TF YUKI is back to his old tricks, tweeting us early looks at upcoming Takara Tomy Transformers figures. This morning we get a look at the upcoming Transformers Go! figure Gekiso-Maru, the first figure in Swordbot Shinobi Team. He will be the member that features lights and sound for this team. Check out the images mirrored below.

Part of me is starting to think they should have switched up the designs a bit for these guys and the samurai team. Gekisomaru looks more like an armored fighter than he does a ninja, while the samurai team look more agile with their proportions (including Ganoh).

Back on topic...

I like the look of the ninja team much better than the samurai team. Predatory cat inspired beast alt modes appeal to me so I'll give this one less criticism for the cranium-torso it has.

Oh, come on! Hisashi Yuki just had to position the figure in a way that obscures the character's name spelled in English on the box! :BANG_HEAD:

Well, they dropped the macron for Gaidora's name, so I'm hoping it's the least messy spelling of "Gekisomaru".

I'm a huge fan of the robotic animal alt mode. Especially a Razorclaw/Lio Convoy/Thundertron/ZOIDS-esque lion-thing. But this really looks like it's one giant piece with the beast head and battery pack, then some spindly arms and legs that get swung around for transformation. I'm not overly keen on Kenzan out of the Samurai team. He's my least anticipated, were it not for the lights and sounds, but this guy is making it even harder to like him.

I still think a large part of that is the colours and the faction sign. I'd probably be anticipating a big Decepticon (or Predacon) combiner far more than a 2nd Autobot one. The chubby shark and Phoenix better be really impressive or I'll probably pass on this lot. I don't see them working as nicely in combined modes either, but I have hopes. Despite some negative reviews I'm quite excited to get the Samurai, so the Ninja would be nice to get too.

I was wondering if someone would pick up on the QI thing. And never could get into Monty Python, so not a surprise I missed that one

That and the cost are the reasons why I decided to pass (not to mention that thing they're trying to pass off as a shark!).

As for the figure itself, I think it could have done with a smaller lion head. Even in beast mode, the head looks ridiculously over-sized.

Unless this thing is supposed to combine with other bots and the large head is supposed to be in proportion to the combiner mode?

Haven't been keeping up with the TF Go! line.
