What does it take to make Constuct-Bots look like something?

Well, an extra pair of arms helps a lot.

My wife had griped that the sets I had bought didn't 'look like anything', at least, Ironhide didn't - the jets were less so an issue.

I got an extra Ironhide the other day (the first one got kitted out with extra weapons and put on my classics shelf), and started tinkering with the parts I had left over after mashing up Soundwave and Starscream, initially trying to build a Rodimus, and then just trying to build something that could pass for a normal Transformer. I think I got pretty close. The big difference I'm wanting to show off here comes from filling in the big empty space in the 'back' which is now the front. That was largely achieved by using Starscream's arms as kibble.

Included are pieces from Ironhide, Starscream, and Soundwave, though you should be able to get by with less if you don't care about the colors. No partsforming is involved, outside of removing the gun from between the front halves of the car (it is actually the linchpin that holds it all together) - so it actually has a better transformation than some normal Transformers. I really want to get Blitzwing, Megatron & Optimus; I love these sets.

Caveats: The front wheels do scrape against the fenders, and I actually replaced the armor on his upper arms after taking these pics, in order to improve his articulation at the elbow. I also made some tweaks to his suspension, and added some guns from a KO to hide the second pair of fists.

I used some Lego peices and some Optimus parts for my own Ironhide. Appart the weapons, no partforimus either.

I'd like to make a Constructbot with a different transformation scheme, but the way they are designed wont allow it.

Those tires are sweet - reminds me of some micromasters I had back in the day. Did standard Lego pegs fit into the 5mm holes? Or did you have to permanently mod something?

I got Contruct-Bot Predaking last night and discovered he looks great with TFA Swoop's flail, but haven't had any brilliant ideas for changes, yet. As a warning - mine is not orange and black, it's orange and dark blue, but not the same shade of blue as Soundwave, so mixing parts is going to be tricky.

The pegs fit perfectly. Remember that Lego is from Danemark. Danemark is in Europe. The European standard is metric. So, everything's good!

Hmm... then Predaking may spend the weekend rummaging through our tubs of Legos for more options...

Thanks for the info!
