Who would you have put in this year's Botcon set?

I’m sure this topic has been covered before, but given all the discussion about the new Botcon set, I broach it again.

If you could decide this year’s lineup, who would you have chosen? Remember you only have access to certain molds and can only do 4 new heads or accessories.

I wouldn’t have done a Machine Wars set. As we’ve seen, it’s just too limiting a concept to be pulled off satisfactory. Especially given the limited number of molds they had access to this year.

I probably would’ve done a nice lineup of classic characters to fit in with the CHUG line.

Box set:
G1 Bugly (Generations Scourge w new head)
G1 Treadshot (Generations Warpath)
G1 Landmine (Generations WFC Optimus Prime w new head)
G1 Mainframe (Generations WFC w new head)
G1 Sky Lynx (Generations Lugnut. Jet mode is white with teeth motif kept. Robot mode parts are blue and red. New Lynx head. Because of long limbs he can be placed on all fours and look like a successful amalgam of robot and beast)

Two Action Masters, Two Pretenders, and One Unique.

2pk
G1 Crosshairs (HftD Brawn)
G1 Quake (Classics Tank Megatron)

2pk
G1 Gears (Generations Swerve)
G1 Bomb Burst (HftD Mindwipe)

3pk
G1 Reflector (RtS Perceptor x 3)

Attendee Figure
Beast Wars Grimlock (Universe Dinobot)

Customization Class
G1 Gutcruncher (Generations Warpath)

I liked the Machine Wars idea, but they dropped the ball on the box set.

I would've had:
Hoist - Generations Kup
Mirage - Classics Mirage (It's just an awesome mold)
Skywarp - HtFD Terradive with a new head
Sandstorm - Skyhammer
Starscream - Universe Silverbolt

One of the sets could've been Strika and Obsidian

The rest... well time will tell.

^ my thoughts almost exactly.
I honestly really like the Skywarp they did, but the Terradive mold is pretty great.

Exactly. I saw the announcement in the Club magazine and was actually somewhat interested. Especially when we Seibertronians went over the picture of the assembled transformers and speculated on the molds used. It was a set I never collected, and the prospect of a redux appealed to me.

If I were designing it the Termination box set specifically:

Skywarp- ROTF Dirge (one of the better designs; 1 new head sculpt used)

Soundwave- TF2010 Perceptor (2 heads used, an armored carrier with a shoulder cannon)

Mirage- Classics Mirage (great choice, Mkall)

Megaplex -PRID Dreadwing (with new head)

Jhiaxus- ROTF Mindwipe (no changes needed but a redeco; only 3 heads used!)

Attendee Only Figure- Prowl (Classics Mirage) or Thundercracker (ROTF Dirge; this one being my preference)

That leaves one more head to play with...

While I like Obsidian and Strika, I don't feel they really fit into this set, so I'll fill out the souvenir sets with other figures.

Army Builder Pack 3-Deluxe Pack: TF2010 Terradive (new head sculpt; the failed Starscream clones)

Voyager and Deluxe 2-pack: Sandstorm (DoTM Skyhammer) and Ironhide (PRID Sergeant Kup; movie inspired deco)

Deluxe 2-pack: Slicer (PRID Wheeljack) and Hoist (ROTF Brawn)

That took way longer to write up than I thought. The lack of UT molds is really costing us.

If I could use more voyager scaled figures too I'd have more to work with... but ah well.

Just so you guys know, Wings Jhiaxus is based on this fellow:

Robots in Disguise Jhiaxus on TFU.info

For my choices I'd be repeating the most of you and myself, which leads to an underestimated problem: predictability. I'll let you guys think about that ;)

Oh I know he's based on an old figure. An old and rare figure no one seems inclined to part with for fans of mad scientist types. :-(

If I were designing the box set, based on how important Jhiaxus is in apparently causing the entire Machine Wars conflict, I'd make a new toy of him.

And I wouldn't be surprised if FunPub went with a Mindwipe redeco, it's a really nice mold with a menacing head.
