Oh my, this is so exciting. While the mold isn't perfect (esp. on the backside of the robot) and the car bra is hideous, it's nonetheless very awesome that Smokey finally got his well-deserved unique mold. I am not convinced on some of the paint color choices, but I am sure some alcohol/paint or Repro labels can fix them. Can't wait to get him!!! :ic$:

Anyone know the Takara claims web address? I'd like to file my "you jerks owe me $40" claim asap. /facepalm

I like the AM Smokescreen, a lot actually, and he would be awesome with a set of Reprolabels but with this guy coming out, I think that's most likely a pipe dream (all but confirmed to me by Craig on another site). Clearly this is the superior Smokey... that said, the AM Smokey head is the better of the two AND the box is awesome. w00t!!

Ok, I'm buying this one. The head is a good mould, just bad painting. I can sort that out. Does anyone want the crappy armour when I get mine?

Just so we're clear, you meant this symbol is on the figure, right?

If you meant the prototype, then where is it? :???:

That's the one. Which is different from the one you showed further up, more unicorn-y.

Am I just adding to the confusion? :???:

As for Smokescreen, still unsure, even though the armour-on-off feature is a plus!
Might just focus on Starseekers and Predacons.

EDIT: After another look at the pictures, he may have moved onto the want list.

The dragon-looking one is the final. The "unicorn-y" one is the prototype.

OH! That makes a lot more sense now! Thanks!

(Sorry for being so slow, I thought you meant it the other way round... :HEADHURTS: )

What the hell? They were on the right track bu then look like they gave up on the arms and feet and said, "**** it. People will buy it anyway."

Seeing the notched pieces at the bottom of Smokescreen's chest/waist compared with that Prowl pic... I'd put MONEY on seeing a Prowl repaint.

But I digress.

Bulkhead's new head sculpt isn't working for me. Too generic and not emotive enough after all we've seen in the cartoon. He's a vibrant, funny character — and you don't get anything out of the simple, generic goggle-facelump sculpt here.

If they wanted to deviate from the original head, they could have just gone with a spot on Roadbuster head to complete the homage.

Yeah, I'm going to have to invest in a little grinder/wood chipper to dump all the clip on armor into. Mmmmm recycling.

Exactly. I'm not all that impressed with him. There's an awful lot of kibble on him. He's one hell of a cheatformer and shellformer. You mean to tell me they couldn't find a way to collapse that hood into his chest? Really?

I admit that the AM Smokescreen isn't perfect, but with a few mods, I think he'd look better and more accurate than this one. And the paints on the US Smokey? Bland. Just...bland. The stickers (I do hate them) really pop on the Japanese version. (Their only saving grace.)

I don't know. I feel like people got screwed all around when it came to Smokescreen. TakaraTomy apparently didn't get this mold for their use, at least right now, and the US version has a LOT of kibble on it. A lot.

I don't know what to think or do here. I'll probably buy it and do some parts swapping, such as the heads, but once I have it in hand and can do a complete comparison, I'll make a final decision for sure.

As of right now, I'm less than impressed. I'm actually glad I paid for the import.

i feel bad that japan got left out on this one.

General rule of thumb: Japan eventually gets almost everything the US does, usually as good as or better. Pretty sure Takara will release this later on with better paint apps or stickers if they stick with the Arms Micron gimmick.

The only thing that is lacking to me is the missing/wrong colors on Smokescreen. He looks great otherwise and as Doubledealer93 said, I'm sure Reprolabels will come to the rescue! I really can't understand why Hasbro did that? You'd think someone there would check and re-check to make sure the colors were the same as the show...oh well.

I am actually impressed with the engineering of this figure. They managed to make him have door wings without looking anything like Bumblebee! That is quite a feat. Although the fake chest is a little disappointing, I think Smokey will have a unique transformation that we haven't seen before...which deserves praise whether you want this guy or not. I also like how thin he is with a lack of back kibble. It looks like his arm kibble can be manipulated to each person's taste for optimum poseability. Needless to say...buy on sight! :D

Exactly, there's no reason to bitch and moan about a little forearm kibble, especially when there's room and hinges to move it about of the way. As for the bits on the feet...who cares? Nobody with a lick of sense, that's who! His transformation scheme looks brilliant!

Sold! This guy and Hot Shot are the Autobots I want from this series. Too bad retailers don't like me and won't get any Hot Shots.

But, That's how I felt about the Vehicons. Saw one fig, bought him, and the next week - they're everywhere! So maybe I'll find Hot Shot somewhere.

I can't believe it. They actually made a figure in this line that I'm seriously considering getting. That armor and fugly weapon will never see the light of day but the figure itself is actually something worthwhile. We'll see what happens when I actually have it under my nose at the store though since it has been insanely easy to talk myself out of purchasing nearly every other figure from the Prime line. The fact that they jacked the prices by $5 USD on them while giving us smaller figures had a lot to do with that but the aesthetic of the figures has been mostly to blame.

Well we now know for sure that the armor is removable and the robot chest is fake. I do like how it swings though. I was correct in my assumption that some people would be put off by the kibble on his arms but it looks to me like daggers or something. Can't wait to see Bulkhead now.
