Masterpiece Madness

Between Now and December 6 Masterpiece figures are coming out
-MP-10 Optimus Prime :BOT:
-MP-11 Thundercracker :CON:
-MP-11 Sunstorm :CON:
-MP-12 Sideswipe :BOT:
-MP-13 Soundwave :CON:
-MP-14 Redalert :BOT:

i know this a lot and i’m sounding impatient but i’m curious what you think would be the next masterpiece to come out or what you would like to see. and on a side note what do think of sunstorm price wise. worth it? :-?

i’m hoping the next one is Sunstreaker but not a repaint to go with Sideswipe or Inferno to go with Redalert. But since it’s easier to do a repaint of Thundercracker/Starscream/Sunstorm we’ll probably get another MP-11 mold of Skywarp :-? . I don’t mind though since i never got the MP-3 mold but there’s so much going on now i don’t expect anything too soon which is fine after all 6 masterpieces in 4 months. Pretty awesome glad i started saving up last month and pre-ordered Redalert & Sideswipe and just got my Thundercracker last week

Why is Jazz not possible?

I'm curious too, why not Jazz??? I'd love for them to continue the dinobot line especially with Swoop, and dreaming of an Ultra Magnus, or my real dream would be a kick-ass Cyclonus

Porsche no give license.
I'm not sure how much of VW owns Lambo now,
But VW has had a strict policy of no guns with thier cars.
Unless they finally worked something else, Jazz's alt mode has been
Off limits. If they do Jazz, it would open up the possibility of MP Cliffy and Bee.
Which if it's the g1 alt modes, I'm in.

I would also imagine MP Magnus finally coming to light.
Since the line has an official scale. I would be willing to bet.
It will be just a repaint with a new trailer that can carry the
Autobot cars.

Actually, Soundwave and Red Alert are Jan '13 releases. Besides, Prime and Thundercracker are Hasbro releases, so it's not Takara's fault for making your wallet bleed.

I am getting Soundwave and the cassettes. I am reserving MP purchases for only my favorite characters. The downsized Sideswipe/mold just doesn't do it for me.

I am hoping for an Ultra Magnus. I think the MP scale is perfect to display him on my Classics shelf.

The only MPs I'm going to buy will be a new Megatron and a Galvatron whenever they are made. I only am buying the leaders for my shelf due to lack of space and wanting to put funds towards my classics figures.

Of course, should an MP Star Sabre and Deathsaurus get made, I'll snatch them up too.

I for one am super-stoked on the MP line these days. I think the releases we're likely to get soon are the cassettes (as we've already seen some preliminary molds), Ultra Magnus, and perhaps a scaled down Megatron and a Shockwave (as Takara did seem to suggest that while presenting the new MPs).

As for what I would like to see, obviously we need a VW bug Bumblebee and a Porsche Jazz. I think it's weird that Takara can still release figures using the old 80's molds of these characters (as Encores or characters like Bug Bite), but we can't get MP versions, why can't they just stylize the vehicles just enough to bear strong resemblence but not be exact VW replicas?

Other than that, I am excited to get ANY G1 character as a Masterpiece. Maybe a Blaster with his cassettes. Maybe an up-scaled Grimlock would be good to get out of the way and clear a path for other Dinobots. Maybe sell him with Wheelie to sweeten (sour?) the pot? Maybe some insecticons. Oooo, any gestalt would be awesome. More cars, like Wheeljack, Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen, Mirage, Hound, I could just go on forever...

You know what would be a kick in the face to 3P?
MP Devy...

To stay in scale, each member would be the size of Sideswipe.. under 90$ ea, perfect cartoon accurate. It would make Herc look like a MLP.

I know it's dreams, but the fact that HERC and Giant sell, means there is a market. a True MP Devy would sell to both sets of fans who purchased, and who didn't because it wasn't HasTak

Takara, we are here, we are ready.

While I would love to see a mp devy starting with him might not be a good idea. There are just to many devys out there. If they would make a gestalt I think they should start with something that hasn't over populated the market. Start with defense, pirahnicon, or menasor.

The only way TAK will do a combiner is if it is wholly Iconic.
Devy is the only choice they will make first. They also don't
Acknowledge 3P products, so they will do it based upon merit, and iconic value.

People would be much more willing to pay 600$ for official "perfect"
Devy from TAK, over the 3P, in regards to the MP line.

