ABS CBN Interactive has an article up on the Rating of the Transformers Movie in the Philippines, that opened its door on June 28th. As in other countries, according to the movie news item, it was supposed to be released with a PG-13 rating. Instead it was given the all ages rating of "General Patronage" or GP, after the offensive word of "Masterbation" was deleted from the movie. When the word was deleted, the movie was reviewed again by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and was given the rating it now has.

We sat next to two children at a screening yesterday (theatre was packed!) and one of them asked thir dad "What is masturbation?"
I can't tell if our section was laughing at the question or the movie...

So they will allow people getting impaled and blown up but they cant say masterbation? They can say **** and flip cops off but no "M" word? And I thought the people here were uptight.

So let me see if I got this right. It's because of that word, and not the fact that giant f*$king robots are kicking the crap out of each other in the last twenty five minutes of the movie, that it got a PG-13?

I wonder who said "masterbation" in the movie? I've watched the version minus the M word.

Censorship art in mysterious way... :-P But yeah, I agree with you. I still can fathom how does some people/contries mora codes are supposed to work.

US TV is a similar example: sex or erostim is a big, fat HELL NO yet we see plenty of violent and disgusting stuff on the small screen.

I am not being pro-censorship (though I support moderation) or I am a religious moralist (HA! I'm far away from being that), I am just pointing out a double standar that is occuring on TV rating today. Guess I should be happy the violence was not removed and replace with easter bunnies dancing like idiots the whole time.

Sam's mom! The version I saw had that line. It was the part after the lights were shut off Sam's parents were heading to his room and saw the light beneath the door.

Seeing as though I'm from the Philippines....

Wowie! I think that scene wasn't all THAT inappropriate.

Is the movie doing good there?

It was actually even more hilarious when they deleted the word 'masturbating' from the movie. In that edited version, Sam's mom repeated asking "Were you..." twice, so it makes it hard for minors to understand what's she's implying but obvious enough for grown-ups to know what it is(after the happy time comment). I didn't notice that edit, BTW, we had some awesome people in the censorship department that the scene actually appeared flawless.

Maybe just to get a PG rating for this forum, rather than R-18.

Like spelling F*@^, instead of ****.

Hehe

Ooops SORRY. I forgot the rules about foul language.

Good thing the word was replaced with asterisks.

:) SORRY :)
