DARN IT!

It's just "Goradora Set". No "Jaki Gattai" or anything like that as it was originally solicited (the main name, that is).

*sigh* This is gonna make things less easy to work with.

So is this color scheme an homage to...Dinoking?

Just grasping at straws. It's at least more like Dinoking than Monstrous, who the molds would suit better, what with the awkward arm-wings. In fact, given how dramatically Go! has parted ways with its American counterpart, a Revenge of Cronos tribute would be thematically appropriate.

Not that our 2 favorite toy companies are actually parting ways as well, but at that scale, Goradora just looks like he doesn't deserve to know the Samurai or Shinobi team's names, doesn't he?

Of course, Bandai could sue Takara for trying that, but Hasbro could probably pull it off, what with owning the GoBots characters.

It's a reference to each of the larger Predacon toys.
  • Dorara - Hun-Gurrr redeco, is based on Dragotron
  • Barara - Windrazor redeco, is based on Bakudora
  • Garara - Twinstrike redeco, is based on Gaidora
  • Jurara - Rippersnapper redeco, is based on Judora
  • Burara - Blight redeco, is based on Budora
The homage is in the individual members, rather than the combined form.

I have to say it: Abominus is the WORST combiner I've ever had. He's rather flimsy when put together, and if you look at the picture, you can see that his legs cannot even straighten out properly.

HasTak REALLY should have made Hun-gurr bigger, to fix some of these issues, but as it stands, this set felt incredibly CHEAP and FLIMSY to me.

You guys can go ahead and import the Takara version, or even look for the Target sets, but you're in for some disappointment... :BANG_HEAD:

Given that these are in the Cyberverse Commander and Legion classes (or whatever they classify the small ones at these days) and considering that I managed to suffer through the A/E/C series gestalts, some of which were horrid, my expectations aren't all that high to begin with. You can tell just by looking at what you have to work with for connections that it's a "snap and display" figure only. It's pure novelty not, functionality, at least for this size range. They would have had to given connector accessories like what they have for the Micromaster Combiners to make this thing truly functional.

This is not, however, going to make me shy away from buying whichever version I can lay my hands on first. I want this, flimsy or not. What irks me is that the U.S. versions will, as always, look like ass compared to the Asian releases. The color schemes are horrid compared to it's over-seas counterpart but since I dig the animal modes I'm willing to make the trade off.

I like the way you think - connector pieces would have done wonders. But, as you currently do NOT own this set (in any incarnation), I hate to point out the word "ignorance". With all due respect, you'll see what I mean about Abominus once you waste your money on him!

But let's put aside the awful gestalt mode for a moment: the individual figures aren't really good at all. Twin-strike is okay, and I've had the most time with him... but then there's Rippersnapper. He's atrocious. His head is skinny like a small house-cat, and the two halves have difficulty snapping together and staying closed. Overall, as with all legion sizes, the figures do feel kind of cheap and fragile.

I bought something like 4 Twinstrikes in anticipation of this set. Then I ordered 2 sets of the missing limbs from HTS.com... but even with my unbridled enthusiasm, my favoritism toward these characters above all others, and generally low expectations for Hasbro.... even still, I was sorely diappointed. The pictures (again) look much better than your finished, final product before you.

Just trying to warn some of you, who may still be looking for limbs. Hasbro botched up the distribution on this guy (as two arms and a leg will probably never make it to retail as stand-alone items), and they made no mention of combination or gestalt in their Twinstrike and Hun-gurr instructions. It's hard for me to say, with any confidence, that the Abominus figure wasn't one giant mistake of a project. This is just NOT the way you sell a combiner.

One has to wonder if someone as Hasbro had the intention of seeing combiners fail and purposefully sabotaged the development and distribution.
:-?

Eeeewwwwww.....

For once it's not Hasbro who picks the ugliest color scheme. Now Japan knows how we felt here in the US when we got "Fruiticus"

The difference here being that, unlike G2 Bruticus, this isn't colored like Abominus because it's not supposed to be Abominus. It's a completely separate character.

Actually, his point still stands, as he was referring to the specific color swab, not how accurate-to-cartoon these figures are. I doubt he feels better knowing Takara chose these same colors for the cartoon characters.

Only disappointment I feel is that the Tomy version has no weapons.

Yeah, I think he looks better without them since the weapons look kinda sloppily tacked on in their beast modes, and my Target version of Abominus is starting to show stress marks from all the weapon holding he's been doing.

Plus, Goradora is kind of a brawler in the cartoon anyway, using brawler-style fighting moves that don't require weapons anyway.

Being a brawler =/= being competent. ;) :P

This makes me want to do the gallery for this set and the Target Abominus set. I need to have a massive Cyberverse gallery catch up week.

@ Saber

So the weapons are no great loss then? If stress marks are the case, then maybe you are right. I was kind of surprise that he actually wields a weapon until I did a comparison check with Ryan's collection. I thought at first that my :BANG_HEAD: Goradora was missing a part.

Still, when Tomy releases their "weapon" it always has a few bells and whistles.

I forgot the Terrorcons even came with weapons. I didn't like how they looked with them, so I chucked the weapons away and haven't regretted it since.

No great loss indeed. Well intended, you can make a convincing double axe with the 5 pieces (using an unofficial configuration), but I have some criticisms:

1) Twinstrike's weapon, being a wave 1 figure, does not match in color with the rest of the team's weapons. His is a dull grey color instead of the silver used for the rest of the team.
2) Twinstrike's hammer also seems to have a too shallow hole on the top, making it impossible to connect anything. Blight's hammer has no such problem.
3) The bows used by Rippersnapper and Windrazor have developed minor stress marks in the holes on the side.

btw how is Goradora's right hand portrayed as? simply as Barara's/Windrazor's beak, or the head plus the arms a la Garara/Twinstrike?

I really like this set and I definitely prefer the Takara colour scheme.

I hated the clear plastic on the Hasbro version but I still bought it for my son. However within days Blight's head had snapped off at the pin, leaving my son absolutely gutted.

Based on the screen shot, the former.
