How fragile is BW Transmetals Megatron?

I received one in a trade but I've heard he has really weak plastic and is prone to breaking. I want to transform him but I don't want to break him.
Should I leave him alone or is transforming him a couple times ok?

My dragon megatron has been transformed over 40 times, and except a little chrome wear, there is nothing wrong with him. beast wars toys were built well, have fun...

Weather, condition of the item and bad luck are factors you have to consider.

I own a 2002 Godginrai by Takara (Made in Japan). Left him in Godginrai form for quite sometime. When I tried transforming the cab portion to "Ginrai", well lo and behold, the leg and feet parts shattered. My room btw is air conditioned.

So its your call Phantron (unless you have a back up figure.)

I've owned two TM Megatrons. Both broke at the waist after several transformations.

Years later, I managed to repair both as best I could using a very powerful Krazy Glue I had bought from Target.

But, alas, turns out the repairs weren't meant to last, as recent years had me attempting to (very carefully) transform one of my Megatrons for a display I was putting together, and it snapped at the waist once again just as it had all those years ago. Out of fear of re-breaking my other one too, I simply left him untransformed for the display and haven't touched it since.

Wrong toy.

Though, I have had breakage on that toy too. One of his wings broke after a few years of rough play. Tried to fix it with super glue, but the fix didn't last. Wound up having to buy a bootleg version of the figure and doing a parts-swap of the between the wings of the official toy and those of the knockoff to fix it. Though, even though the wings came from a bootleg, I think they look nice and a bit more show-accurate since the KO's wings are solid golden-orange instead of golden-yellow fading to non-show-accurate purple.

Even though mine was looked after and rarely transformed, when I finally got the space to display my TF's, transforming him resulted in one of the shoulder covers breaking. An all too common problem.

Sad thing for us vintage collectors. Not being able to transform transforming toys. :BANG_HEAD:

Get the Japanese Metals version. It has more show accurate colors for those components (black instead of brown) and doesn't suffer from the fragility of its US counterpart.

This is the one you want. Currently on ebay his price usually ranges from $60US~$90US.

Sadly, Transmetal Megatron is a debatable case of the dreaded Gold Plastic Syndrome. Debatable, in that the plastic isn't actually the hallmark gold plastic, but it's still pretty fragile nonetheless. The design of the waist ratchet doesn't help matters either.
The Japanese version uses a different color plastic which seems sturdier, as no reports of that one breaking in the same places are known.

Wow! this is good to know. I remember having him as a kid and play with it quite often but nothing broke at all. I no longer own him and thought about reacquiring one. Very good to know.

The waist is broken on mine. He's displayed in robot mode, and I dare not play with him again. :(

Mine only had a problem with his tail cutlass, otherwise it sets on a shelf with my other Megatron's in robot mode. I try not to transform my toys more than I have to. I prefer to keep the joints tight for that reason and everything in top shape.

have owned one since it came out and its only had minor chrome ware on the feet -it depends on how much it was played with -i loved that toy-but it has one significant flaw that is easy to fix -its waite has a gear and some plactic parts in it that after a few dozen transforms may come loose -it did with mine after a while i fixed it though with a screw driver and this was about around the time it came out when i was a kid---i always have a screwdriver its just something i do

I remember getting one for Christmas a few years ago. I made the foolish mistake of transforming him once and his head snapped off. Sad times... :-(
