Animated Elite Guard

Just a call for help in deciding whether to spring for all the figures.

I currently have Safeguard and Longarm Prime, and Blurr is on his way.

Do you recommend Sentinel, Ultra Magnus and Jazz?

I'd like to complete the set, but it is almost biting into budget for other things.

I think you have to. They were the most important 3 members, getting the most screen time. They look great together. I never had Sentinel or Magnus but the Jazz mold was fantastic. I loved the Animated line as a whole. A great line for screen accuracy and articulation. Highly underrated, in my opinion. Depends on the prices of course, but if you are comfortable with what you would be paying, go for it!

Yes, you must. That version of Ultra Magnus is probably my favorite bot mode of them all. Sentinel is good, but uses the fake windshield thing to pull it off. Jazz is great too.

I know I will get hated on this, but I gotta say that Animated is probably my favorite line of the last 10 years with Alternators a close second. If you can, grab anything Animated and you will not be sorry. I am down to Hydrodive Bumblebee, Skywarp and Jetwing Prime to finish my collection off.

Leader Magnus does look really good.

There's an eBay auction for a Takara version for about £30/$48.
How much overboard is that?

I despise the animated line, the aesthetic makes me physically cringe. That said, I do have a soft spot for animated UM, he's solid and feels good, both modes are great and hold a handful of nifty little options for fiddling with in robot mode.

This is high praise coming from me, haha.

The only Elite Guard members I own are Jazz, Sentinel, Longarm Prime/Shockwave (purple), Jetfire and Jetstorm. I recommend them all. The Elite Guard figures are some of the best IMO.

I'm not an expert on toy prices, but I'd happily pay that for him in good condition because he is a great toy (keep in mind that I payed more at AU retail, so that seems like a good deal to me :P ).

Definitely try and get them all if they show up for good prices.

I was alright with Animated as a cartoon, but not so much with toys. I'm not saying they're bad, in fact I'm willing to state that Longarm/Shockwave was one of the most outstanding transformer figures this side of the last decade, it's just that the aesthetics just never clicked with me in plastic form. I have Magnus, Blurr, and Jazz and out of that lot I can only say Blurr really stands out as the best. Jazz is good too, but just a teeny bit off putting by how stiff some of his joints feel in certain positions. Everyone seems to praise Magnus, but despite having him in hand, I'm just not seeing it. Leader class figures have always been a great big wad of annoying to me given that they tend to be a big chunk of electronics with a bunch of smaller things transforming around it, and Magnus is no exception. His torso is completely static and his nogin' is just too many shades of wrong with all the gimmickry inside it. He packs a lot of hidden goodies, but quite frankly I don't think it makes up for how ugly that talking gimmick makes his face look.

I should say, the $48 includes shipping from Hong Kong, and it's the Takara release MISB.
I might go for it, after all.

Any thoughts on Sentinel by himself?

Damn! That sounds like a nice deal :D

I like the toy, but not as much as the others. Might be because he was such a tool in the show  That said, he is still a nice toy and worth it if you're getting all the others. Just wait to find another good deal.

Sentinel Prime and Jazz are both cool, but Leader UM is a GREAT figure!

So no love for Blurr? He was a member of the Elite Guard too, before being compressed into a cube. If you want them all, he *needs* to be in there.

Uhh...he's asking about Sentinel, Jazz, and Magnus. Why would we talk about Blurr?

Plus, he's already got Blurr on the way.

Ultra Magnus is a great figure. His alt mode was one of the cooler alt modes ever. Love it.

Jazz is also good. I would recommend getting both of them. I never owned Sentinel, so I can't comment on him.

Note to self, wear glasses when reading posts. #-o

Anyway, Ultra Magnus, Jazz and Sentinel Prime are some of the best to come out of the line, but it's hard to really pick a favourite. Priority-wise though, Ultra Magnus gets first place, then Jazz.

I did go for the Magnus auction, as the seller applied a 5% discount!

I also managed to get both Sentinel and Jazz MISB for 20 bucks including shipping; my completist self is happy, my wallet a little less.

Three of them arrived today!

I'll put some photos up later, but I've learned a lesson from buying Takara sound&light figures: Ultra Magnus' phrases are in Japanese!

And apart from a 'urtura magnus: transuform', I have no idea what he's saying. Any help?

The team looks great! But I'm also seriously biased towards Animated.

So much love for the show and toys <3

Yeah, I really love the aesthetic of these guys!

I'm limiting myself to the Elite Guard, including Longarm, and Swindle, Oil Slick and Soundwave, though. Trying to put money aside for a potential Dudicus. Or non-TF stuff. Or you know, life.

I feel ya. I'm not aiming to get every figure (not even close) but there are still a few I'd like to get my hands on - Blurr, Swindle and Swoop - but there are other things to do / save up for.

Ah life. Would be nice to be a multi-million lotto winner. Lol. Never gonna happen though.
