I find it odd that they named him "Convoy" and not "Optimus Prime" like in recent years. We really need a Japanese speaker here...

Looks like the toy's name is "Convoy (Anniversary Clear Ver.)", with the "Mystery" part being the name of the campaign event.

It's "the mystery of convoy", if you will.

Yeah, "Convoy (Anniversary Clear Ver.) no Nazo!"

I wonder if it has anything to do with the similarly-titled video game. :-?

Well Convoy was presented as disembodied floating grey head that flashed seizure inducing colors.

Looks like he stepped on a nail or something.

I always hated the name Convoy. It's bad enough for a truck, but even worse for a lion.

Trying to figure out what deal with that metal pin in his foot is, but based on the very loose translation made by Google Translate, that thing on his foot seems to be part of this campaign event.

Like, I think it's a way to tell if a person who got this toy is some kind of winner or something. Like, the person who gets the figure with the pin in its foot is the big winner of something or whatnot.

Kinda like those soda bottle contest with the inside of the bottle caps saying if one's a winner or not.

That's my guess, at least. For all we know, it could be something else entirely. Like, "remove the pin to blow up the world!" or something. :P

Maybe.

But a magnet for what, we wonder? :-?

Could this figure be for standing on something much larger, and which requires it to be magnetized to it?

So many questions.

Doesn't the giant stomp and chomp Grimlock have a feature that requires magnets to activate it's different sounds? Maybe this will activate new sounds that normal Autobots and Decepticons don't, kinda like Gabutrya and the zyudenchi perhaps.

A lot of clues, besides it says:

Let's go convoy, it has been produced to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Transformers [Anniversary Clear Ver.]!
Image
Get fast to the ground of "team Mach" It's a Super GT venue familiar planned!
May 3, at the kids walk event for the Super GT, which will be held at Fuji Speedway on the 4th
At the top of team Mach.
Let's go to see the "Mach vehicle inspection with Transformers 30th" Golden Week!

In addition, the forthcoming next month, finally "Transformers Celebration 2014"
Additional plans on being able to watch the "Movie advanced series", such as up-to-date information and more will be also revealed!
Also Convoy [Anniversary Clear Ver.], you will have a chance to get him if you assist the event at...
Midnight on Friday, May 16, at Toys 'R' Us, Babies R Us Ikebukuro Sunshine City store!

And this convoy is not only a generic EZ Collection [Anniversary Clear Ver.] Hatada.
Generic-looking at first sight, but there is a secret in this convoy . . .
guessing the answer on his foot's pin ! ?
Image
"The Mystery of Convoy's modern rise" indeed. Perhaps, will this mystery be revealed at Tokiakasa?
Stay tunned!

Not a stupid question at all. I thought some of his proportions were slightly different but I realized it was a trick of the eye. The translucent plastic and change of color in general creates a bit of an optical illusion. Kind of makes my brain go "WTF?" after having been used to seeing him in only one other basic color scheme.

Now as for this whole "gimmick" thing... y'all have fun figuring that out or making whatever goofy guesses about it. I think everyone should start thinking along the lines of Bakugan for an answer though. That's where I'd place my bets. Obviously it's not spring loaded and wont transform by itself when placed on some metal card or plate but maybe whatever he has to come into contact with does have that gimmick.

Now that I look at it again, he looks like a clear version of the deco of Cybertron Leader class Galaxy Force Optimus Prime.

I'll pick one up if they're cheap, but if this ends up being another Safety Prime availability wise, then no thanks.

Also, the pin is not the question, but the answer. The pin is the key. All hail pin.

I wonder if is magnetic or just metallic pin :-?

The AoE Power Attackers and One-Steps seem to have them as well.

Apparently the pin is for an as of yet not released feature for the AOE mobile app.

Really? I thought the pins were used to activate features on the giant "Stomp and Chomp" Grimlock that's coming out later this summer.
