I've been thinking about adding this guy to my collection. Is it a good figure? Any issues or problems with? It looks cool, and looks like it would be a good addition to my collection. Is it worth buying for $40 or $50?

To me he would be. What's not to love about a drill tank / dragon Triple Changer?
The only bad thing about it are the proportions of the dragon legs, he looks like he has thunder thighs

I have read about fears of the drill halves potentially suffering from GPS, but I've yet to see reports of them having snapped off.
$40 to $50 is a good price, I've seen a VS set with Lio Convoy go for over $100.

He's such a pain in the booty to transform though

He's a very Japanese toy. What I mean by that is, the style is very anime-esque and the proportions are odd. That being said, I think he's a pretty cool figure and worth having in the collection, especially if you're big into Japanese Beast Wars.

Well I like the style and look of it. I'm more concerned about the quality, especially the fear of GPS concerning the drill.

The drill is not the type that suffers from GPS. It's a soft, pliable plastic like the swirly silver and gray plastic used on many of today's modern Has/Tak TFs. The texture is totally different from GPS plastic, which has a far more rigid, grainy feel to it (Beast Wars Torca or Beast Wars Randy for example, both of which I have).

No GPS on my version. Heck, its much older than my now dear departed Superpants Prime (hence I had to get a new Takara back then)

It's cool. I want it but haven't the space for it. Dragon mode all the way though. Ditch the golden drill shoulder pads in that mode. Then it's even cooler.

I think, in isolation, no, don't get it. It has a very unique aesthetic and doesn't fit in well with characters from other canons.
Getting some Predacon minions for him to lord over? Then do it, absolutely.

I got mine at a hobby shop for around 15 bucks almost 2 years ago. No problems since, recommended for sure, awesome in all 3 modes, and looks good on the shelf, very imposing.

The ball-jointed thighs always did bother me, though. Otherwise, Galvy rocks.
