Coin or Cube? Which would you have picked? My MP-13 story

MP-13 been sold out in just 30 seconds posted in amiami/hobbysearch and hlj. So I opted to reserve one from my local specialty shop.

I've heard that the guy will come with either cube or coin but given how just owning one would be enough, them special packages don't matter.

So lo and behold, MP-13 just got delivered and all sold out/reserved/pre-ordered. Only two pieces were left in the batch.......one for me and one for another collector. Little did I realize that my buddy (the shop owner)ordered the "special packs". The Japan version is the Amazon jp "energon cube" set #-o , while the HK version is the coin collectible in the cardboard SW facsimile.

So when I was about to pick it up, (I technically didn't specify either set) he asked me to choose......"cube or coin?" So I absent-mindlessly said cube.....but the other collector who just arrived took dibs and asked me if he could have the cube set too.

Mexican stand off? Well , he did asked nicely and being such a softy...........I relented  ( I realize later that the coin set is much more cheaper than the cube........so I won with the bargain(?)) Well the guy a few minutes later changed his mind and ask that he get the coin so for an extra $12.50, the cube set became mine again.

Did I get the short end of the stick?

Btw, now I've got "3" energon cubes now........what the heck do I do with the other two?

You can make a nice little energon cube pile. In the grand scheme of things, both are unnecessary accessories and I would probably go with the coin simply because it was cheaper.

BUT! If you are asking in a straight up choice, if the prices were the same which I would prefer, then I would tell you the cube. Here's why: the cubes have some meaning. The coins have no place in transformers lore at all. Other than the fact that Takara is trying to make their adult collectible toy seem more "legit" as collectible and not a toy, I never understood their inclusion or that of the collectible cards, for that matter.

The cubes have meaning. Anybody who is in the market for a masterpiece transformer knows what an energon cube is. And you can at least do something with them, posing your figures with them, etc. They can add value to your display. The coins? What are you supposed to do with them?

Cubes, they were in TONS of G1 episodes and usually produced by Soundwave.

Energon cubes would be cool for adding to displays.

What are you gonna do with stupid collectible coins, aside from throw them in a drawer and forget about them?

Can't argue with the cube. Coin? What am I, a slot machine?

I say go with the cube. Not much use for a coin, TBH.

Which reminds me; I got neither. I'll have to go back to the hobby store and ask about it. Not that I care about the coin, but if it comes with the toy, I want it.

Or maybe the store imported the non-Amazon Japanese version, which has neither? :-?
