REPURPOSING - What figures fill that gap in your collection?

Like many a fan and collector of Transformers, one may strive for a near perfect line-up on their shelf or display stand, offering a figure which is, or close to, the character they want it to represent.

When a character you really want fails to meet expectations or it still hasnt been made by Takara, Hasbro or a 3rd Party, would you consider taking a figure from a current or past line and repurposing them into that missing character, maybe permanently or as a place holder until a better one comes along?

Lets see who you are using as a different character!

All seasons, lines, years, past and present are fair game. ;)

aside from characters from other lines who I'm just using as their Classics/G1 selves, I've got a few, but mostly I repurpose bots into new made-up characters. After reading MTMTE #12 again last night though, I'm using Prime Cyberverse Rot Gut as Blip, especially since he was one of Hun-Grr's guys and Nautilator mistook him for Blot.

I'm still using energon Strongarm as Ironfist (until the third party one comes out)

I also use GDO brawl as Fulcrum from MTMTE.

I did a hardcore kitbash/repaint of a Tansmetal Airazor into a Deluxe class Beast Wars Terrorsaur that turned out pretty decent. He doesn't transform, but he looks awesome on the shelf standing next to Waspinator and the rest of the Preds. Much better than his Basic sized original version did anyway.

I used to call BM Mega Cheetor "Catilla" but then I stopped hating on Catilla so much.

Yikes. Yeah, that's kinda brutal man. I think you owe Catilla an apology :P.

I like your Wingspan and Pounce ideas! I need a Divebomb even more now!

Well... I used to have my Fall of Cybertron Combaticons and Kickback as the Generation One characters, but after some rearranging due to new shelves, I decided to make a separate, Fall of Cybertron-themed shelf (with my Grimlock being a complete badass). As for what I have repurposed, I've got Fall of Cybertron Shockwave and Ultra Magnus on my Classics shelf.

I also plan to repurpose Revenge of the Fallen Bludgeon as the Generation One character in the near future.

For the longest time, my Cybertron Swerve was my Windcharger. But I'm tempted to try to get that not released in the US Windcharger, so maybe not for much longer...

I've done this with only 1 figure, ever. I use RiD Omega Prime (with the blue chest piece folded down so the cab windshield is visible) as my comic Powermaster Optimus Prime to stand next to my G1 Scorponok, because this way they're somewhat in scale. The regular PMOP (which I also have) is just too small. Once I get my BotCon Ginrai, I'm probably gonna get a Xovergen Trailerforce for him, (hopefully Xovergen will make a redeco, but I doubt it) and then that will count as my G1 Powermaster Optimus Prime.

Considering the alt mode, weapons and color scheme, I always thought that's what this figure was intended for all along, seeing as there's no Bludgeon in the movies. (I'm not sure about the supporting comics for the movie.)

Yeah, there's some funky history about the creation of that figure, going back as far as the Energon and Cybertron lines (meaning its rooted began as a conceptual Unicron Trilogy toy) and coming back around the 2008 Universe line, but it was ROTF that gave life to him and some Movieverse fiction did establish him as a Movieverse character.

He's appeared in the following Moviverse stories:

The Cyber Missions web cartoon

The Titan Magazines UK ROTF comics (which are part of a separate timeline from the American Movieverse timeline)

Unite for the Universe manga

IDW Rising Storm comics (prequel to DOTM)

Though, years later, things would finally come full circle when the Transformers Legends mobile game officially repurposed the ROTF design (but with an IDW Bludgeon head) for G1 Bludgeon:

Yup, the ROTF Bludgeon-design seems to have been officially repurposed as G1 Bludgeon. So too in my collection (with the Headrobots upgrade).

I sold off my Animated & Unicron Trilogy figures long ago. I was a fan of TFA cartoon, but not the figures, and I was a fan of the Unicron Trilogy toys, but not the cartoon. To simplify my collection and fight purchase impulses, I've closed off those molds from my collection, even as stand-ins. Outside of Classics (including WFC/FOC) mainline-type figures, I shoehorn Movie & Prime into my Classics collection.

I tend to use Movie-verse figures that have repaints, since mold duplication helps the movie-styling seem less out of place. So, Lockdown/Axor/Circuit, Bludgeon/Banzaitron, DOTM Space Case/TFCC Depthcharge, etc. Lugnut is a notable exception, but he was intended for Classics all along from what I understand.

As far as Prime, I've been using BH Smokescreen (until I can find a reasonably priced Henkei version), GDO Cliffjumper, TFSS 1.0 Slipstream, a couple Sharkticon Megatrons (the brutes complement my UT Sharkie grunts), and a dozen PRID Vehicons as generic decepticon soldiers. I look forward to adding TFCC Protoform X/Transmutate, TFSS 2.0 Barricade, and Cloud Brawn to this list. If something doesn't give, and soon, I'll probably pick up BH Shockwave as well, since the line is on clearance at Target right now.

Oh, almost forgot - and this is a true filling of the gap - I'm going to use Predacons Rising Darksteel as Classics Deathsaurus, pending the free reprolabels set & ZF head upgrade. Can't wait!

was gutted to see Peaugh's review of Dark Steel the day after that offer on Reprolabels closed. Didn't see or hear about it anywhere else. Looks like a good set.

I also only heard of it through Peaugh, and only on Friday, the last day of the promo... it was a whirlwind of activity, let me tell you.

I got in on it first day, but then I'm a member of the Reprolabels Facebook page and have been stalking them daily waiting for it to pop up since they first announced the set weeks ago.

Marvel Transformers Crossovers Wolverine!

This sealed piece of awesomeness is being dragged back from the past, kicking and screaming to the present repurposed as my Classics Outback!

I don't get how he's Outback, but hell yeah Wolverine should be in Transformers! He'd probably be a Wrecker, he's on plenty of other teams.

wait..is he Outback because of that cartoon that gave him an Oz accent? (and...of course, Hugh Jackman)

edit: Loving that Ghost Rider!

Totally agree with PCC Leadfoot as Sureshot.

I used Energon Divebomb as Banzai-tron and am getting him repainted as such.

Bought a custom Hot Rod which was a repaint of Cybertron Clocker though Cybertron Swerve reminds me of G2 comic Hot Rod.

Classics Tankor/Octane is his WFC/Cybertronian self since the Ironhide miniseries depicted him in Cybertron's past using his classics tanker mode.

G2 Aquafend as Joyride.

Robotmasters Wingstun as G1 Pre-Beast Waspinator but retaining the name Wingstun.

Cybertron Sideways is G2 Skyjack's Cybertronian mode. I could see them being the same character given Sideway's multiversal status and his dual Autobot/Decepticon allegiance ties in with Skyjack's spy function.
