Is G1 Soundwave outdated?

I've seen the re-deco of Soundwave (Linkin Park version) and I am wondering, isn't the mold outdated? I find it hard to believe that Hasbro is still using the same mold from 80s(70s) when there are advanced engineering on toys nowadays.

ALL G1 molds are outdated by today's standards. Soundwave, Blaster and their cassettes more so since they represent outdated devices. But there is still a market for such devices and toys based on them, that's why we have reissues ;)
Besides, Soundwave is the iconic Transformers character next to Optimus Prime and Megatron, thanks to his voice and his special talent. Who else can store cassettes in his chest aside from Blaster?

I get the feeling that TC worded his topic badly. I think he's asking whether or not it's actually the same physical mold as back in the day.

I would say it's more than likely that, given the sheer amount of use the G1 Soundwave mold has seen over it's lifetime, it's probably been rebuilt a time or two.

The alt mode is. I don't think kids today know what a tape recorder is.

The toy is not. It's a classic. It's retro. It's bad-ass.

As for the mold, I prefer the original with the individual button cutouts.

I've been saying it's outdated ever since I joined this site. It's over 30 years old, of course it's outdated.

I hate it when people say you can't improve on the G1 Soundwave mold, just because you thought it was amazing when you were a little kid doesn't mean it's a fact. I mean I thought the Jurassic Park 2 T-Rex was the greatest toy of all time while growing up, but I'm pretty sure it can be improved and Revoltech proved that already.

They should have used the MP mold for this, or the Music Label version, with an SD carrying albums of Linkin Park, but as it stands it just sucks.

G1 is completely outdated and everyone in this thread knows it. I love G1, but that doesn't change the facts.

It's outdated, has been for years, but retro is cool.

As the others have said, if you want cutting edge, then you're looking at Masterpiece Soundwave, which will be out in most places in the world by November.

However reissues have nothing to do with things being cutting edge. Technically, yes there are better engineered figures, however the whole point of re-issues is not only nostalgia but because the toys themselves, tend to have a timeless style to them.

You could make the same argument about Hot Wheels toys for example. The reason they keep selling though is for that very reason - they're timeless.
