Hasbro has been kind enough to send our very own Seibertron an SDCC version of Metroplex, and he's been working non-stop to bring us all more images to complement the massive retail Metroplex galleries! The photoshoot is not fully ready yet, but Ryan has put together a preview of what's to come, including unboxing and the information present on the package.

Take a look at the major features below, and check out some of the images already available! Come back later tonight or early tomorrow morning!for the full gallery, which will include tons of comparison pics to the retail version of Metroplex.

  • Bottom of box has sticker that says "01 of 30 Collect Them All" (see attachments)
  • Instructions are basically the same but new graphics and colors, also include artwork from box.
  • Stickers are identical but have "foil" finish
  • New or expanded bio:

    METROPLEX

For centuries, METROPLEX slumbered, his form melded into the avenues of the great metropolis Iacon. His arsenal, hidden and dormant, lurked behind sealed hatches, the citizens of the vast city never suspecting the devastating power that slept beneath their feet. And yet METROPLEX listened, sensors open across the acres of his body, waiting for the call that would awaken him. Waiting for the order that would summon him forth to battle. Waiting for the last of the Primes.

War raged. Weapons of incredible power cratered and scarred the city around him. Thousands of Cybertronians lay shattered and deactivated in his streets. And still he waited, his Spark yearning for the call that would bring him to the defense of the defenseless millions who still called him home.

Finally, the last Prime came, and METROPLEX awakened. His shadow fell across the burning towers of Iacon. His weaponry revealed and unleashed apocalyptic vengeance on those who had assaulted his city. The DECEPTlCON® horde broke and fled before him. For the call of the Prime had been heard, and the last of the great Titans of CYBERTRON went to war.

:BANG_HEAD: I'm perplexed. I really want to like the add ons and even the fruity pebble colored mini figs. I have trouble justifying the inflated pricing as there is very little chance I will be able to score one from Hasbro. Not to mention the fact that seeing this thing being transformed is not in any way easy and those hip ratchets are pretty tight. Unless those shiny bits are actually metal (Yeah Right!! :HEADHURTS: ) I see the chrome chipping off very easily and there is no way I would buy two of them so shiny Mex can stay in bot mode all the time. >:oP

The price of Takara Tomy's version is inline with these. It's ¥13,248 on Amazon.co.jp, which converts to $133.68. Add international shipping and middle man fees and you end up around $230 for U.S. prices on an imported item.

Conveniently forgetting import charges? The bare TakaraTomy package is 18,753 Yen, which translates to $188. Still more than the SDCC one, but good luck actually finding one!

Dude... nice.

I'f I'm lucky enough to get one on Hasbro Toy Store, I'll pick one up. Most likely though I'll be sticking with Takara's

Well I've got the retail version on pre-order from Amazon, but I'll be online like a vulture waiting for the SDCC version to hit HTS after the 'con. I like symmetry, and the twin guns really speak to me. I'll prob give the mini-figs to my kids.

I could do without the chrome, too, since my G1 MP is the white-legged version and I'd lkethem to match. So really, all I need is just the extra gun for the retail version.

Looks great, but I think I'll save myself a ton of money and get some silver paint for the retail version's face. If I even get him at all, which seems doubtfull now that I've seen how truly massive he really is.

Chrome is way too shiny and makes me nervous when converting. Plus the biggest improvement over the retail version here, in my opinion, is the box.

It's not worth it and thank you for that.

Please stop perpetuating the falsehood that the Takara version has chrome thighs. It does not. Less than a minute of searching Google images will tell you as much. Or, you know, looking here on Seibertron. Personally, I'm not happy about paying the mark up but I prefer the look of the Takara version. The chrome on the legs, although accurate to G1, is a bit much IMO. http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... lex/27533/

Give a figure a second gun and some chrome, call it an exclusive and watch the crazy fans go.

So are the only differences between retail and SDCC Metroplex the chrome bits, the second gun, and the minifigs?

Because if so, it means I won't have to worry about camping HTS to get one like I did with Bruticus last year. (Plus, I don't have any figures in my collection with chrome bits, so he'll stand out a bit too much. Y'know, besides being a two foot tall toy.)

But man, that box is amazing. I kinda wish I could just buy that!

The SDCC version of Metroplex looks nice, but the difference is minimal compared to the Bruticus colors at the convention versus at retail last year. I'll try my hardest to order one of these from HasbroToyShop, but I won't be devistated if I have to settle for the retail release. The extras still do not warrant paying through the nose on the secondary market.

I'm just curious, are both SDCC and TTomy Metroplex chest sticker showed art work of Prime, UM, Arcee, Bumblebee or just plain red sticker?

Right now I'm sort of stuck between SDCC and TTomy. If TTomy Metroplex speaks Japanese, I'm going with SDCC.

Any idea where the 2nd gun could attach? The gun needs an extra peg or something so that it can attach to the vehicle mode. Without an extra peg, I can only figure out how to attach it to the gray handle on one of the black guns, but that blocks the other cannon in his vehicle mode so that doesn't seem ideal.

Funny how the Japanese packaging has "Scramble City" for City Mode. Well played.

That bio is very FOC-ish, but the box art clearly has him alongside G1 dudes. Then again, looking on TFWiki shows a chapter of Autocracy of how Metroplex came to help Optimus Prime upon awakening from a prolonged dormancy, so I guess this could allude to that.
