The culture of the characters? The culture of the characters is Cybertronian. Drift has no heritage or culture in Japan aside from the fact that he takes a liking to the culture. That's like saying an American person obsessed with Japanese culture is only ever allowed to wear clothes produced in Japan. That's the stupidest thing ever.

What I meant is that why not give him "matching" car mode. How about Nissan GT-R It's almost like creating Dino with Lamborghini mode and give him Russian accent.

That actually brings up a very good question. If Drift is such a Japanophile that he acts Japanese then isn't he more likely to choose a Japanese car as his alt mode over something else? A guy that's absorbing that much of their culture would certainly see Japanese cars as superior, especially when they're just taking on the appearance, not the performance of the car. Seems like a major disconnect in his character.

Yeah, but did any high-end Japanese cars get offered to the movie crew and beat out the nicer European cars? I'm guessing 'no', and at that point, that's really all that matters to them

But I definitely agree with both opinions, it was sloppy character building

It all comes down to the licensing agreement. These movies generate a lot of exposure, so car companies will be climbing over each other to get their cars featured.

Seibertronian Bronzewolf has shared another image from Michael Bay's Instagram account (or his good marketing team, at least) showing what looks to be a set image from the Detroit location of Transformers: The Last Knight, and posters of OPtimus Prime and Bumblebee - it looks like the status quo is still one where Cybertronians are not exactly everyone's favourite thing. Well props for the movie not %100 hitting the retcon button. Maybe there'll be some continuity bridging that happens exclusively in non-cannon promotional material. Like all of the other movies.

I think it's to late for trying estabilishing something "for certain". Bayverse timeline is already illogical in too many places.

This is very true plus till the movie comes out we won't know what needs explaining from AoE.

Though in my opinion the area where most questions will be centred on is the dinobots, as I'm where are they now.
