter of the figure but! they are still roughly the same size as TF Prime figures and DOTM so this its not something new they have sprung on us. In these tough times even the big boys have to protect themselves, chocolate bars have shrunk, there are less potato chips in a bag yet the prices rise, the same rule applies to all no matter how much we dislike it.
On to the toy, some people don't like this design, I love it, I think its a great little action figure if a little weird in the proportions. The transformation is quite basic, something we've seen adopted since DOTM no doubt to entice actual kids back into the hobby after ROTF gate where even parents were stumped using the instructions. He is capable of a lot of poses and is just what you would want from a toy in that he is a pure action figure, two arms, two legs and a gun.
Versus the original there is probably no contest but if you take the rose tinted glasses off and be honest WFC Optimus has his critiques some of which were 1) The Transformation was too hard 2) The legs are a little short 3) His range of motion is not great. Is he bigger and better value? yes of course but if you have only just decided which one to plump for get in there now before prices rise.
The price point will put some off but at the end of the day that's not going to change even if the world does get a little better, once prices rise the very rarely come down, is he worth it ? yes, more so if your a G1 collector seeing as the only things currently on offer are Prime figures or the residual movie toys. What I will add though is this would have totally ruled if it was a Voyager class figure.
Overall Optimus scores 8/10

What a piece of crap.
Sure, it would look decent as a display piece, but its a tiny figure, and look at those legs.
This is far too simple for my tastes. It doesn't look fun at all. The transformation looks predictable and dull.
Still, its redeeming feature is it has an awesome truck mode. Like I said, a good display piece.

Getting it. For sure, no stopping me. It's fairly accurate yet simple. And I like how he looks, unlike so many others here. The simple transformation slammed together with just how awesome he looks is a recipe for an awesome figure.

The colors look too bright in those pics. And a side by side with WFC OP would've sealed the deal one way or the other. I'll just have to see it in stores to decide. I'm already getting Magnus so this isn't a must for me.

Ill stick with the WFC Prime, not only is this version just to small & overpriced but it just doesnt look that good. Plus im sure the quality isnt that great either. I do like the alt mode but not enough to pay what they're asking. Ill keep spending my money on games & ebay.

Y'know, he doesn't look as terrible as the inital pictures made him out to be. I've been wanting a new Prime so this one will do the job.

I will get this!
He looks like he will combine or something. All the ports are suspicious

He may just look really good with loads of Weapons and Mini-cons.
Also he looks like a younger version of Titaniums: War Within Prime,

and I actually like that toy a lot.

Guess I'm one of the few that actually decided to get this guy. Oh well.
He'll be displayed with my bigger figures. I shall diaper him and name him "Babimus Prime". >:3

He looks better here than in the official pics. I still think he looks better painted as Ultra Magnus so I'll have to wait for that version. I don't need another Cybertronian OP.

I would like to get a WFC over this but thats like trying to get a RTS Prime at the moment for me eiter impossible or at a price i'm not willing to pay.
if i don't have a WFC by the time this is out i'll pick him up he's not that bad i can see why some think he is but i'll give him chance
i dont care about scale of the FOC line if it's a good figure it's a good figure i'll not complain .

I have just opened my FOC Optimus Prime and while I'm not unhappy with him, I'm not all that thrilled.
He is certainly designed down to a price, while he looks fine standing there he feel cheap to hold. In addition, I really don't like his posture, he sort of looks like he is thrusting his chin forward and combined with his hunched appearance, it makes him look like a bit of a lumbering fool.
For the record I also opened FOC Jazz and Shockwave. Both are very simple and also feel cheap. I can forgive Jazz's non transforming legs as the rest of the back of the car folds away so nicely. Shockwave has very thin legs but so did the G1 toy, he is generally great even if his alt mode does remind me of one of the ships from the Wipeout games.

Based on the pictures, I can guess it will transform in two seconds. Both modes look great so the simple transformation don't seem to make the toy look bad.
I own WFC OP and the one thing I don't like about this figure is the transformation is too long to do. He's an awesome figure, no doubts, but it's not one I want to play with often. I prefer simpler but clever transformations that make both modes look totally different but are fun and easy to do.
I cant wait to have FoC OP in hand!
On a side note, if you love the cybertronian desings for Optimus Prime, get the Titanium version, based on some comics. THIS is the original and both modes look great. His transformation is easy but not really fun to do because heavy diecast on plastic joints make parts pop off easely. They pop right in, of course, but that's annoying. Still, if you find it for a reasonable price, he will go well with both WfC and FoC figures.

I wish they would have spent more effort in his transformation. The front wheels go on his back, not his arms.
