Hi all,
I'm curious as to member's opinions on the Classics and Universe 2.0 line of figures. I noticed a few that really caught my eye.
yay or nay?

Go for it. It's the best since G1 and it seems unstoppable with the announcement of the glorious Metroplex.
Good luck on completing it, though.

Bar a few exceptions ( Galvatron I'm looking at you) Classics and Universe 2.0 have really good figures. No doubt. Which ones caught your eye?

So I've been selling off all my "movie line" figures lately, and with all the free space I created I went on a G1 buying spree. lol.
After a handful of great purchases, I began to find it increasingly difficult to source solid, good condition figures....so I started looking at the Classic/Universe line.
Gotta say, figures like Tankor and Junkheap are lookin' real goooood!

Junkheap is very cool. Tankor... not so much. He's not bad, but his robot mode suffers a bit for his two other mode's and his weapon is just silly. Other than that his two vehicle modes are o.k. There are much better figures in the lines than him though.

From what I see, this line seems to be a perfect blend of G1 awesomeness with today's upgraded technology. Gonna keep poking around...

I'd say pick and choose from across various lines putting together a 'Classics' cast. The obvious lines being Classics, Universe 2.0, Reveal the Shield, Generations (Hasbro and TakTom) and Henkei, but there are some figures that can fit in with these from the movie lines and (less so these days as updated versions of characters have become available) the Armada/Energon/Cybertron continuity. A lot of third party offerings and Botcon/Club figures can complement an updated G1 cast as well. With a lot of characters there are various versions across various lines to choose from at this point, so while secondary market prices on these lines can be high coming to them retrospectively there's a fair amount of choice on just which versions of who suits you best.

If you need some recommendations:
Classics
Optimus Prime
Megatron (get a Japanese version, either Henkei or United)
Jetfire
Astrotrain
Universe
Cyclonus (even better, look for the repaints)
Hound with Ravage
Generations
Darkmount (aka Straxus)
Scourge
Warpath
Thunderwing
Wheeljack / Turbo Tracks
Special Ops Jazz

Yup, that's exactly what the lines aims to be. Updated characters from G1 mostly, from different media.
Some are better executed than others though.
And I suggest you take a look at the upcoming Generations figures. some sweet sweet Blitzwing and Springer updates are coming out.
If you want suggestions:
Classics
Astrotrain
Jetfire
The Seeker Mold.
Voyager Optimus Prime / Magnus
Mirage
Universe
Cyclonus (Agree with Rabbit, look for the repaints of him)
Prowl
The Dirge and Roadbuster 2 pack. (They are repurposed Cybertron figures: Starscream and Cybertron Defense HotShot, but they are really nice molds)
There many more from the Generations and Reveal the Shield Lines that are really good like
Turbo Tracks
Scourge
Warthpath etc...

I liked Tankor. Never had Octane myself, but this was a fun figure with interesting transformations, and cool weapons. Sure the robot mode isn't as good as some other toys, but I didn't feel it was particularly hampered by alt-mode kibble or anything. A nice figure I was happy with purchasing.
Lots of other good ones in the various Classics, Generations, RTS, etc lines and it looks like there'll only be more on the way, with Springer, Blitzwing and of course Metroplex.
I'd suggest looking at the recently released Seeker 3 packs if you're looking for those guys, as it's really hard to track down some of the single releases for a good price and with those sets they'll all match better.

Jetfire is one of the loveliest molds. Watch when you're transforming him though, it is possible to cleave his helmet antennae.

I think after G1, they may be my favourite series of figures. Definitely worth the investment

Classics is most of my collection. Love it. Worth getting if you have the money to track down the older figures. Some of them are kind of pricey.

The classics and universe 2.0 (plus the later RTS and Generations) lines are my most favorable lines, especially if you like those G1 characters..
