Masterpiece is winning. Nothing creates quite as much furore as the possibility of a new announcement regarding the next Transformers Masterpiece release, be it Takara Tomy or Hasbro. At BotCon last weekend, many attendees at the TFSource stand were saying “I only collect Masterpiece and 3rd Party Transformers now”. The frequency of new Masterpiece threads on forums, the widely ignored release of Transformers GT, the sheer range of opinion on the subject together with the palpable rabid anticipation of collectors at possible Tokyo Toy Show unveilings are all proof of this victory by the most popular Transformers series currently being manufactured.

Yeah. I'm buying every G1 cartoon MP Takara is releasing. It started with MP-10 and hasn't stopped yet. I also snagged Hasbro's Thundercracker and I'm waiting on Takara to do their usual Skywarp offering (please, oh Please !). I've got Soundwave and all of his cassettes and have all 5 of the upcoming G1 MPs from Takara on preorder. This is THE collectors' line and are overall the best representations of these characters we've ever had, and with some of he best, most clever engineering to date (at least IMO).

I can't wait to see what they do next, and I'm really hoping (though doubting) that Big Convoy wins the Fan's Choice vote. A fully articulated, awesome beast-former with a bot mode based on G1 Optimus Prime would just be too epic. The original figure is great, and one of my favorite molds of all time; but a fully articulated beast mode, added detail, and any show accuracy they might add to it would make such an offering irresistible to me.
