Is there something currently going on with eBay?

First off to you mods if this thread is in the wrong forum please move it by all means. Since yesterday I have been trying to buy a particular TF and was having trouble. I contacted the seller explaining that every time I would click "buy it now" I was then taken to the..."You're almost done! Until you complete checkout, another eBay user may buy this item."...as opposed to the "commit to buy" page.

I asked the seller if they had the item set up this way because I've seen this in the past...but not often. The seller claimed that the item was not set for immediate payment. :-? So my other problem was my finances and figuring my being able to buy and pay for this item ASAP. I chose to wait until morning and if the item was sold so be it. The item had not been sold but I was still getting the same issue as before. Needless to say I was able to find the financial means to pay for the item...thank goodness for siblings.

So normally after buying the item (as most of you know) I still have that period on actually paying. And if the seller states that payment is due 3,4,5 days after auction I still have that time until payment is due. This morning I tried to "buy it now" on several buyers on my Watch List and all of them to me to the "Your almost done..." page.

So I called eBay hoping it was just something technical on my end and it wasn't. The rep I spoke to did say the eBay may have issued some sort of update to the system due to any fraudulent activity. So maybe that somehow triggered every seller's item to do this towards the buyer...I don't know.

What I do know is that I've established myself with quite a few sellers as a top notch buyer. So when I need a few more days extra to pay they know I'm good for it. Now if this is how things are gonna be with eBay that just sux ass! :-x

So am I the only one seeing this? Can anyone else test what I'm pining about out? I appreciate anyone that looks into this and look forward to any comments. :VEHI:

Sounds like a good change to me. When I sell on eBay, I want to be paid right away. If the buyer isn't going to be able to pay what they bid, I don't want to wait 3-5 days to find that out. If you don't have the money to pay for the item, you shouldn't bid on it. That's just my opinion.

You're right, I get it you should get your :ic$: with out having to wait. But if a lot of these sellers allow payment within a said period and eBay does this...then what the hell? I'm sure a few buyers can appreciate that. I admit that most of my rant was my venting but that's just how I see it. But hey I can deal and adjust like everything else life hurls at me. :VEHI:

Fantastic, that was always the most annoying thing on ebay, sitting there and waiting for the customer to finally pay the item.

Sorry, but when you have no money you have no business of "buying" something on ebay.

I purchased a few things on eBay in the last week, and this also happened to me. I didn't even think about it, I just paid, but now that you mention it, every transaction required me to pay immediately. I do agree that if you buy something you should try to pay ASAP, but if the seller specifies that you're not required to pay immediately, then it's acceptable to take advantage of the window provided.

I'm not sure I'm getting this right, since I've never had to deal with EBay (thank goodness), but long story short they're taking away the option of "putting an item on layaway" or "get it now, pay later"?

I NEVER have to pay for my items upfront....ebay actually allows me to get the item first then pay within 11 days. now my feedback score as a buyer is 36,157 with nothing less than 100% feed back score ever. but yes ebay has made some policy changes to protect big buyers like me and protects the seller from people that think they are entitled, and that the world should way for them so they can manipulate the buying process to their needs. well a-holes listen up, when you go to the store (target, walmart etc.) you have to pay right away, why should online be any different.

Because at Target and Walmart and such stores you get your item as soon as you pay for it. It's not mailed to you 2-3 days later and get it in the mail 2 weeks later. That's why.

well I had typed up this big comparison but I didn't feel you were worth the effort.... wish I had your point of view because ignorance is bliss.

So because I have a different opinion than you, I am ignorant? You're the blissful one, my friend. :) In the end, I am not in charge of eBay, and I don't know you so technically it's possible, but I highly doubt you are either. So what we think has no bearing on eBay policy. Regardless, good to know how you approach simple debates, so I can avoid discussions with you in the future, because, to paraphrase you, I don't feel you're worth the effort due to your ignorance of the fact that just because someone else has a different opinion than you doesn't make that person wrong. It's an opinion.

There's no need for hostility like this, you were doing a good job of getting your point across without it.

Wait what? If you buy from me I would have to send you my item and wait 11 days for you to pay me? seriously?? plz let me know your eBay name so I would never sell to you by accident. How is that even fair to the seller? Didn't know eBay even allow such things.

Ditto. When I sell on eBay, I don't ship until I get paid.