Honestly I think the Cone-heads will come before the first combiner.

It's nice to see that after 5 years of dragging their heels, Takara is starting to show the Masterpiece line some love. 4 brand new molds and 6 new Transformers in just over a year is a pretty big improvement from 5 molds, 8 Transformers, and a number of repaints over the first many years of this line. I hope they keep it up. There are just so many I would love to see them do. I would love to see them do all of the series 1 Autobots and Decepticons including Reflector and the Rainmakers. Plus I would love to see them release Thundercracker and Skywarp at the same time this time, I find it annoying to have to wait years for different colours of the same mold.

Has anyone heard any buzz about a release date for Hasbro's MP-10 Optimus Prime? I'm wondering if I should save up for him, if he is out in October; or just get a Thundercracker, if he doesn't come out till Late November. I'd love to have the two, but if they are both on shelves at the same time I'll only be able to grab one.

I've been debating on Sideswipe too. that price point is a little rich for a figure of his size but I like him the more I see him. He would be AWESOME in primes trailer!

I really hope they don't reuse MP Sideswipe as Sun Streaker. Sun Streaker should really have a separate mold and transformation.

I imagine Sunstreaker will share a lot of parts with Wheeljack. In the same way that Jazz will probably share a lot of parts with Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen.

considering it’s a Masterpiece i’m assuming they wouldn’t cheap out with a repaint of sideswipe for sunstreaker. Red Alert’s fine. They’re both the same transformation and car. They cheat on the wheels but i can live with ONE little change. let’s not push it. i’m a little worried about how they would handle an inferno figure just because he’s a brick in the cartoon. His head would probly have no articulation. The only concrete reason i think they are going to make him soon is because red alert is coming with little effect parts to make him look like he’s glitching from the episode he gets damaged and becomes paranoid and him and inferno have a bromance in the end

I'm kinda hoping they up the ante and do at least six new molds (with perhaps even more characters) in the new year, there are just so many guys to get to (and gal if they ever do Arcee). An Inferno/Grapple mold would be great! And big too, compared to some of the smaller cars.

6 new molds would be awesome but i don’t see that happening for a few reasons.

1. they would have to release a new mold every 2 months and as you can see with past MP release dates with the time they are announced that’s very unlikely. If they already have the 6 prepared right now and all they have to do is show it off a little and release it then sure

2. that’s a lot of money to put into at once. Even collectors would have a tough time buying a $60-100 figure consecutively and that’s if it’s hasbro. if it’s takara that’s waaay more expensive. imagine buying soundwave 6 times...holy crap. and that’s on top of the other transformer lines-FOC & Prime

3. which brings me to my next point there is sooooo much going on this year and next year with transformers their hands are way too full. to be honest i kind of wish they’d slow down. as i said before there’s a lot being released already and i’m having trouble keeping up. although i’ve been trying to catch up with past lines of TF source so maybe it’s just me

Yeah, I can only qualify my statement as wishful thinking, I've thought of at least two of those three constraints, and my own wallet would not accommodate six-plus MP figures in a year. Still, there are so many characters I want to see an MP treatment of before the line is inevitably discontinued. I'll just maintain my excitement to see who is next up to bat...

i wouldn’t worry about it being discontinued. they rake in a ton of money and there’s never really any worry of them being shelf warmers especially since they barely last an hour on the shelves. not to mention every pre-order is also filled in less than a day. my only worry is certain characters may not seem masterpiece worthy to Has/Tak. For example as i’ve said having both Sunstreaker and Sideswipe together would be amazing, but Sunstreaker might not have stood out enough for Has/Tak to care. In fact i don’t recall Sunstreaker ever talking i’m sure he did but nothing comes to mind. Plus other than G1 has Sunstreaker ever been in another show? Do i give a damn? :???: hell no  he still looks really awesome and compliments Sideswipe really well. Both Sideswipe and Red Alert have been in numerous TF shows so i can see why they were chosen

pre-orders on some sites have been updated..

Sideswipe looks to be early October, Soundwave late NOV/Early December, and Red Alert is late Dec/Early Jan.

I would love to see a Prowl, Wheeljack and Jetfire/Skyfire MP sets that are scaled properly with Optimus Prime. But any G1 MP that comes out and is not a repaint/reissue would be great.
