when ROTF came out i was into customizing and painting my TFs a lot. looking at them now i really regret painting these once awesome toys. i am working on replacing them with the originals. very few customs i am ok with in my collection. but i can tell that replacing the customs i did will definetly be time consuming and costly. anyone have these regrets? i am currently trading my customs to my cousin who wants them. but most of the ones i repainted are scouts from ROTF and HFTD. and im glad they are scouts because they are very cheap except for a few.

The only ones i use for painting etc are ones that I find on sale, and that I usually already have (stupid wave completest lol)
The Transformers in my collection are untouched with the exception of something like a Reprolabels kit. I organise my collection around characters, teams etc so I've a few customs that I've done along side the originals etc.

I customized a lot of my Prime figures. I'm going to be getting Reprolabels for Knock Out's doors and headlights, which is the figure I went berserk on painting, but otherwise I have no regrets with him.
However...there is one figure I seriously fragged up, and I need to buy a new one to replace him. Ratchet. Dear god. I used an inaccurate red to paint most of his truck, and then I came up with the dumb idea to give him battle damage. I tried removing the paint, but it still leaves a lot of tint and some spots just won't come off.

But, yeah, Ratchet's the only one I regret customizing. I'm going to buy a new one and give him Reprolabels.

Any red on Prime Ratchet is inaccurate. He's white and orange.

The toy is white and scarlet. Scarlet is a shade of red. He's white and red-orange in the show.

My "customs" are more touch-ups than anything else, and if those count, no I don't regret doing them.
DOTM deluxe Bumblebee had horrible yellow lower legs before I took a Gundam gray marker and painted them up. Added various paint silver apps to his "forearms protectors", door handles and the SS logos on the sides of his alt mode. I'm planning on drybrushing his gray parts in different silver paints later.
He looks much better than before the paint apps, so no, I don't regret it one bit.

I always try to find a used, unboxed figure off of eBay in the first place as I hate the idea of customising mint figures. Nearly all of my figures have reprolabel faction symbols on them but I have started to do paint apps on some, to radical changes on others.
You shouldn't regret customising figures anyway, as even if you made a big mess of it you probably learned new skills along the way, so your future customs will benefit.

I don't know why you feel that, even for crap movie figures. Didn't you put quite a few time, effort, and love into it? Well, if you really messed up, that's a different story.

I did totally, totally mess up my classics Prowl and he ended up being in the recycle bin. Yeah, totally messed up and unrepairable. Luckily he was quite cheap on eBay for me to buy another one.

I think I have regretted my full on repaints, mainly cause I don't take the time to do it right, and I don't use the highest quality paints.
Little touch ups or some metallic highlights can really bring out some nice details in a figure though...
I ruined some movie figures too, but now I am just into Classics and I can't decide to get rid of my movie stuff. I really like the figures themselves, but the movies just aren't good enough for me to like the characters.

Yes... Cybertron Hot Shot and Excellion I attempted to turn each into Red Alert and Sideswipe respectively, because at the time I thought the universe sideswipe mold didn't look good for it... then I ended up buying them anyway, so now I am without a proper Cybertron hot shot for nothing.

Not really
Made Primal Prime look more like Optimus Prime by painting his head
Made Bulkhead look like Springer by painting his face silver -- even w/ the new Springer I still like him
Made Yellow Binalteck Track look like Bumble Bee by painting his head yellow.
did some other customs I can't think of now...

Get the Movie 1 repaint. It was a Getaway homage, but it looks better than either of the Cybertron line's decos by miles. That's my Hot Shot on my Classics/Universe shelf and I'm perfectly happy with it.

Replace a guy I painted white with a guy who is already white? If I wanted a white Hot Shot this wouldn't be an issue!
